OOC: This thread is for Paul and Susano'o's battle, and it occurs second in roleplay time. Paul should post first. He also has the first move. IC: Now it was time for the second battle. Principal Sash returned to the microphone after Sawyer and Kagirinai left the field. "Alright, now it's time for Paul and Susano'o!" She decided to keep it short so the battle could get going. Smiling, she walked back to her place. |

Paul entered the field calmly. It pleased him that he would be able to participate in the summer tournament. It had been partly a surprise to him that he was the one to represent his team. It was not that he did not think he could do it. It was just that this past semester he had been busy meeting that Duke guy and following through on the mission given to him. Add that to class work and he did not have as much time to gain himself points as the last semester. The rest of his team were probably slacking; that was never a good sign. Pushing that aside, though, he stopped at the spot on the field where he would remain for the duration of the battle. He knew just the Pokemon he was going to use. "Thorn, stand by for battle!" he said as he threw the Pokeball. Thorn appeared, eager as ever with bright eyes surveying his surroundings. Susano'o slowly made his way into the battle arena, to be honest he wasn't happy being here. He would love to be able to compete but his team was still rather weak and no doubt his opponent was of a higher skill then him. He only had two pokemon he could really use his Wooper and his newly caught Numel. He bounced a lone pokeball up and down as he continued walking. Besides the tournament he was slightly annoyed, someone had stolen one of his tonfa, the girl named Ayame. Oh once he was strong enough he was going to tear her apart for doing that, no one stole anything of his without feeling the consequences. He smiled brightly as he walked into the arena taking note his opponent Paul was already there having called out a Turtwig to do battle with. The Turtwig looked rather strong he had doubts that his pokemon would last long. He would have loved to use his Aerodactyl but the pokemon was still to weak so he would resort to using his Wooper in this match. The turtwig would have an advantage but his Wooper did have Ice beam. Susano'o walked onto the battlefield and threw the pokeball into the air as his Wooper appeared on the arena before glancing at his foe, "Before you bring it up, yes I am aware of the type advantage however Wooper is my only battle ready pokemon" he commented as he ducked his hands into his pockets and waited for the match to begin. Paul studied the person who came forward. This would be his opponent. He watched as he released his own Pokemon. A Wooper. That was either an interesting or a very foolish choice, considering the type disadvantage. It looked pretty weak as well. The boy's words confirmed his observation. Most would be overjoyed that their opponent was at a disadvantage, but Paul frowned. "That's rather unfortunate," he said in a way that revealed he was displeased with the idea as well. He mainly cared for the tournament for the opportunity to make his Pokemon stronger; he could not do that if his opponent was too weak. Perhaps his next opponent would prove stronger. However, this was a chance to show just how strong his Turtwig had become. "Thorn, use Razor Leaf," he said. He hoped this battle would go quickly.
Thorn smiled as he took in his surroundings. <Wow! This is so cool!> He gave a big grin to the audience. They were battling, right? When he saw the Wooper, he knew he was right. Great! This must be some special battle since so many people had come to watch. Was it like a tournament or something? He could not think anything else, for his trainer had given him an order. Okay, he would be good and concentrate. After all, he didn't want Paul to be mad at him. He could tell that he would be extra mad considering all of the witnesses. Razor Leaf was fun, so he happily threw sharp leaves at the Wooper. <I'm sorry if this hurts!> he called to him. Susano'o merely eyed the turtwig, while his foe was no doubt superior to him he wasn't going to be defeated that easily. He smiled sweetly as Paul ordered the grass type to release his Razor leaf. Susano'o smirked as the leaves raced towards him, "Wooper evasion tactics ice rink!" he called. Wooper nodded his head and opened his mouth firing a beam of cyan light to his right causing the ground to freeze over. The moment it was frozen the wooper literally began to skate along the ice just as the leaves hit where he previously stood. Wooper aimed his ice beam around the terrain freezing it over turning the battle field into an ice rink as he began to skate about the ice laughing as he did. He used his tail like a rudder in order to turn when needed as he began to skate around the Turtwig. Level: 7 Abilities: Damp, Water Absorb, Unaware Attacks:Water Gun, Tail Whip, Mud Sport TM Moves:Ice Beam, Dig, Scald Hit By: Used: Ice Beam Health: High Green |

Paul had not quite expected Razor Leaf to work; every time he had used it his opponent always figured out some way to avoid some or all of it. It was something he was trying to work out, but he was not sure if it was worth the effort. Now, while he had not expected the move to work out that well, he had not anticipated it to be avoided in this way. It surprised him. He had to admit that it was pretty clever to turn the field into an ice rink. That proved to be a great obstacle. It did not shake Paul, though. Looking at Thorn, he rolled his eyes upon seeing him fall from trying to skate too. It was time for a new strategy. Seeing as the Wooper was not planning to attack, he told Thorn, "Use Absorb!" This move was unavoidable. It always made its mark.
Thorn's eyes widened as the field was iced over. <Wow!> he exclaimed. This was so cool! It was like an ice rink! He smiled at the Wooper as he skated around him. <I want to try that!> He moved his little feet in an attempt to glide across he ice, but he ended up slipped and falling flat on his face. <Ow...> he mumbled. He tried to get up, but he just fell right back down. Now his trainer was giving him orders. Absorb? Great! He loved that attack. Also, he did not need to be standing to perform it. He eyed the Wooper and concentrated on him. As he did so, green light came out of him and moved to attach itself to the Wooper in order to suck out some of his energy. Thorn Level: 17 Attacks: Tackle, Withdraw, Absorb, Razor Leaf, Curse Egg Move: Growth Abilities: Overgrow, Shell Armor Hit By: Used: Absorb Health: High Green OOC: Just to clarify, the whole field is now an ice rink, so Thorn is standing on ice, right? Susano'o hid a smirk as he continued to watch the battle take place as the Turtwig was commanded to use its absorb ability. He was waiting for the pokemon to use a none offensive move so he could use his encore. If he could get the opponent to use a move that wasn't designed to damage him then he could have a chance of winning this but he doubted that was going to happen any time soon. He simply watched as his Wooper attempted to avoid the absorb but failed as his health was rapidly drained. The type difference and level difference made it incredibly strong but wooper remained strong as he wagged his tail while skating. He had already been told ahead of time what to do concerning different situations and for now he was to continue using ice beam until the right moment along with tail whip. The wooper skated on the ice having the advantage as he opened his mouth firing a cyan light at Turtwig. Level: 7 Abilities: Damp, Water Absorb, Unaware Attacks:Water Gun, Tail Whip, Mud Sport TM Moves:Ice Beam, Dig, Scald Hit By: Absorb Used: Ice Beam Health: Yellow (OOC: Yep complete ice. OOC: I am sorry, but we have to keep moving along. Paul, I know you are away for the weekend, so I will give you until Tuesday night to reply or Susano'o will win by default. Let me know if anything else comes up that prevents you form coming on and I will give you an extension.

Paul was not worried about the ice, for Absorb was not a move that required movement at all. Also knowing that Absorb was very reliable, he had full confidence in winning the battle. It could take a while if his opponent came up with ways to prolong the inevitable end, but the end was secure nevertheless. He knew better than to tell Thorn to move on the ice, for that would bring about a disastrous end, so he kept silent when the ice beam came. There was a chance of him becoming frozen solid, but that was a chance he would have to take. This time, Thorn was fine. "Absorb, again!" he instructed his Turtwig.
Thorn grinned in happiness when his attack had worked. He had not needed any more energy to be given to him from the attack, but it felt good anyways. After his attack, he tried to stand back up again, but he slipped and fell yet again. Then, before he new it, he was getting blasted with ice! <Tha--tha--that's cold!> he shivered. Still shivering he used Absorb again as he was told, hoping it would help warm him up. The Wooper smirked with glee as his ice beam nailed the Turtwig once again, plus the grass type falling over made him laughing loudly as he slid about without a worry. Sadly his sliding would come to an end as he felt his energy being drained. His eyes widened as he slipped landing on his face and went sliding over to his trainer crashing head first into Susano'o knocking them both over. The Wooper lay in his trainers eyes with swirls in his eyes before he fainted. Susano'o merely sighed he knew what to expect from this so he pulled out a pokeball and returned Wooper, " Least we tried" he said as he got to his feet and dusted himself off, "Congratulations" he said as he gave paul a smile. Level: 7 Abilities: Damp, Water Absorb, Unaware Attacks:Water Gun, Tail Whip, Mud Sport TM Moves:Ice Beam, Dig, Scald Hit By: Absorb Used: Health: --- |

Principal Sash watched the battle intently. The Turtwig seemed to have the advantage from the beginning, but the Wooper tried hard to win. In the end, it was a short battle. Sash still enjoyed it, though. When it was all finished, she stepped forward and said, "Wooper is unable to battle. Thorn is the winner, and victory goes to Paul. He will be representing Sinnoh in the next round!" She smiled as the audience clapped. She could not wait for it to begin!
Thorn has gained two levels!
Wooper has gained one level! |

It did not surprise Paul when the Wooper finally fainted. Just as he had thought, the battle had not lasted too long. It was a shame. In a tournament like this, he would have expected some more competence. It had to do with how the rules for qualifying for it worked. It did not matter how strong your Pokemon were; you just needed to have a lot of points. It was quite easy to get a lot of points and not train your Pokemon very well. Perhaps the wildcard round just weeded out those who were weak so that the continuing battles would be far more challenging and worthy.
Paul looked over at Susano'o and gave him a nod in response to what he said. He did not have anything else to say to him. He then glanced over at Thorn, for he was attempting to stand up again in order to dance (he was already continually chanting his pleasure at winning). He opened his mouth to command him to be quiet and that he should not celebrate when the Turtwig suddenly burst into a bright white light. He was evolving. Soon, a Grotle stood before Paul. He was a bit larger and heavier than his Turtwig form. Having researched about Grotle beforehand, he knew that due to that he would be a lot slower than before. That was something he would have to work on in training. Already seeing by the look on Thorn's face that he was going to start freaking out, Paul took out his pokeball and returned him. He headed out of the arena, feeling accompished from the evolution. Now, he was on to the next round. |
