Paul entered the Battle Arena with his Axew, Cobra, by his side. Miss Riverton followed a little ways behind. A teacher had to facilitate the battle, so he had chosen her. A rather strange thing was in Paul's arms as he walked. It was something that he never would have willingly taken. It was an egg. The only thing he knew about it was that it was a steel egg. Every student had gotten some kind of egg. It was some sort of Easter celebration thing. The egg was just forced on him, it was literally shoved into his arms, and he had no say in the matter. He could not just leave it anywhere and no one would take it from him when they had their own egg to take care of, so he had decided to deal with it. The prospect of raising a Pokemon from a hatchling did not enthuse him, but he would think of something to do with it once it hatched. Maybe he would sell it.
With the egg in his arms, he soon found an unoccupied battle space and stopped to look around at anyone who might be there. There was no one who was free at the moment, so he would have to wait. He remained still as he observed those in battle. He hoped he would have some worthy competition, for this battle was going towards completing his first mission towards becoming a member of the organization as well as strengthening up Cobra before he challenged his first Battle Leader. Cobra, who stood beside him, also hoped for some competition. No matter the size or level, he could take it! He stood, focusing himself for battle. Gina was ready to engage in another battle. She tried to battle at least once a day on the weekdays with breaks on the weekends. She needed to be in top form if she wanted to become a Pokemon master. She entered the Battle Area with a confident stride. Her eyes swept across the area as she looked for a possible opponent. They landed on Paul and his Axew. They looked pretty tough, so they were perfect for her. She marched over to the trainer and stood before him. "You," she barked. "Do you want to battle?" She opened a Pokeball and released a Patrat for him to examine. She hoped he would accept her challenge.

Paul took in the girl as she approached him and let out her Patrat. She was challenging him. Excellent. She appeared to be competent, though the only way to know for sure was to battle. He gave her a curt nod of agreement. "It will just be a one on one battle. That was all he needed in order to complete the challenge as well as finish strengthening up his team for his upcoming battle. "The first one to cause the other to faint wins." He glanced at Miss Riverton to verify that she was ready. Then he realized he was still holding the egg. He walked away from Cobra and placed the egg on the soft grass. It would be safe there. "Cobra, use Scratch!" he ordered as soon as he was facing his Axew again. He was too eager to start that he did not check to see if the girl was ready or had anything else to say. It was time for battle.
Cobra gave a low grunt of acknowledgement to the Patrat when it appeared. It looked like a suitable opponent. He wondered how strong it was. No matter what, though, it would not be stronger than him. When Paul ordered his first attack, he was ready. Without pause, he ran forward, aiming his sharp claws at the Patrat. Gina grinned when the guy accepted his challenge. This was going to be awesome! "That sounds good to me. I'm Gina, and prepare to be-" She blinked when she realized he had already started the battle. Well, how rude of him! She was about to call him out on his rudeness when her Patrat was hit by Scratch. "Hey, not fair! Wobble, use Tackle!" She was going to defeat this rude dude if it was the last thing she did.
Wobble took a battle stance and prepared to attack. He waited for his trainer's command to dodge, but it never came. He was surprised when he was hit by the dragon's Scratch attack. That was no fun! He grumbled a bit before brushing it off and preparing to Tackle.

Paul smirked. Was she not prepared for that? He was not going to underestimate her based on that because he was still hoping the battle would be at least somewhat of a challenge. "You should be prepared for anything," he retorted. "Cobra, dodge." He watched in satisfaction as his Axew was able to get out of the way of the Patrat. "Now use Assurance!" Since the Patrat had already taken in some damage, the power of the attack would increase. He was curious as to how powerful it could become.
Cobra grinned in triumph at his success. Ha! He was going to win this, and it wasn't because his new trainer wanted him to. The Axew wanted it just as much. He wanted to become as strong as he could be, and winning battles like this was a good way to get there. He quickly jumped out of way of the Patrat. As soon as he did, he spun around to face him again. After Paul said it, he used Assurance, sending some dark substance towards his opponent. Gina grit her teeth at the guy's reply. "I give people the benefit of the doubt, so rudeness isn't a possibility I consider!" she shouted. Maybe it was something she should take into account next time. It was really his fault, though. After all, he could at least give her his name, right? Her eyes widened when she saw that her Pokemon was hit again. Then an idea hit her. "Stay calm, Wobble, and use Bide!" This would work, right? Yeah, that had been her plan all along!
Wobble was confused when he was not asked to dodge again, but then he realized his trainer must be planning for Bide. She was very smart, after all. He winced as he took the Assurance attack, knowing it would soon be worth it. He took a deep breath before letting out a white ball of energy, which would deal double the damage he had taken.

Paul ignored the girl's response. What was her problem? He turned his attention back to the battle. Bide was a smart move, but he wondered if that was really her plan all along. It was sloppy if she did it just because she failed at telling her Pokemon to dodge, no matter if it was a quick clever move. He did not bother to tell his Axew to dodge because it would only harm them in the long run if he did succeed in that. It was better to just take it now. Bide was a powerful move and had caused quite a bit of damage to Cobra, but he was still standing. "Use Leer," he instructed. "Now, Dragon Rage!" This battle was still theirs to take.
Cobra stared the Patrat down while he braced himself for what was to come at the same time. He gritted his teeth as he was struck by Bide, but he remained on his feet. It was evident that he had taken quite a blow. He was going to stick through it, though. At his trainer's command, he sent a piercing leer at his opponent. Then, he allowed pure rage to surge through him as he ran at him. Bide seemed to work well. Gina was a guineas! Now they just needed to wrap this up. Wobble was hit by Dragon Rage, but he would be fine. Time for another attack. "Wobble, now let's use Bite!" Yeah, that would do it.
Wobble struck a pose after completing Bide. He was the master! He was then slightly unnerved by the Axew's Leer. Why did he have to do that? Before he could figure it out, he was struck by Dragon Rage. He slowly stood up and then raced towards his opponent to bite him.

The Patrat still seemed to be hanging on pretty well, a lot better than Cobra. Paul needed to think fast if he was going to win. It was going to be close. Losing was not an option. "Use Assurance when I tell you," he told his Axew as soon as the Patrat's next move was called out. As soon as he was close enough, he said, "Now!" The close proximity would nearly guarantee a full blown hit, though it also risked Cobra getting hit as well. He was still standing, so it was fine. It better have been worth it, though. This Axew had been tough to beat; he better not be easily beaten this time.
Cobra turned around to face his opponent after he hit him, already preparing himself for his next move. He readied himself to use Assurance when Paul told him to. This meant he wasn't going to be dodging the Patrat's attack. He could take it! As soon as he was told, he sent Assurance at him. He still got hit, but at least he got his own attack in as well. Gina's eyes widened when the Axew ran right at Wobble instead of trying to dodge. They really were powerful. Well, she could take it! Right now, it looked like the battle could belong to either one of them. "Try using Tackle!" Yeah, that should work.
Wobble tried to stop his attack once he realized what the Axew was doing, but it was too late. He was sent flying back by Assurance and hit the ground hard. He struggle to get up, but he managed to do it. He was slower this time as he ran towards the other Pokemon.

The girl seemed surprised. That slightly amused him. He wasn't afraid to run right into an attack with one of his own. It showed just how strong his Pokemon really was, and it toughened him up too. If his Pokemon couldn't take a move like that, then he didn't want it on his team. The move seemed to have worked out quite well. "Dodge!" He was slowing down, so he was unable to completely get away from the tackle, but it was better than nothing. "Use Leer and then Dragon Rage!" It was time to finish this.
Cobra was forced back by the collision, but he was not nearly as affected by it as his opponent. That made him glad. He stepped forward to show that he was still ready for another attack. He was strong! At Paul's command, he attempted to leap out of the way. Due to the Bide having harmed him a great deal, he was too slow. He did not get the full effect of the attack, though. He turned, still on his feet, and gave the Patrat a menacing leer. A moment later he was running as fast as he could towards him in pure rage. Wobble looked up just in time to see the Leer. He froze on place, unsure of what to do. Then he was hit by Dragon Rage, causing him to fly across the field. He skidded to a halt in the grass and fainted.
Gina let out a gasp of alarm. "No! Wobble!" She ran over to her Pokemon to make sure he was alright. Sighing, she returned him to his Pokeball. There was a small frown on her face as she stood up to face Paul. "Well, you won." She was not too happy about it, but she would get over it.

Paul nodded in satisfaction as the Patrat fainted. A quick thought came to his mind, and he immediately took out a camera from his backpack. Duke has said to bring him proof of the victory, so a picture should do. Before the girl put her Pokemon back in his Pokeball, he snapped a picture of them along with his Axew standing victorious. He swiftly placed the camera back into his backpack. He returned Cobra to his Pokeball and looked over at the girl. "Nice battle," he said with a nod. Without another word, he turned around, picked up his egg, and headed away from the area.
