OOC: This thread is for Kiki and Nate's battle, and it occurs first in roleplay time. Kiki should post first. She also has the first move.
IC: Principal Sash returned to the stage after the break. She looked around at the audience with a smile before speaking. "Thank you for waiting patiently, folks. Now it is time for our battle round. First up, we have Nae from Sinnoh and Kiki from Johto!" She stepped to the side as everyone applauded. She hoped this battle would be fantastic. She always loved a good show. |

Kiki was excited to be in the battle round of a contest once again. She had won a contest once, but she had not gotten far since then. Hopefully, it would be her turn again now. She heard she was battling her friend Nate. That was going to be fun. There was a small smile on her face as she stepped out onto the battle field. The cool wind felt good in her face, and she knew she was ready for this. "Penelope, come on out!" The Seel soon appeared before. The two of them had had much battling experience together, and they trusted each other and knew they could work well together. They could win this as long as they worked hard and gave it their all. Nate had done it. he had finally made it to the battle round of a contest. He was excited to see what a battle contest would be like. It made it even better that his first battle was against his friend, Kiki. He knew she had to be good if she had already won a contest, but he was determined to give it his best and have fun in the process. He strolled out onto the stage and took his place. "Hi," he said to Kiki. "Good luck." Then he pulled out a Pokeball and tossed it int he air. "You're up, Zippy!" The energetic Zigzagoon appeared before him. They were ready. Kiki smiled at Nate when he appeared. "Hi. Good luck to you too." This was going to be fun. So, he was using a Zigzagoon? Hmm... She decided to start off with a beautiful attack that was all but impossible to miss. "Penelope, let's use Icy Wind!" She hoped the Seel remembered their training about making her moves as elegant and appealing as possible instead of simply powerful. If she could do that, they had this.
Penelope looked over at the Zigzagoon with a determined look on her face. <You're going down!> she taunted. He did not look so tough. She totally had this! She was pleased with the first attack she was ordered to perform. That was a good one. She took in a deep breath and let it out in a flurry of snowflakes that made their way towards her opponent. The wind whipped around and circled him to attack. Nate found it interesting that Kiki chose to use a Pokemon that battled better in the water than the land. She must have a lot of confidence in her, so he was going to watch out. He could not think of a way to avoid Icy Wind right now, but that did not mean he had to sit by and wait for it to be over. "Zippy, run into the wind, jump up, and usr Headbutt!" They had worked on this combination in training, and he hoped it would be effective here.
Zippy blinked at the Seel. <Going down? Oh, ok. We'll see about that.> He did not like that she did not seem very friendly. Oh well. Maybe she would want to play after the battle. He shivered as the cold wind hit him. He braced himself against the cold, though, so that he could run forward straight through it. When he got close to his opponent, he leapt into the air, aiming his head towards the Seel. Kiki was impressed with the way the Zigzagoon ran right through Icy Wind. Penelope would not have enough time to evade the attack, so she let it hit. "You use Headbutt too!" she called onced she was free tto move. It would be a little more difficult from her position, but she hoped she could do it. She was already figuring out her next move in case this one failed.
Penelope tried her best to get out a good Icy Wind. She saw the Zigzagoon coming towards her, and she braced herself for the attack. It hurt, but it was not something she could not handle. Plus, she had that attack too! As soon as she was able to move, she pushed herself around and tried to get at her opponent. She used her tail to push herself up slightly and come down with a Headbutt. So, the Seel knew Headbutt as well? Luckily, she could not move around very fast whereas the Zigzagoon was quite speedy. "Dodge and use Tackle!" Nate nodded in satisfaction when his Pokemon was able to complete his orders. He hoped the judges would be impressed by more than just the power of his attacks.
It felt great to hit that Seel! His head felt really good after it, so it must have cleared it up. Zippy was pumped and ready to win this. He enjoyed using his speed to dodge, and he was able to easily get out of the way of the slow moving water Pokemon. Without slowing down, he ran back around and leapt at his opponent for a Tackle this time. Kiki gritted her teeth as she watched the battle progressed. She was losing too many points. If this kept up, she would not have enough time to recover. How was she supposed to deal with the Zigzagoon's speed? Suddenly, remember a battle she had with Paul, she got an idea. "Penelope, use Icy Wind on the whole field!" She hoped this would work. Her plan would be better with a different ice attack, but this one was going to have to do.
Penelope growled in frustration when her attack hit. She wished she was in water; then she would really shine. Or perhaps some ice would do. The Tackle attack broke away her thoughts. <Hey, watch it!> She needed something good to get back into this battle. Her trainer's idea immediately caught her attention. That just might work! She blew out an Icy Wind again, this time hitting the entire field along with the Zigzagoon. Nate thought for sure he had the upper hand. The Seel could not seem to do much faced with his Zigzagoon's speed. Unfortunately, that soon changed as ice covered the field. What was he supposed to do now? He could only think of one solution to the problem. "Zippy, slide forward on the ice with your head lowered to use Headbutt!" It was worth a shot.
Zippy's head was really clear now. He bounced back to his side of the field to wait for his next order. Suddenly, he felt chilled by a frozen wind. Then he saw that the whole field was frozen! This was not good. He was uneasy about is trainer's plan, but it did not seem like he had much of a choice. He hesitantly stepped onto the ice. Then he pushed himself forward, his head lowered so that he could hit his target. Kiki was much more confident now that she knew her Pokemon could move around on the field well. "Dodge it and use Growl and Headbutt!" She knew the Seel would be able to do it. It looked like she had regained the momentum and was coming out ahead. Of course, both coordinators still had points and time left, so she knew it was not over just yet.
Penelope smirked across the field at the Zigzagoon. She hopped onto the ice, suddenly feeling at home. Her opponent, on the other hand, kept slipping around. It was easy for her to move and dodge the attack. <Nice try!> she teased. She moved back and forth on the ice, gliding gracefully. She then turned and growled at the Zigzagoon endearingly. She sped up as she slid towards him, her head ready to hit him. Nate did not know how the battle managed to flip around on him. He was losing too many points too quickly, and his Zigzagoon was tiring out fast. He had to think of a way to slow down that Seel and overcome the icy field. Something came to mind, and he decided to give it a try. "Zippy, use Sand Attack! Then use Headbutt, using your tail to launch yourself in the air!" He did not want him to move around much in case he slipped again.
The ice was too slippery for Zippy's liking. He stumbled and fell on his face before he could get to the Seel. As soon as he managed to stand on his legs, his opponent slammed into him with Headbutt. It was a struggle to stand back up again. He took a deep breath before attempting a Sand Attack, breaking up some of the ice in the process. Then he used his tail to lift himself into the air. He came down on the Seel, aiming his head for her. Kiki was confident that she would be able to win this battle. The ice on the field was melting now, but she could use that to her advantage as well. Water was slippery too. Nate did seem to come up wit a great move to hit her Seel. That was not going to be enough, though. "Penelope, hit him with Icy Wind!" A close hit would be excellent right about now.
Penelope smirked when she felt her head collide wit the Zigzagoon. Battling was so awesome, and she was just great! She knew she was going to win this because of her superior abilities. The Sand Attack caught her off guard, and she had to close her eyes from the discomfort. She did not see her opponent coming, and he hit her straight on. <You'll pay for that!> she snarled. She turned in his direction and let out her best Icy Wind. Nate was still frustated that Kiki was in the lead. That close-up Icy Wind really had an effect on his Zigzagoon. He did not know if he would be able to take another attack. He was just going have to give it his best and use the best combination he could come up with. "Zippy, use Growl and Headbutt!" Maybe if it looked impressive enough, they would be able to take away a lot of points from their opponent.
Zippy was successful in his attack, but a second later, he was hit by a chilly wind. He shivered as he backed up. That did not feel good at all! He took a deep breath as he tried to figure out what to do next. He knew he could not let his trainer down. He growled menacingly, arching his back to make his fur stand on end. Then he raced forward on the melting ice. When he got close to the Seel, he stopped running and isntead slid on the ice/water with his head lowered so that he would hit her. Kiki could tell that the Zigzagoon was almost worn out. One more attack should do it. She could have asked her Seel to dodge the Headbutt, but then she had a better idea. She knew Penelope could take one more hit. "You use Headbutt as well!" This would almost ensure that their own attack would hit. Hopefully, the battle would then be over, but she knew anything could happen.
Penelope eyed the Zigzagoon with caution. What was he up to now? He seemed to have gotten better at sliding around in the ice/water mix. This was not good news for her. She liked her trainer's plan. She would hit this threat head on! She started moving swiftly forward as well, trying to look as elegant as possible. She gained speed as she neared her target. Then she lowered her head to ram into him. Zippy crashed into his opponent head on. The force of the attack sent him flying back towards his trainer. He tried to stand up, but that had jsut been too much. He collapsed on the ground, fainted.
"No! Zippy!" Nate cried. He ran forward and scooped the Zigzagoon into his arms. He smiled at him sadly. "Good work. You battled well." He took out his Pokeball and returned him. Then he looked across the field at Kiki and nodded. "Congratulations. That was an awesome battle. It was impressive how you were able to turn it around in your favor." He had certainly learned a lot. And now he knew what a contest battle was like. It had been pretty fun. As he walked off the stage, he knew he would be rooting for Kiki in the finals.
