OOC: This thread is for Sawyer and Kagirinai's battle, and it occurs first in roleplay time. Saywer should post first. She also has the first move. IC: A second semester had come and almost gone. Now it was time for the tournament, which would decide the semester champion. The previous semester, Hoenn had won, and Principal Sash was looking forward to see if they could keep their crown. This time, only four teams were being represented in the tournament. This was going to be a great month. The stands were filled as Sash entered the Battle Area. She stepped up to the microphone at the side of the battlefield with Maya. "Hello," she said in a cheerfuly tone. "Welcome to the Summer 2014 Tournament! First up, Sawyer from Unova and Kagirinai from Hoenn will be battling!" She stepped off the stage after the cheering died down so the trainers could begin. |

Sawyer could hardly believe she had actually made it to the semester tournament. All of her hard work had paid off. If she could win this, she would earn much respect for her team and from all of her fellow students. She was determined to put forth her best effort and win no matter what. Though she was younger than many of the students, she had a confident stride as she made her way onto the battlefield. She took her place and then released her Pokemon. "I'm counting on you, Kopa." The Litleo that appeared before her nodded. He wanted to win this just as much as she. It was on.

Kagirinai made his way towards the Battle Arena to participate in the Summer Tournament. After his defeat in the previous tournament to Kiki a spark had arisen within him. He had become slightly more determined so he had been training fiercely in order to bolster the strength of his pokemon primarily his Nidorino Dokuton who had made evolve during his match with the battle leader Jenna giving him a powerful rampaging Nidoking. Kagirinai licked his lips as he entered into the arena wearing a pair of black trousers, a black kimono top, waraji, white tabi socks and as usual his long flowing lab coat. He had washed his lab coat and repaired it in order to look appropriate for the tournament as he seemed to glide along the terrain making his way over to the main floor to face his opponent a young girl from the Unova region named Sawyer. As he made his way over to his side of the arena he noticed the girl had called out a Litleo a fire type pokemon. He merely pushed his glasses up with his right palm as he removed a pokeball from his lab coat. He enlarged the pokeball and tossed it up into the air. The ball opened as a beam of light shot out and hit the ground. The earth shook slightly as a loud roar was heard as the creature from within made its presence known. Towering over the fire lion at Four Feet Seven Inches was a purple rampaging Nidoking. The Poison Ground type drummed his chest as his tail struck the ground as he howled loudly. The Nidoking turned his attention on the fire type and merely smirked before turning to his trainer, "Dokuton don't hold back" he commanded causing the nidoking to nod as he turned back to the fire pokemon. Sawyer kept her eyes on her opponent as he approached. She gave him a small nod in acknowledgment. So, his Pokemon was a Nidoking? The poison and ground type looked pretty tough. She enjoyed tough opponents, and she knew her Litleo did as well. She would rather lose to a strong opponent and learn valuable lessons than to easily beat a weak opponent and learn very little. She had the first move, and she was ready. The fact that both Pokemon had the Rivalry ability was going to make this interesting. "Kopa, use Work-Up and then Fire Spin!" It was best to start off strong.
Kopa stared at the Nidoking with a determined look on his face. The strength of his opponent caused more heat to flow through his mane and more power to flow through his body. He was ready for this. He first used Work-Up to rouse himself and increase his attack and speed attack. Then he opened his mouth and released spinning flames that would trap the Nidoking within a fiery vortex, harming him for four to five turns. That was how it was done!

Dokuton stood still waiting patiently for his opponent to make the first move he was eager to see just how much stronger he had become since evolving into this new form. He was still getting use to his new body but it felt just so right like a fish to water. He turned his head as his foe was finally given commands, work up and fire spin. He simply stared at the group using his leer to lower the opposing pokemon's defence as the Litleo used his work-up. He was prepared for the battle he wouldn't need his trainers commands and Kagirinai was well aware of this. Dokuton stood his ground as the spinning flames wrapped around him, he could feel the heat on his skin but he merely smirked as they had done barely any damage, he rather liked his new powerful form. Kagirinai yawned loudly as he sat down on his side of the arena and removed a small notepad and pen from his lab coat. He opened the notepad and began to scribble notes inside glancing up every and now and then to see what was happening with the battle and documenting any notes he thought he might need any ideas that came to mind. Dokuton pounded his chest howling loudly as his tail swayed forth through the air before striking the ground hard. Vibrations travelled out through the ground as a small shaking followed. The Nidoking slammed his tail down again causing the vibrations to run through the ground again followed by more shaking. The poison ground type roared as he raised his right foot and brought it down hard on the ground causing it to crack before the entire battle arena shook violently under the force of his earthquake. Sawyer was momentarily caught off guard by the action that ensued. Kopa's attack did not seem to do much, while the Nidoking's move unleashed considerable damage. She may have underestimated the strength of her opponent. Wasn't it in the rules of the tournament that they had to choose Pokemon of similar levels to make it fairer? She did not mind personally. Others would probably whine about it, though not without reason. Sawyer enjoyed tougher opponents, which gave question to why the other guy did not. Battling was about much more than winning; it was about working hard and learning through tough experiences. She shook the thoughts away. It was time to strike back! "Kopa, use Ember!"
Kopa was not deterred by the almost haughty way his opponent took his attack. Even if Fire Spin did not do much damage right now, it would add up after five turns. At the same time, he would continue with other attacks. The Earthquake caused him to lose his balance and fall, making him angry. He glared at the Nidoking as he stood back up. At his trainer's words, he shot out balls of fire at his opponent.

(OOC: Whoops forgot about that rule my bad) Dokuton stared at the Litleo as he was heavily effected by his Earthquake attack, being a ground type the fire type would naturally be weak to this move. Upon realising just how much stronger he was in comparison to the Litleo he decided to alter his battle strategy up and use only fire based attacks in order to give the Litleo a chance to do him some damage. Nidoking stood still as the tiny embers slammed into his body hitting him with a powerful volley of fire. He stood there looking at the smaller pokemon before rubbing the burn marks on his body. He slowly breathed in his cheeks expanding before he opened his mouth releasing a stream of bright orange flames. OOC: It's alright. Just try to remember for next time. ^^ Hmm... The Nidoking was using Flamethrower now? That was a bit of a turnaround. It was then that Sawyer noticed the Pokemon was attacking without any commands. She looked at his trainer and became alarmed to find that he did not appear too interested in the battle. She felt slight anger at this. Was he lazy or uninterested? Why make his Pokemon do all the work. She was going to have to beat him for this. "Ember, again!"
Kopa stared straight back at the Nidoking. He wondered what he was thinking. Suddenly, he was engulfed in flames. It was a powerful attack, but it did not do as much damage as others would because he was a fire type. He supposed he should be grateful for that. When he had the chance, he used his own fire attack again.

(OOC: I'll try and even it out a little) Dokuton roared as he stomped the ground beneath him as he focused on Kopa. He winced as fire spun around him feeling the effects of the fire spin before Kopa unleashed an ember upon him. The tiny flames danced across his skin. He stumbled back as he felt his skin beginning to burn, the tiny embers had managed to inflict him with a burn. He sneered at this and turned to Kopa and opened his mouth unleashing a torrent of flames once more, fight fire with fire. The flames shot forth through the air roaring towards Kopa. Level: 23 Abilities: Poison Point, Rivalry, Sheer Force Attacks: Leer, Peck, Focus Energy, Double Kick, Poison Sting, Fury Attack, Horn Attack TM Moves:Poison Jab, Venoshock, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Flame Thrower,Earthquake

OOC: Thanks.  The battle was progressing better than Sawyer had expected. Despite her annoyance at the other trainer, his Nidoking seemed like a pretty good and noble Pokemon. It would be cool to have an epic battle against him with a Pokemon of similar strength, and she wondered if they would ever meet again. Her Litleo was still losing energy quicker than his opponent, so she knew she had to come up with something better. "Kopa, this time use Leer before Ember!" She did not want him to use Tackle and risk being poisoned.
Kopa smirked slightly when it appeared that his attacks were taking a toll on the Nidoking. he was not doing too well himself, but he was determined to keep trying to win. She closed his eyes as flames engulfed him once more. Opening them, he used Leer before attempting another Ember attack.

The tongues of ember flickered across his skin before fire whirled around him as he was affected by the fire spin. He wasn't to concerned with loosing the battle as long as he got to have some fun while battling he would be happy. He designed instead of fighting fire with fire he would change things up a bit. He opened his mouth as a cyan sphere formed between his teeth. He aimed his head and released a beam of cyan light. The terrain froze as the beam struck it and flew on towards the fire type. Ice moves naturally weren't very effective on fire types but it would help even things out between them. Sawyer raised her eyebrows slightly when the Nidoking changed it up with Ice Beam. Though an ice attack, like a fire attack, would not be strong against Kopa, the ice on the battlefield did make the situation interesting. "Dodge it and use Ember!"She glanced at the other trainer to see if she could decipher what he thought about this. He either did not care about the battle or trusted his Pokemon enough to let him take control. She decided not to worry about it and instead focus on winning.
Kopa braced himself when he saw a beam of ice coming towards him. He knew it would not do much damage to him, but at this point, he cold not afford to be hit much more. This attack was easier to dodge than Flamethrower, and he was able to dart to the side while running towards the Nidoking, opening his mouth to use Ember once the Ice Beam was finished.

The battle kept Principal Sash at the edge of her seat. The little Litleo sure was strong and courageous. She had not thought he would be capable of winning, but he pulled through in the end. As soon as one of the Pokemon fainted, she stood up and sad, "Nidoking is unable to battle. Litleo is the winner, and the battle goes to Sawyer. She will be representing Unova in the next round!" She smiled as everyone applauded. That had been an incredible battle, and she could not wait for the next one!
Kopa has gained four levels. He now knows Headbutt!
Nidoking has gained one level! |

Sawyer's heart was pounding by the end of the battle. That had certainly been intense. She could almost not believe that she and Kopa had managed to beat the big Nidoking. "You were amazing, Kopa. Great job." The Litleo smiled up at her, swishing his tail back and forth. She took out his Pokeball and returned him. Now she was onto the next round. She nodded at her opponent before confidently striding off of the battle field. So far, so good. |
