OOC: This is for Gary and Sawyer's battle. Gary will post first and will have the first move.
IC: It was finally time for the final round in the fall tournament. Once again, Sawyer was in the battle. However, her opponent was Gary instead of Paul. Both trainers had won close battles and had shown exceptional skill, so Principal Sash was sure this battle was going to be something to remember. She stood off to the side with Maya while she waited for everyone to show up. Once it was time, she walked onto the battlefield with microphone in hand and Vulpix by her side. "Hello, folks!" she boomed. "Welcome to the final round of the all tournament! Today, a champion will be decided. Please welcome Gary from Kanto and Sawyer from Sinnoh!" Neither team had won a championship so far, so it would be exciting no matter what happened. Sash smiled as she walked back to her seat, Maya following her with her head held high. |

Gary was ready for this. He and his newly evolved Wartortle had trained hard for this very moment. They were ready to win the fall tournament and bring a championship home to Kanto. It had been a long and difficult road, but they were finally reaching the end. As long as they worked together, he knew that there was nothing that could stop them. He confidently strode out onto the battlefield and took his place. Then he pulled out a Pokeball, kissing it before releasing the creature inside. "Let's go, Skipper!" The strong Wartortle soon appeared, seeming as confident and pumped up as his trainer. They were in this together. Sawyer was proud to be in the tournament finals once again. All of her tournament battles had been very close, including the last tournemnt final that she had lost to Paul. She was sure this one was going to be no different. She was going to try her hadest to win for herself, her Pokemon, and her team. She recognized Gary as she walked out into the Battle Area. He seemed like he would be a tough opponent. It was going to be hard to beat that Wartortle since she was planning on using a fire type, but type advantage did not decide a battle. "Kopa, let's go!" She tossed a Pokeball in the air, and her Litleo appeared in a flash of light. The lion cub growled and arched his back as he looked over at the Wartortle. It was time to win. Gary's eyes fell on Sawyer as she entered the Battle Area. He had met her several times in the past, and he liked her well-enough. He had never seen her battle, but she must be pretty tough if she made it all the way to the final round of the tournament. Despite the fact that she was using a fire type, he was not going to take her lightly. He knew Litleo preformed well when they were up against tough opponents. "Don't think this is going to be easy, Skipper," he warned his Pokemon. It was time to test out their speed and defenses so he could form a strategy from there. "Let's start off with Water Gun!"
Skipper eyed the Litleo now standing before him. He should have the advantage because water was great against fire, but he would listen to his trainer's advice and not take that for granted. <Read?> he challenged. This was going to be fun. Standing in place, he shot out a stream of water at his opponent. If that hit, it was going to hurt! Sawyer was glad that Gary was taking her and her Litleo seriously. No, they would not be going down easily. Kopa was fast, and that would be a problem for their opponent even though he had super effective attacks. "Kopa, dodge that and use Fire Spin!" Even though Fire Spin might not be the most effective attack, guaranteeing damage for several rounds was significant. "Now use Work Up!" She was already busy planning her next move.
Kopa could feel his mane growing in strength from facing off against a tough opponent. <Yes. Bring it on.> This was going to be an excellent battle. he was looking forward to working hard in order to win. He leapt to the side when the Water Gun came his way. Then he blew out spiraling fire that would encircle the Wartortle. When he was finished, he worked himself up so his next attack would be even stronger. Gary had been right about that Litleo. He was a fast one. It would be difficult to get close enoguh to attack. That Fire Spin was a good idea. It did not do much damage initially, but it was going to add up. The trainer decided to hold off on a water attack for now. If he used something else, he might have a better chance of getting some damage in, which was what he needed right now. "Alright, Skipper, use Tackle!"
Skipper was disappointed that his Water Gun did not work. It would have been really powerful if it had! Oh well. He watched as fire encircled him. It did not hurt that much, but he still did not like that. He wa going to get that little cub now! While the Litleo was using Work Up, he ran forward on all fours to Tackle him. Sawyer was pleased that her Litleo was able to dodge. If they could keep this up, then they had a good chance of winning. Unfortunately, there was not much time to dodge Tackle. "Headbutt!" The best way to overcome reciving damage was to hand out more damage yourself. Her next move was already in her mind.
Kopa could feel power flowing through him after using Work Up. His next attack was going to be great! He fell over from the Wartortle's Tackle, but it was nothing he could not handle. He sprang to his feet and prepared for his next move. He lowered his head and ran forward to ram into his opponent. "Withdraw!" Gary called. He was impressed with the little Litleo so far. The Headbutt hit its mark, and it looked like his Wartortle was wearing down faster. All of this would change if he got a water attack in. He decided to use his secret weapon later ans stick with the basics for now. "Use Water Gun!" He hoped it would work this time.
Skipper got into his shell as soon as he heard his trainer's voice. He was thrown back hard by the Headbutt, but it would have been a lot worse if he had not had his protective shell. He could not believe how much damage the fire type was doing to him. it was almost embarrassing. As soon as he was sure the attack was over, he jumped out of his shell and aimed a Water Gun at the Litleo. Sawyer watched as the Wartortle hid inside his shell. That was quite unfortunate. It was going to be hard to get around that. Any physical attack would be mostly deflected. She was going to have to try a fire type move. Even though it would do less damage, it was more likely to hit the Wartortle at maximum strength. She gritted her teeth when Kopa was hit by a water attack. She hoped Gary did not have a stronger attack up his sleeve. "Use Leer and Ember!"
Kopa hit into a shell and full back from the force of it. He slowly stood up and blinked in confusion. He was hiding? <Coward,> he growled. He wished he would come out and face him like a real Pokemon. Then he did come out, but he was shooting water at the Litleo! Kopa was flown back from the attack. He could feel his power weakening, and this made him mad. He leered at the Wartortle in anger. Then he opened his mouth and spat out fire balls at him. Gary could see what Sawyer was up to. Since Withdraw would not be very helpful in this situation, he decided to try an offensive strategy. "Skipper, run into the Ember and use Bite!" The Ember would not hurt him all that much, and it was going to be difficult for the Litleo to avoid the dark attack. After the two of them were close together, he could use another water move.
Skipper braced himself for the oncoming fire. He ran forward on all fours while the fire balls hit him. They hurt, but they were nothing he could not handle. He could beat that fire type! When he got close to the lion, he stopped and opened his jaws to clamp down on him. It was not a water attack, but it was still bound to be pretty effective. He could not wait until he was asked to use his secret weapon! Sawyer was surprised that Gary chose to have his Pokemon run right through the Ember. Sure, the attack would not do that much damage, but he still risked being burned. She watched as the Wartortle managed to cling to her Litleo. She had to do something to shake him off. "Use Ember!" A direct hit should be effective against even a water type. This was a tough battle.
Kopa kept up the Ember attack even as the Wartortle ran right for him. As soon as he stopped, strong jaws clamped around his body. He clenched his teeth to prevent himself from crying out. He could take this! He attempted to twist his head to get a good view of his opponent and then let loose another Ember attack. He hoped that would do it! Gary was glad that Skipper managed to get a hold of the Litleo. "Hang in there," he said. If the water type could endure this move, then he could put his plan into action. The Wartortle appeared worn down, but he could still see determination in his eyes. Good. "Now use Muddy Water!" Since the two Pokemon were already close together, the attack would surely hit. He hoped this would be enough to secure victory. Even a strong Litleo would not be able to withstand it, right?
Skipper held on tightly to the Litleo. His trainer had not told him to let go, so he would keep on biting. He winced when flames hit him yet again but did not loosen his grip. He hid a smirk when Gary called out the next attack. Finally. He knew he would have to act quickly. He let go of the Litleo and moved back a little. Then he swept up water with his claws, flinging it directly at his opponent. Sawyer's eyes widened in shock at what happened next. She did not know that Wartortle knew such a powerful water move. She really needed to study her opponents before she battled them. Luckily, her Litleo was still standing. She knew she probably only had one last move, so she was going to make it count. "hang in there, Kopa. You're strong enough for this. Use Leer and Headbutt!" She did not know if this would be enough, but she did know they were not going down without a fight.
Kopa was relieved when he felt the pressure lifted. However, he soon found himself missing the Bite attack. He was now drenched in water, which shrunk his fire powers considerably. She shivered even though it was not that cold out. He could barely stand, but he did have some strength left. He easily leered at the big turtle. He had it coming now. He ran forward with all of his might, his head lowered to strike. Gary was disappointed that the attack had not finished off the Litleo. However, it had done a quite a bit of damage, and it looked like one more attack would do it. He just had to make sure is own Pokemon was left standing. "Quick, Withrdaw!" That was the best way of saving him. "Now Water Gun!" He hoped this would do it. If not, he could be in for quite a bit of trouble. He was impressed with the way the fire type was holding up against his water type so far.
Skipper watched to see if the Litleo would stand again. When he did, he prepared to defend himself. He was also getting pretty tired, after all. This was a tough battle. He would feel proud if he won even though his opponent was a fie type. He got inside his shell at his trainer's command. He was moved back by the attack, and his body shook inside the shell. He did not let this distract him as he popped out and shot his Water Gun at the lion. Kopa slammed into a shell again. The collision almost called him to collapse with exhaustion. Panting heavily, he looked up just in time to see water coming toward him. He had not time to dodge. Right after the attack hit, he fell to the ground and did not get up.
Sawyer watched in dismay as her Pokemon fainted. They had been so close... At least they had tried their hardest and had almost won even though they had started at a disadvantage. She smiled sadly as she took out a Pokeball. "You were amazing, Kopa. Take a long rest." She looked over at Gary and nodded in acknowledgment. "Congratulations. That was a great battle." She had learned a lot. She turned to walk out of the Battle Area. She knew she would win next time for sure!
