Her first day. Her first day and Eve was about to begin what would surely be one of the most complicated and yet rewarding experience she might ever be so fortunate to undertake. A Pokemon was a living thing, after all. It was another life she'd be taking care of all on her own and raising herself for protection and for companionship. The thought left her awestruck, and yet for some reason, terrified. Why? She didn't know. She'd seen her parents do it not only with their Pokemon, but with her, and with her siblings. And they tolerated more than one, that was for sure. Why couldn't she even handle one? She could, that much was in her mind as an idea she wouldn't back down from. One Pokemon was just a stepping stone to being great.
She knocked quietly on the door to the principal's office, knowing this was where she was to go to get her first Pokemon. The thought crossed her mind just what she might get. She wanted something friendly, a strong yet caring Pokemon, something she could befriend easily and yet something that could mature with her and be a lifelong friend. When she was finally allowed inside, she turned the knob slowly, taking a deep breath before stepping inside, knowing that she was expected, and that this moment would shape the rest of her life. "Hi, I-I'm Eve... I'm here for my first Pokemon?"

It was that time again. It was the start of another busy semester. Principal Sash was looking forward to the new students she was sure would begin to pour in. The school had been growing recently thanks to new programs that had been implemented, and she was grateful for the success. What she did not like about the beginning of the semester was all of the paper work. She was busy at her computer while her Vulpix Maya took a nap by her desk. She was glad when she heard a knock on the door, knowing it was a new student with an appointment.
"Come in!" she called as she stood up. By the time she made her way over to the door, a girl had already found her way inside. She could tell she was nervous, so the principal gave her a warm smile. "Hello, Eve. My name is Principal Sash. Welcome to Cherilli Academy! Let me get you the personality test so we can find you a Pokemon." Maya had awoken when she heard her trainer talking. She jumped up onto the desk and leafed through some papers with her nose. Finally, she grabbed a sheet of paper in her mouth, hopped back down to the floor, and trotted over to Sash. The principal then took the paper and held it out to the girl. "Thank you, Maya. Here you are, dear."

Eve was somewhat nervous, but she tried to push past it and not let it be known that on the inside, she almost feared she would be told they made a mistake letting her in, and that she needed to go home and reregistered to a school an Agate. She couldn't lie, she loved Agate, but this school was her home for the upcoming chapter in her life, and she wasn't going to take no for an answer, if she could help it. So when she heard that voice from beyond the door, she pushed it open and carefully stepped inside before closing the door. She was met with a warm smile that was so,we here between reassuring and tediously discomforting, but she accepted it as the former, knowing the principal had no reason not to like her.
She listened quietly as the principal introduced herself, addressing her by name already in a way that gave the impression Sash has glad to have her here. That greatly relaxed her, and allowed her to respond with a soft, "thank you," as her eyes slowly scanned about the room, examining the details of the well-designed office. She was handed a personality test, which her eyes read over, reading the instructions, as well as every question, and checking for any tricks before she filled it out. She'd been given those before, where the ending instruction read something like "don't answer anything", and was cautious not to race through this and give a bad impression. But she did, however, trust that her principal wasn't trying to deceive her. Taking her pen, she began to answer each question one by one, putting thought into her answers but not drawing it out any more than she had to.

Upon completing her personality test, she offered the form she'd filled out back to the principal, feeling herself suddenly grow weak again. What if this test means I'm going to be judged unworthy, she asked herself! a bit unsure. But she'd just written down that she was pretty confident, and quite determined, did she not? Might as well prove it. She smiled a weak smile, but a sincere one, hand raising up so her fingertips could twirl amongst the ends of her bright red locks, listening and watching for some sign from Principal Sash that she'd done well, or at the very least what Pokemon she could choose as a result.

While the student took the test, Maya walked back to her spot by the desk to resume her nap. Sash, meanwhile, waited patiently near Eve for her to finish her test. It seemed that students were often nervous about taking it, though there was really nothing that could go wrong. She was sure that she would feel much happier once she got to choose a Pokemon. That was the principle's favorite part as well. ""Thank you," she said as she took the paper back. Now it was decision time. She usually relied on her gut instinct when reading the answers to the questions, and this time was no different.
"Alright. I will be right back." She turned and walked briskly to her desk, dropping the paper off on a pile when she stopped. Then she headed to the back of the room where the Pokemon were held. She searched until she found the three Pokeballs she had in mind. Carrying them in her arms, she walked back to the new student. "You will be able to choose your first Pokemon from these three." She released each of them from their Pokeballs so that she could examine them. She could not wait to see who she would choose as her new partner!

Eve watched in anticipation, nervousness, and somewhat of a state of fear as the principal watched her, trying to keep her focus on the test. It wasn't too difficult to do, knowing that it was just like when her teachers would give her tests back home in Orre, watching over the class. However this time, it was a class of one. And hey, what was the worst that could happen? She told herself she was already accepted to the school, and finished the sheet rather confidently, although she probably didn't appear it and she knew she wasn't certain her confidence was coming across. But when the principal took the paper, judging it carefully, She simply lowered her eyes, thinking and anticipating what she might get as her starter Pokemon.
Then, Principal Sash told her she'd be right back and went to get the Pokemon for her to choose from. She knew she was to get a choice of three, but she had no idea what to expect, and before long, she watched the principal return To her immediate area with three Pokeballs. One by one, the Pokemon appeared before her and she got her chance to look at them.
The first was an Igglybuff. She knew the Pokemon vaguely, seeing as it was a baby Pokemon and the pre-evolved form of Jigglypuff. It was cute, fluffy, and pink, three characteristics that she liked but that she didn't crave for her starter, even if it would eventually grow into Wigglytuff, assuming she could find the right evolution item! It would certainly be a Pokemon worth raising if she worked with it right, but the concern was held if she even had the wherewithal to get it past the Igglybuff stage, and that scared her.
Next was Sandshrew, a Pokemon she knew rather well despite growing up in the lush, green Agate Village. She had often visited Phenac City, and the journey was through the desert where many of these creatures lived. They could be friendly, but it took some bonding and trust to get them to work with you, as she remembered them as being rather stubborn. This one seemed, of all things, curious, but bold and even confident, and she knew a Sandslash would be a great companion, even if it meant she would have to give up a spot on her Eevee team.
The last Pokemon of the three was one she barely recognized, and even still only by name and type. It was a Vanillite, an ice type. She could imagine an ice type would be quite fun, but she didn't know for sure if it would be a good idea for her to have an ice type that could melt, especially in the warmer climate of the Orre region once she returned home. It was cute and she knew it could grow up to be powerful, but it wasn't the Pokemon for her, and that narrowed it down to two options...
Her eyes bounced back and forth between the adorable pink ball and the confident, strong-looking shrew, and she took a deep breath, picturing herself being a strong trainer and how she would work with each of the two. She realized that she had a best choice in mind, and it was the one she originally said she didn't want, but a fairy type would be so cool, and Wigglytuff was a very strong Pokemon despite its appearance, and would probably still be the snuggly type to keep her company when she felt all alone at school without family there with her. So she knelt down, and held her hand out to her new pink friend.
She looked back up at Principal Sash with a confident look in her eyes. "Principal Sash, I would like the Igglybuff as my Pokemon partner, please." the Sandshrew turned away, almost dejected, but Eve knew she could find a Sandshrew one day if she really decided she couldn't live without. In the mean time, she had her heart set on the fairy type, a rarity back home and perhaps the coolest type to have right now.

Principal Sash waited patiently for the girl to decide. She knew this was an important decision in every trainer's life and one that should not be rushed. It was good to see students who were careful in choosing their first Pokemon, though any one of them would make a fine partner. She smiled when Eve finally gave her an answer. "Igglybuff is a fine choice. Here is its Pokeball."
After the girl took the item offered to her, the principal returned the Sandshrew and Vanillite. "I have one more thing for you." She turned to return the other two Pokemon to where they were kept in storage. While she was there, she picked up a backpack, which contained all the starter items that a new trainer needed. After walking back to the girl, she held this out to her as well. "You're all set now. Good luck at school!"

The debate over which of the three (or rather two, once she narrowed it down within her mind even if the idea of an ice cream cone Pokemon would be adorable) was not one she took lightly. The wrong partner would leave her unfit for her future as a trainer, and if she was unrehearsed she could end up in some dangerous spots that a quick "sing" attack wouldn't get her out of- oh, and she might have to start wearing earplugs to avoid the effects of the move, too, if she picked Igglybuff. But Sandshrew didn't know that sort of move. A quick sand attack and slashing would be her best bet with it, and she wasn't that violent of a person. So she decided to take the fairy, one she could one day be proud to take back home with her to her family.
Upon hearing that her request had been approved, Eve cautiously reached out and took the Pokeball from her principal, smiling more relaxedly, more confidently, and more eagerly now. She knew roughly what her academic schedule was like, and with an Igglybuff at her side, she could determine a practice schedule so the two could bond, train, and become better friends. "Thank you so much, Principal Sash. I can't wait to become best friends with this little one." Her mind was already racing with ideas for what to name the new Igglybuff, which she still needed to figure out the gender of (and was a little embarrassed to ask), and she had taken a step back before the principal handed her a starter pack, probably full of medical supplies in case a battle should go wrong, probably a map in case she got lost, and almost undoubtedly a Pokedex. In addition she could see it came with a bike, which was a little (quite) too big for her bag. But she supposed when she wasn't writing it, she could store it at the foot of her bed or push it with her, depending. "Thank you very much, Principal Sash. I look forward to my studies here." and with that she turned to the door and made her way out.
