Jinx Lyles entered the building that contained the Principal's Office. This was one of the very few buildings he had ever entered. He couldn't even remember the last time he had entered a new, unfamiliar building. It was weird. It was weird being at the academy in general. Why was he here? Part of it was from his growing restlessness of being stuck in that haunted house. Don't get him wrong, he loved his family and all. It was just that there was something inside him that needed more. He needed to explore and see the world. He needed... something. There was something missing in him, but he wasn't sure what it was. He told himself it was simply a need to explore. After all, he had only seen the haunted house, the graveyard, the library, and the rest of that little town he grew up in for the whole eighteen years of his life.
So, he and his family (that is, his ghost family) thought it would be best for him to go to Cherilli Academy. Since he had never traveled alone and had never been anywhere else before, they thought he should go to the academy first in order to ease him into the strange new world. The academy would teach him about Pokemon and other such things, and living there would expose him to a new place. How did he and his family pay for this expensive academy? Well, ha ha, his family had their ways...
Now, this place was supposed to teach him how to be a Pokemon trainer, breeder, nurse, coordinator, healer, psychologist, or researcher. What in the world were those? Apparently, Pokemon trainers trained Pokemon to battle. That sounded so bizarre to him. Why would he tell a Pokemon what to do? And why would he want to battle another Pokemon if it was not harming him in any way? Apparently, it was a whole life goal of some to be the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world and be known as a Pokemon Master. That was just weird. Yet, here he was, in front of the Principal's office in order to get his first Pokemon. His Pokemon. How could a Pokemon be his? Weren't they all free? Weren't they friends and family? Humans were very strange.
Well, he might as well get this over with. Instead of knocking, like a human, he simply twisted the door knob and threw it so that it would open slowly. He smirked at the creaking sound it made. "Boo...oooo...ooo...ooo...." he said as the door opened. He did not think about what he was doing. He simply just acted; it was normal to him.

Vice Principal Turner has been organizing the office since early in the morning. The fall semester was coming to a close, and tat meant there was a lot of work in his future. he wanted to make sure everything was organized so everything could get filed when the new semester began. He and Principal Sash needed to be ready for the rush of new students, after all. The excitement about the academy had been slowing down, and they were not as many new students each semester as before. That was on of the reasons why Sash had decided to take out the summer semester. Besides, it would be good for students to visit their families during summer. Plus, it would give Turner a break from the stress of helping run a school.
He was startled out of his work when he heard the door creak open. He hoped that meant Sash had finally showed up for work. She was the only one allowed to enter without knocking. Maybe she tolerated disrespectful students, but he would have order. He was about to question the presence of the other person when a sound stopped him short, his mouth still partly open. Either he was imagining things... or that was a ghost. Was a student's Haunter playing a trick on him? Then he saw him. It was a student. A student with a scar and strange hair. Turner stood up, his mouth still agape, unsure of how to address this situation.
He finally snapped back to his senses, and his mouth turned down in a frown. "Young man," he said in a harsh voice, "this is no way to address your superiors. You should have knocked first or at least greeted me normally. Since you are obviously new, I will give you a pass this one time, but do not upset me again. I am not to be trifled with." He grabbed a paper form the desk and trudged over to the boy. He stiffly held out the paper to him. "Fill this out, and I will give you your choices for your starter Pokemon." This better not take very long.

Jinx delighted at the reaction of the man in the room. He had been hoping for a scream, but stunned silence worked just as well. He shivered as if a Pokemon had leered or growled at him when the man began to speak harshly towards him. The only harsh reaction he had encountered before, since he rarely interacted with humans, was this old lady at the library. She liked the place super quiet, so whenever Jinx made even a slight noise he was sure to receive a harsh word or two from her. Perhaps it was normal for humans to speak harshly like this. Jinx was not sure how he thought about that. He blinked at the man's words. Normally? Was that not a normal way of greeting someone? It was to him. He had spent his whole life greeting others that way and having that greeting used on him. Apparently, humans did not think that was normal. There must be something wrong with them. The man (was he the principal?) did not elaborate on what a normal greeting was, so he was unsure of how to greet him in the future. Oh, well. He would just have to try something different if he ever came across him again.
He flinched as if he had been threatened or struck when Turner presented a piece of paper in front of him. After realizing he was only being handed paper, he took it and looked down at it. So, this was what he needed to do to get his starter Pokemon. Starter Pokemon. It was still so bizarre to him. He always carried a pen, so he pulled it out and sat down to fill it out. He had never filled out any kind of paper like this before. The only experience he had with paper was the paper in books and paper in the notebooks he wrote in. This was weird. He did not worry about whether or not he had done it correctly; what was done was done. He didn't think it mattered. Therefore, he did not think much at all as he marked down his answers. They were true answers; he just wrote down his answers by instinct, so he finished it really quickly. When he finished it, he handed it to the man he assumed was the principal.

This boy seemed quite odd to Vice Principal Turner. He hoped this would not take long so the kid would leave and the man could get back to work. He did not have time for interuptions like this. Why was Principle Sash never around to deal with the weird students? Thankfully, the guy did finish the test rather quickly. That was a nice change of pace. He roughly grabbed the paper and looked it over. Yes, this was an interesting student indeed. He knew just the Pokemon to choose. Without saying a word, he stalked over to the back of the room, neatly placing the paper on a pile on the desk as he passed. He rummaged through a drawer and pulled out three Pokeballs. Then he grabbed a backpack and headed back to the student. "Choose only one of these three Pokemon," he said gruffly before releasing each one.

Jinx waited for the man to come back, wondering what he was doing. His eyes widened when he released three Pokemon and told him to choose from them. He got to choose his Pokemon? It was crazy enough that he got a Pokemon at all to be his own, but he got to choose it too? That was just... He didn't even know what. Well, that was what he was told to do, so he supposed he ought to do it. Before he had left his family, the Banette who was like his mother told him to obey his authorities, no matter how crazy things they said were. He was entering into a different way of life; that was something he was supposed to remember at all times. Having only experienced a little so far, he could see that was going to be mighty difficult. However, he would obey his mother.
Taking a look at the three Pokemon before him, he was still unsure of what to do. In his mind, he was choosing which one he would experience this new life with. They all had different personalities, no matter their species, but he decided to go with the general personality of that species. He looked at the Chespin. He recognized it from his home-region, Kalos. He had seen plenty of kids walking around with them. He had never really encountered them, though, since he had only seen them with trainers, so he did not know much about them. He looked at the Gastly and Sableye, and a smirk appeared on his face. He had grown up around both of these. They both enjoyed a good prank. The Gastly was a bit more mischievous and spirited in its pranks, in Jinx's opinion. However, the Sableye's quiet way of life made its pranks nearly unpredictable.
How was he supposed to choose from these two? It was like choosing one family member over the other! Jinx crossed his arms as he thought hard. He thought more about each of them and realized that the Sableye might prefer to prank alone most of the time. Plus, he could already picture the potential pranks he and the Gastly could pull together. Yes, this would be great. "I hope to see you around sometime," he said to the Sableye. He would, right? He looked at the Gastly. "I choose you to be my partner and friend in a very satisfying career." He smiled in an almost maniacal way as he thought of all they would do.

Vice Principal Turner thought the boy was taking an awfully long time to decide. Did he not know he had things to do? He crossed his arms and waited impatiently. When the student finally spoke, Turner became incredibly confused. He could understand somewhat the statement to the Sabelye, but what did he mean by career? He was still just a student, and a career was way in the future. It was quite odd, and Turner had to decide to not think about it. He just wanted to be done with this kid already. If he had to come to the office for any reason, he would divert him to Principal Sash. He had not signed up to deal with weirdos. "Good. Here is its Pokeball." He thrust the ball into the boy's hands. Then he returned the remaining Pokemon and stalked to the back of the room. He stashed the Pokeballs in their proper place and then picked out a backpack. After walking back to the student, he held the backpack out to him at arm's length. "This is your starter pack. It has everything you need. Now get out of my sight." He had real business to attend to!

Jinx looked down at the item that was thrust in his hand, an extremely perplexed expression on his face. It's Pokeball? He had vaguely heard of them and had seen them from a distance back in Kalos. It sounded incredibly strange and also cruel. Why would you shove a Pokemon into a tiny space like that? Even if it was comfortable, why would you keep them in there? It was like confining a kid to his room for hours on end. How did they breathe? Or even do fun things in there? No, living in a Pokeball did not sound fun at all. It didn't even seem like an existence. Well, he was given a Pokeball for the Ghastly, but that did not mean he had to use it. He stashed the Pokeball in his pocket for now.
As he waited for who he thought was the principal to come back, he looked at the Ghastly. "So, what's your name?" It shook its head. "You don't have a name?" It shook its head again. That was ridiculous. These humans even prevented Pokemon from having names? The principal came back before he could say anymore. A backpack. He had never had one before. He took it from him and slipped it on his shoulders as he had seen other students do. He blinked at the man's last words. Well. They were clearly not welcome. "Let's go, Ghastly. We'll figure out what your name is outside." He widened his eyes and said, "Boo...oooo...ooooo....ooooo..." as he walked out the door backwards. The Ghastly chuckled creepily at Turner and made some ghost noises as well. Once out the door, Jinx turned around and headed for the exit, smirking. He and the Ghastly were going to get along great!
