Micah had only been at the Academy a few days, so he hadn't had the opportunity to explore yet. It'd been a busy few days, receiving his Trapinch and being given his Vulpix. They were a handful, those two, despite the fact that he had grown up around Pokemon. He just had never had his own to take care of, and it was a little taxing.
But now things had settled down, and Micah was content to go exploring. He thought about staying strictly in the city, but he was more in the mood for nature. The woods called to him, and he couldn't say no.
Micah had both Pokemon released from their respective Pokeballs, thinking it was best for them to get to know him and know each other. They both seemed to like him, but he couldn't tell how they felt about each other. They bickered good-naturedly on their walk, his rather feisty Vulpix trying to engage the more zen Trapinch in some sort of game. His Trapinch, however, seemed to content to walk alongside Micah who was slowly meandering along and taking in the sights.
Apparently, though, that wouldn't do for his Vulpix. Without warning, she darted off of the path and into the woods. "Vixen," he shouted as Thresh called out <Where are you going?> Neither of them received a response. Micah glanced down at his Trapinch and shrugged as he took a hesitant step off the path in the direction his Vulpix had taken. He started searching for Vixen while keeping both the path and his Trapinch in sight.

Deep in the forest, a Zangoose patrolled around its territory. It was looking for some nice berries to eat as well as making sure no riff raff were intruding. He really didn't like it when there were intruders. At one time he didn't mind, he just ignored them, but they always caused a ruckus! It got so bad that he had to chase all of them off. They only annoyed him and harmed the Pokemon living in the forest. Plus, they disturbed him when he was trying to go for a peaceful walk or sleep.
There were some lovely blue colored berries in some bushes nearby, so he stopped and went over to take a look. The sound of feet moving across the forest floor caused him to look back. It was just a Vulpix. He didn't remember any Vulpix living near there. Frowning, he abandoned his berries to head in the direction where she had come. Just as he had guessed, he soon found a trainer and another Pokemon. Angry, he glared at them. <What are you doing here!? Go away!> If they wanted a fight, he would fight!

Micah wouldn't admit to being nervous, but he was seconds away from a complete and total freak out. He'd only had Pokemon for a couple of days, and he already lost one of them. Not just that, but the one he lost was rather inexperienced. He wasn't sure how long his Vulpix could survive in the forest, especially if she ended up getting pestered by the wild Pokemon that inhabited it. Both Micah and the Trapinch at his side were calling constantly for the Vulpix as they continued looking for her. A rustling nearby had Pokemon and trainer stopping in harmony and searching for the source of the noise. Micah watched as a Zangoose appeared, a rather unfriendly looking Pokemon based on first impressions and how rude it was. "I'm just looking for my Vulpix," he said with a calm that he wasn't quite feeling. "Just tell us where she went and we'll be out of your hair. Or. Or." Or what? <Or we'll beat the information out of you> Thresh said as he stepped in front of his trainer in a protective stance. Micah was surprised at the aggressiveness displayed by his normally calm Trapinch, but he supposed it made sense. The Trapinch and Vulpix might not have known each other very long, but they had bonded and became friends. He was sure Thresh was just as worried about Vixen as he was. "Yeah, we'll beat it out of you," Micah echoed his Pokemon with aggression that he didn't normally possess. Was he about to get into his first Pokemon battle? Hmm. What moves did his Trapinch even know? "Just be ready," he whispered to the Trapinch. The Zangoose frowned at the trainer and Trapinch. They weren't leaving. Usually, trainers got scared and ran off. He had to admire this one's bravery and guts, but he still did not like him trespassing. <This is my territory, so you can't be here,> he growled. <If your Vulpix ran off, then it's probably for a good reason. If it just got lost, then too bad. You still can't stay on my territory!> Since they refused to be intimidated, he would have to resort to attacking. He was great at defending his territory. Beat it out of him? That made him laugh! Bearing his teeth, he moved forward and swiped his long claws at the Trapinch. "It's a free world. I can go wherever I want without your permission," he countered in a childish manner. Honestly, it was amazing that he didn't cross his arms over his chest or stomped his foot or stuck his tongue out. His expression turned slightly sheepish when the Zangoose implied that Vixen had run off for a reason. He knew better, but it still hurt since he had lost her so soon after receiving her. He knew, in his heart, that she had just wanted to play and explore, but it was hard to accept that the opposing Pokemon thought that he was so bad of a trainer that his Vulpix would run away. And then the Zangoose was attacking. "Thresh, do-" Oh, that was fast. Micah hadn't even had time to tell his Trapinch to dodge. Man, maybe Micah was that bad of a trainer. "You okay, buddy?" he asked, hoping the answer was that the Trapinch was fine. After all, the attack didn't seem too bad in comparison to the seemingly thick skin of the Trapinch. <Fine. It'll take more than that to hurt me> Thresh responded, though he shook his head (where the attack hit) for a second as though it would simply shake off whatever pain might be lingering from the attack. Um. Right. Micah should probably try to attack now, right? "Thresh, attack." What were the attacks, again? "Uh. Superpower?" It probably shouldn't have sounded like a question, but Micah wasn't sure. That was one of his Pokemon's moves, yeah? Well, it certainly seemed to be as the Trapinch started glowing blue before it went after the Zangoose. Hmm. That meant it was working, right? Hopefully the Zangoose wasn't so fast as to get away. That would be a total bummer. The Zangoose smirked when he was successful in marking up Thresh. This was going to be easy. The little Trapinch was too weak; he would be running scared in no time. Then he was hit. It had been too fast for him to dodge, and it was powerful! Wow. Shaking his head, he gained his composure again. <You wanna play like that, huh? Alright.> He narrowed his eyes, giving him a menacing Leer. Then, he lunged towards him with such great speed that he was almost invisible.

Micah watched as his glowing Trapinch made contact with the Zangoose. It looked strong. At least, it looked strong to him. With a move called 'superpower' it should be strong. Superheroes had superpowers, and all the superheroes he'd ever heard about were super strong. Obviously that meant his Trapinch had to be equally strong. "Yeah, way to go, Thresh," he cheered, beaming at the Pokemon. He watched the Zangoose to see what it would do, surprised that it was still standing after a hit like that. The opposing Pokemon had to be crazy strong, too. Micah couldn't tell what it was doing, and then it was suddenly attacking again. Once more, Micah didn't even have time to tell his Trapinch to dodge before it was under attack. Thresh, on the other hand, was completely ready. <Bring it on, punk> he replied to the taunt, ready to move. Only, the look it was giving him (not so much menacing in his mind, but more weird than anything else) had him letting his guard down. Before he knew it, he was hit in the side with the force that had him sliding across the forest floor a couple of steps. He panted as he waited for his trainer to give him another order. "Shake it Thresh! You got this," Micah encouraged as he thought of a move. "Chomp!" Thresh's head tilted to the side at the order, and Micah looked quite sheepish when he realized that it wasn't quite right. "I mean bite!" After be given an actual attack to use, Thresh went after the Zangoose in hopes of biting its strong jaws down on some part of the opposing Pokemon. The Zangoose spun around to face Thresh after he succeeded in his attack, knowing that he should never let his guard down. The trainer's call to have the Pokemon use Chomp confused, him though. He did not think that was a correct move, and that caused him to stand there, thinking about it. <Ah!> he roared when Thresh crashed down on him. It was time for his own move. Seeing as how he was right there beside him within easy reach, the Zangoose struck out his long, sharp claws again to rake them against the intruder. Take that!

Thresh was quite proud of himself when his jaws clamped down on the Zangoose he was battling. This whole fighting thing wasn't as hard as he thought it might be, even though this was the first one for both him and his trainer. They were doing quite well, if he did say so himself. Well, except for the fact that Micah wasn't quite sure about what moves he could do. That was alright, though, because they could learn together. However, despite how well they were doing, he was still taking quite a beating. The battling thing was fun, but taxing. He was going to need a rest after this. Maybe he'd even make Micah carry him back in his pokeball instead of walking all the way back where they came from. It shouldn't be too long now, since the Zangoose they were fighting seemed to be taking just as many hits than he was. Lost in his own thoughts about what he would do after the battle, he missed the Zangoose even moving to scratch him. It hit his face again, making him unlock the bite he had on Zangoose with a whiny <Owww>. Micah, too, thought they were doing well. They'd have that Zangoose talking and telling him where his Vulpix had run off to in no time at all. Thresh's whine had him snapping back to attention and thinking about the battle instead of his Vulpix. "Shake it off, buddy. And use sand attack." he called out with determination. Thresh listened and backed away enough to kick up sand in the general direction of the Zangoose. And then, for good measure, he reared up onto his hind legs and came down, hoping to create a fissure. It wasn't often that he would take matters into his own hands, but he wasn't sure his trainer knew he could even do that. Thresh just hoped that one of those attacks at least managed to slow down the Zangoose so that he could land a finishing blow. Micah just gaped at Thresh as he tried to use fissure. What in the world was that? The Zangoose felt satisfied when the Trapinch let go with a whine. He would win this. He looked at the Pokemon with a determined look as he waited for his next attack. It was Sand Attack. He was unable to escape the sand from hitting him, and soon he had his eyes closed because of it. Since he could not see, he unsuccessfully tried to avoid falling into the fissure the Trapinch created in the ground. <Ah!> he cried as he fell, scraping his claws against any part of the ground he could as he did so. He felt pain when he landed, but he still had some energy left. He used his hands to scrape the rest of the sand away from his eyes, and he looked up at the Trapinch through sharp, intimidating, narrow eyes.

That. Was. Awesome! Micah, of course, had absolutely no idea what that move that Thresh had pulled was, but the huge crack in the ground looked crazy cool. He was going to have to look that up later so he could use it in a battle again. "Nice job, Thresh," he shouted as the Zangoose fell into the fissure. No way they were losing this, NO WAY! Thresh was tearing it up out there, and he wasn't doing all that bad, either. Micah was, however, a little concerned for the opposing Pokemon. A fall like that couldn't have been pleasant, and he needed the information on which way direction his Vulpix had run off in. He started to move in the direction the Zangoose had fallen, but then it was glaring at his Trapinch. <Take that> the normally calm Trapinch called to the Zangoose after both of his attacks landed. It wasn't his fault; battling to gain information on his friend had just brought out a whole different side to him. The leer he was getting had him pausing again, and it took Micah shouting out a move to get him into attack. "You got this! Superpower again!" Micah yelled enthusiastically, thinking that it had been one of the most effective attacks his Trapinch had pulled off so far. Thresh started glowing blue again and charged at the Zangoose for hopefully the last time. Once the aura around him faded, he asked the Pokemon he was battling, <Now where did the Vulpix go?> Level: 5 Attacks: Fissure, Superpower, Feint, Bite, Sand Attack Abilities: Hyper Cutter, Arena Trap, Sheer Force Hit By: Leer Used: Superpower Health: Low Yellow

The Zangoose's eyes widened as the Trapinch headed for him at near lightning speed again. He did not have the time nor space to dodge. The collision hurt really bad. He was pushed backwards from the force and landed hard on his back. <Oww...> he groaned. How could he have been beaten? It made no sense... <Wha...?> Where was the Vulpix? Right... <Tha...that way,> he managed to get out, pointing with a claw towards the way he had come where the bushes and trees were thickest. His arm fell down to his side, and, not having enough strength to hold on any longer, he fell into deep unconsciousness, feeling extremely exhausted. Oh, man. Micah was on the verge of winning its first Pokemon battle! Sure, it was against a rude, wild thing and not another trainer, but he still thought that it was quite impressive of him if he did say so himself. That Zangoose had seemed super tough. With the right trainer - one that can snap the rudeness out of it - it could be quite a welcome addition to the team.
"Yeah, nice job, Thresh," he cheered on, reaching for one of his spare Pokeballs. It was worth a shot to see if he could capture his first Pokemon in addition to winning his first battle. Plus, the Zangoose was certainly a fighter. He could appreciate the refusal to quit. He glanced down at his Trapinch and saw Thresh nodding, as though to agree, so Micah tossed the Pokeball at the Zangoose.
Meanwhile, not too far away, Vixen the Vulpix was getting quite lonely. Why hadn't Micah and Thresh come looking for her? Before she had too much time to think about that, she heard the sounds of a battle raging that might be Thresh and Micah. What if they were in trouble because they had gone looking for her? That wouldn't be good. She immediately turned to go and assist them, but she found herself getting caught in some thorny bush in the forest. It probably would have been a pretty bush when it was spring or summertime and the bush was in bloom, but now it just hurt.
<OW> the Vulpix cried. <MICAH!> She hoped her trainer got there soon because she might be stuck.
Micah heard his Vulpix, immediately worried. He returned his Trapinch to its pokeball so he could move faster, and by then enough time had passed to see what would happen with the Zangoose. Micah then took off in a run as fast as he could to go see what was wrong with Vixen.

Micah was quite proud of himself for having managed to catch his first Pokemon. In time, he was sure that the Zangoose would be quite the addition to his team. He would have stuck around and done some sort of nerdy victory dance, but the crying of his Vulpix had him moving on instinct. He grabbed the pokeball that now housed his Zangoose and put it on his belt before running off to find what had happened to his Vulpix.
<MICAH! MICAH!> Vixen continued to shout, the noise loud in the rather quiet forest. Eventually, she heard the sound of footsteps and looked eagerly in the direction that they were coming from. <Micah!> she said, sounding more relieved than urgent when she saw that it was, in fact, her trainer.
Micah found the source of the noise and gave Vixen an incredulous look. "How did you even?" he asked, more to himself that his vulpix. "I got you, girl. Just calm down," he muttered soothingly as he reached into the thorny bush. His own hands were getting cut up, and Vixen whimpered from time to time when a thorn cut into her. After a few minutes, he was able to extract the vulpix whose whimpering had turned into a constant noise.
"You're okay, girl," he repeated over and over as soothingly as possible as the Vulpix slowly calmed down. He pet over whatever uninjured parts of fur he could find, but there wasn't much that wasn't cut. Between her, Thresh, and his new Zangoose, his Pokemon weren't in the best of shape. It looked like now was a good time to end exploring and get them to a Pokemon center to get them checked out.
