January Contest: Appeals

Nate took a deep breath as he waited backstage to go out and give his performance. Part of him wondered why he was still entering these contests. He did not want to be a coordinator, and he was already battling the battle leaders. He did not need any ribbons to graduate. Maybe he wanted to actually make it to the battle round for once. Contest battles seemed fun, and he wanted to have that experience at least once. Plus, being in different kinds of situations would help him get to know his Pokemon better, which would help him as a breeder. This was way he stood backstage with his best casual clothes. When he heard his name called, he moved forward onto the stage.

He stopped near the back of the stage and looked around at everyone with a smile. "Watcher, you're up!" He tossed a Pokeball in the air, and the Eevee appeared before him. Watcher swished his tail with a determined look on his face; he was ready to go. "Use Sand Attack and Tail Whip!" Watcher pushed sand up into the air with his paws. Then he turned and used his tail to push the sand into the air. "Now Swift!" The Eevee now used his tail to fling stars into the air, causing some of them to collide with the sand and sparkle while others continued their journey upward. The performance as similar to his previous one, but he had changed it slightly since he had not won with that routine. He hoped he had made it at least a little bit better.

"Use Quick Attack!" Nate called out. Watcher leapt up onto the stars, using Quick Attack to go higher with them. When he reached the end, he tucked and did a somersault, landing perfectly on his feet. "Baby-Doll Eyes!" The ending he had not changed since he thought it was very effective. Watcher said down and made himself look as cute as possible. Then he stood up and bowed with his trainer. Nate gave a nod at the audience before turning and exiting the stage with his Eevee. He hoped that had been good enough this time.

Kiki was ready for another contest. She had won the first contest but lost the second. She enjoyed performing in them, and she wanted to keep it up even though she would not need the ribbons. She wanted to keep her options open after she graduated. She may have wanted to be a Pokemon healer, but that did not mean she could not do something else for awhile before following her dream. She was dressed in a bright pink dress with a yellow hair ribbon that died her hair back. She thought Nate's performance was quite good. She nodded in approval at him as she passed him to make her way onto the stage. She took a deep breath as she looked around at the crowd. This was it.

"Alright, Alice, it's your time to shine!" She tossed a Pokeball in the air, quickly revealing the Bayleef inside. "Use Razor Leaf followed by Vine Whip!" Alice shot sharp leaves into the air. Then she hit them with her vines, causing them to stop spinning and start to fall. "Magical Leaf!" Smaller leaves emerged this time. The pushed some of the falling leaves up and caused others to go off in different directions. "Now Poison Powder and Reflect!" The Bayleef shot sparkling powder int he air, causing the leaves to glitter. She quickly put up a reflected shield. The leaves and powder bounced off, making it look like they were falling down all around her. Once it was all gone, she took a bow with her trainer. Kiki did not know if she had come up with something original, but she had done her best. She kept this in mind as the two of them exited the stage.

Zoey stepped onto the contest stage, feeling a little nervous but not as much as the first time she had stood in front of a large crowd. Last time, Waffles being around her had made her feel better. After getting to know Flower, her Mudkip, she figured she would help keep her calm just as well. She wore a simple blue dress and had her hair down as normal. She did not think she was really cut out for these contests, she was more of a battler, but she thought it would be an interesting experience. Plus, she really did want to see if she could ever make it to the battle round. It did not matter much to her if she won, but she would still try her best to do as well as possible.

She also really liked to watch the other contestants and learn from them. From what she could tell, though, was that she would need her Pokemon to be at a higher level in order to do any fancy moves. Her strategy and plan for this contest, however, was to show that even Pokemon with few, simple moves could make a beautiful, or at least interesting, performance.

Without saying anything, she took out a Pokeball and tossed it to reveal her Mudkip. "Flower, use Mud-slap!" They had practiced this, so she knew what to do. Flower tossed mud in a pile. Then, she molded it with her paws until it somewhat resembled a flower. It was not perfect, but it was recognizable. She did this until there was a mud flower all around her, evenly spaced out. "Now use Tackle!" She ran into the flowers, following the circle they formed. The mud sprayed in her face, but it also flew up into the air. "Use your fin!" Running as fast as she could, Flower used her tail fin to bat at the mud as it fell down, causing it to break down into tiny pieces of mud. They looked like sparkles almost. Dark sparkles, but sparkles nonetheless. Zoey thought it looked pretty cool. When the performance was finished, Zoey and Flower both bowed together before exiting the stage. Though Flower preferred battles, Zoey could tell that they both had enjoyed that, despite what the outcome may be.

Faith had been training for months for this next contest. She decided to use her Kecleon, Ziggy. He had served her well in previous battles, and she wanted to see how he would perform in a contest. His power of invisibility would be helpful for her. She had devised the best combinations that she could with his various attacks. Today, she was dressed in a midnight blue dress with a sparkling silver necklace. She had her hair done up in a bun with two strands falling down on each side. She had already won one contest, and she knew she could win this one as well. she confidently strode onto the stage, stopping in the middle.

"Ziggy, it's your time to shine!" Faith tossed a Pokeball in the air. A Keckleon appeared, did a flip in the air, and landed on his feet, where upon he immediately turned invisible. A smile twitched on the edge of the coordinator's lips. "Use Ancient Power followed by Synchronoise!" Only a red zig-zag stripe showed up to the audience. Above the straight, a black ball of energy formed. The ball was thrown up high and exploded in the sky. Then odd wave forms emanated from the stripe, causing the falling pieces of energy to move in weird patters.

Faith smiled, pleased with the performance so far. Now it was time for the big finish. "Reveal! Now Tail Whip and Lick!" Suddenly, the Kecleon became visible again. He bent down low and moved his tail back and forth in a cute fashion. Then he stuck out his tongue and, touching the tip to the floor, he propelled himself into the air. He did a somersault with is tail moving and his tongue wrapped around himself. He landed on his feet, his tongue now inside his mouth and his tail still. He took a bow along with his trainer. Faith was pleased with how that had turned out. She thought Ziggy had displayed the best of all his various talents. As the two of them walked off the stage, she wondered if it had been enough to impress the judges.

Zane had decided to enter the January Contest at the spur of the moment. He had not been at the academy long and he had little interest in contests, but he was always up for new challenges. Tessie had seemed excited at the idea, so he thought he would give it a try. Despite his lack of skills in this area, his Pichu was so cute that they thought they would have a good shot at this. When his name was called, he walked out onto the stage in his normal clothes. He grinned at the audience before taking out a Pokeball and tossing it in the air. "Come on out, Tessie!" The Pichu did a little spin in the air before landing on the ground and striking a cute pose.

"Let's start off with Volt Tackle!" Zane called. he thought this attack was totally awesome and would look cool in a contest. Tessie started running on all fours. As she ran, electricity began to build around her. She then started to run in a circle. She was engulfed in yellow, and bolts of electricity occasionally flew from her. Zane smiled. "Now Thunder Shock!" Tessie stood straight up and sent bolts of electricity up into the air. They flew everywhere, blending with the fading electricity from the Volt Tackle. "Finish with Charm." Tessie winked and blew pink hearts all around her. She then smiled and bowed with her trainer. Well, Zane at least thought his Pokemon had been quite adorable. He hoped the judges agreed.
