OOC: This thread is for Kiki and Paul's battle, and it occurs second in roleplay time. Kiki should post first. She also has the first move. IC: After the first battle, Principal Sash stepped onto the field once again. "Thank you, Sawyer and Nana," she said into the microphone. "Our second battle of the day will be Kiki from Johto and Paul from Sinnoh!" Paul had won the previous tournament, so it would be interesting to see how he would fare today. She walked back to her seat to get a good view of the action.

Kiki had a hop in her step as she entered the battle area. She was in the semester tournament again, and she was excited about it. She had never won yet, but she knew she had it in her. Plus, she heard she was battling Paul. She was not sure what she thought about him yet. As long as Alice and Thorn liked each other, though, they had to be on civil grounds. Perhaps if she put up a good fight today, he would have enough respect for her to let their Pokemon be together. Either way, she had to win this. "Let's go, Penelope!" She tossed a Pokeball in the air, and her Seel appeared. She knew she could count on her tough little water type.

Paul entered the battle area once more. It seemed like only a week ago he had come here for the previous tournament. He had been successful then, so he felt confident he would be successful this time as well. Still, his point was not really to win; his main focus during the tournament was to get stronger from it. Apparently, he was battling Kiki. He had never battled her before. This should be interesting. He hoped she was competent, though something about her told him she was and that he would be wise not to underestimate her. He saw her let out her Seel. That was an interesting choice, considering how slow it would be on land. "Cobra, stand by for battle!" he said as he tossed the Axew's Pokeball. He looked at Kiki and her Seel, waiting for her first move.

Kiki's eyes were on Paul as he arrived. She could not read his expression, but it appeared the same as always. She wished she could see inside his head so that she could figure him out. That was for another day, though. Right now, he was someone she had to beat. "Good luck," she said in an attempt to be friends. Now it was time to get down to business. The Axew was cute, but he was also a dragon type. She knew just the move to use against him. "Penelope, let's start off with Icy Wind!" She was glad she already knew an ice type move.
Penelope had a determined look on her face as she stared down the Axew. She was not an ice type yet, but she still did not like dragon types. <I'm going to squash you, little green thing!> It did not matter if she was on the land; she could still beat him easily. At her trainers command, she sucked in a sharp breath, blowing it out in an icy wind that would consume the Axew.

Icy Wind? The Seel was a water type that evolved into an ice type, but it apparently already knew an ice move. His Axew, a dragon type, was weak against ice moves. There was not much of a chance of him dodging that attack, so Paul allowed him to take it. It was important to see how strong the Seel was, anyways. Plus, taking moves like that would make his Pokemon stronger. The move seemed to do damage, but it was not too bad. "Use Leer and Dual Chop!" He wondered if the Seel would be able to dodge that.
Cobra took a battle stance and braced himself as the Icy Wind came for him. That wind was cold, but he was not going to be put down too easily. He was going to win this. He gave the Seel a menacing leer before charging forward. He planned to give her two brutal strikes. <Good luck swashing me when you're chopped into pieces!> he said as he moved to strike. Kiki was pleased that the attack had worked well. That did not mean she was going to win this, though. Both Paul and his Axew appeared pretty tough. She was going to have to work hard to advance to the next level of the tournament. She knew her Seel was not great at dodging, so she quickly thought of a counterattack as soon as Paul gave his orders. "Penelope, Growl and use Headbutt!" If she had to get hit, she might as well make the most of it.
Penelope smirked as she watched her Icy Wind work. Ice was so cool. She could not wait to evolve! She scoffed at the Axew's remark. <Just wait, little one.> She would show him! She liked her trainer's plan, and she was quick to implement it. As soon as she saw her opponent coming toward her, she let out a low Growl. She winced as she took the attack, but as soon as it was over, she aimed to Headbutt the Axew back to his side of the field.

Paul had to admit that that was a good move on Kiki's part. Cobra was unable to dodge that quick, so he got hit. It was not as bad as the Icy Wind, though. Despite getting hit twice, he still had confidence in his strength and ability. He quickly thought about his strategy. "Leer once again and Dragon Rage!" he instructed his Axew. Since he would not have to have contact to attack this time, he would be able to dodge if needed. He tried to think about what to do about that Icy Wind attack. An idea came that he thought might work.
Cobra shivered at the growl, but he still stood his ground. Whoa, he thought as he was struck with Headbutt and landed on his back on the other side of the field. It seemed to come out of nowhere. He didn't even have a chance to dodge. Leaping back onto his feet, he fiercely leered at the Seel. He was not giving up. He thought back to her words. Little one!? He kept his fierce look as he allowed his rage to boil. <I may be little, but I'm strong!> he called to her. <Stronger than you! Now, feel my wrath!> He sent forth a shock wave of pure rage.

Kiki noted the damage that was down by her Seel's various attacks. Icy Wind was obviously the strongest. It was hard to dodge, so if it was best to use that if at all possible. The Axew seemed to have various strong moves. Once again, he was too fast for her Pokemon to dodge. "You're doing good, Penelope. Now use Growl and Icy Wind." That should be an excellent combination.
Penelope did not like this little dragon. He thought he was tough, but she could see his weak points. He needed to evolve until he was really powerful. Once she evolved, she would still be able to defeat him, though. She tried to move out of the way of the Dragon Rage, but it was no use. She growled as she was pushed back on the field. <You will pay for that! Taste my frozen fury!> It was a bit cheesy, but he would get the point. She sucked in a sharp breath and let it out as an Icy Wind.

Icy Wind again. It was time to do something about that. It was a hard move to dodge, but that did not mean he could not avoid at least some of it. "Leer and jump up and use Dragon Rage!" he told his Axew. He figured Cobra would be able to take on whatever part of the Icy Wind he would not be able to avoid. The Dragon Rage, as it was not a contact move, would be able to push away some of the attack as well.
Cobra did not like that growl, so he sent a leer back at the Seel like his trainer told him. He was not going to let that growl shake him up; he was determined to face it with strength. He allowed his rage to build up once more as he stared at her. Not that Icy Wind again! He did his best to jump up above it and sent forth his Dragon Rage, though he did get hit by the move partially.

Kiki was actually impressed with Paul's quick thinking. It was good he relied on strategy and not pure power to win. She planned on doing the same. Though it seemed impossible for the Axew to dodge all of Icy Wind, she still wanted to figure out a way to pack the most punch with the attack. She decided on the only thing she could think of in the seconds she had. "Growl and Icy Wind again, but this time, aim it everywhere on the field." If she got lucky, the attack would coat the field with ice and snow.
Penelope watched in dismay as her attack was only partially effective. Oh well. She would get him good next time. She was in no position to dodge the next Dragon Rage, but at least her Growl had limited its effects. She was still ready to go strong! She Growled again, since this was her only real means of defense. Then she blasted another Icy Wind, this time moving up and down, left and right, and even hitting the ground.

This sounded familiar. Paul needed to move fast in order to make the most of the field before it became slippery. "Run straight and use Leer and Assurance at the same time!" he said right as the Seel began her attack. His Axew may still hit some slippery snow and ice, but it would not be as bad as when the attack would be over. He was a bit impressed with the use of Icy Wind on the field, though not as much as he would have been if he had never seen it done like that before.
Cobra sent a Leer back at the Growl and ran straight towards the Seel. He got hit with the Icy Wind and he could feel snow and ice forming below him as he ran, but he kept his eyes forward, determined to leave a mark. Dark power from his Assurance attack covered him as he got closer, ready to consume the Seel once he hit. His eyes never wavered from her, even though ice flew in his face. He endured it with strong concentration because he knew he was strong enough, and enduring it would just make him stronger.

Kiki was a little surprised when Paul told his Axew to run right into the Icy Wind. The Pokemon did not seem to mind it at all. She wondered how they had found each other, for they seemed to be on the same wavelength. Well, she supposed it was good he had one Pokemon like him. Maybe that would help him keep some heat off of Thorn. The Assurance attack did a lot of damage, and she had to think fast. She could not think of a new way to use Icy Wind, so she decided to surprise them with a different attack. "Penelope, Headbutt!" It helped that the two Pokemon were now near each other. This may be it.
Penelope watched the Axew in bewilderment. How could he stand that? He must be pretty tough for a little dragon. She respected him for that, and she decided that she would be honored to have had a great battle whether she won or lost. <Not bad,> she said right before she was struck by the fierce attack. She felt really weak now, but she was determined to keep going. She just needed to hold on a little bit longer. She found the Axew and ran/hopped towards him, her head lowered for Headbutt.

When Cobra emerged from the attack still standing, Paul nodded in satisfaction. His Axew had taken quite a bit of damage, but it was good for him. Enduring attacks made Pokemon stronger. He watched as he got struck again, as he did not have time to dodge. Cobra was still standing. Paul knew he was probably holding onto his last bit of energy, though he hid it well. "Use Dual Chop!" This was it; he could feel it. If he ended up fainting, he will have still gotten stronger.
Cobra inwardly smiled as he felt contact with the Seel. The attack felt good, and it was all worth it. <Thanks,> he grunted as he stepped back. His eyes closed as he was flown back by the Headbutt. That hurt and added to his tiredness, but he wasn't going to show it. He remained on his feet and faced the Seel. He was ready for this. At his trainer's word, he ran back at her, prepared to give her two more brutal chops.

Penelope was dismayed when she saw that her attack had not done enough damage. Should she had used Icy Wind instead? No, she had to trust her trainer. She could still win this. She knew she had to dodge, but her body was too heavy and slow. It was over this time as she was struck by one more attack. At least she had done her best in the end.
"Try to dodge it!" Kiki called out. She knew it would be no use, though. She and Penelope were going to have to work on her dodging skills. She would be much better in the water. She watched as her Pokemon fainted from the dragon's attack. She knew her tough little Seel would take this loss as motivation to work harder and win next time. The girl wanted to win a tournament someday. "Thanks for the battle, Penelope. You deserve a rest." After returning her, she looked across the field at Paul. "Congratulations." She gave him a small smile. e had battled well.

Principal Sash was not disappointed by this battle. It almost made up for the previous lack of a battle. It was exciting until the end. She thought both trainers were quite clever and came up with interesting strategies. In the end, one Pokemon was able to stay in there a little longer. She stood up, stepped forward, and declared, "Penelope is unable to battle. Cobra is the winner, and the victory goes to Paul from Sinnoh. He will advance to the next round." She could hardly wait to see the excitement tat was to come.
Cobra has gained three levels. He now knows Scary Face.
Penelope has gained one level. She now knows Encore.
