It would be a rather nice afternoon as a certain new student walked down the hallway, straightening the jacket that he normally wore out of nervousness as he tried to make his nerves go away. It seemed that the years of working in his parents shop had finally paid off, now he was going to a prestigious academy that he never could have dreamed of attending before. It almost felt like a dream, but now it finally had just hit how real the situation really was. What's more, he was finally getting a Pokemon! The prospect made him all happy yet at the same time incredibly afraid that somehow he would get a bad match and they would end up hating eachother. Blinking hard and shaking his head to rid himself of the bad thoughts he would steel his nerves and allow an impassive look to come over his face as he knocked three loud knocks into the principals door, preferring to gain permission before barging into the room.

Principal Sash was typing away on her computer at her desk getting some work done since it was the beginning of the semester. It was not fun, but it had to be done. She was relieved when she heard a knock on the door. She hoped it was a new student! They were so fun. Just in case, she grabbed a sheet of paper from her desk as she strolled over to the door. She opened the door and smiled at the person she saw. "Hi! Welcome to Cherilli Academy. I'm Principal Sash. You're a new student, I presume? Please fill this out." She held out the paper to him. Once he answered the questions on the test, she would be able to offer him a Pokemon.

After knocking on the door it would soon open, revealing the woman who ran the entire Cherilli Academy who seemed to be rather relieved to see him for some reason. Taking a quick glance behind her and noting all the paperwork he would accept that it was likely starting semester administration troubles and would decide not to delve too deep into it. "Hi Ms.Sash." No Makussu, don't greet her to Koutaishi Relics. You're not in Lumiose City anymore. "Yes, I am a new student to Cherilli Academy." Taking the paper with a polite "Thank you." He would whip out a pen that he had thought to bring out of his pocket and with a cursory glance at the paper would fill out the questions, not really thinking about how each of his answers would impact his end result. Eventually finishing the quiz he would hand it gently back to his principal, quietly awaiting the results to his answers. Oh, what would his partner be? 1. You enjoy taking walks. B 2. Principal Sash waited patiently as the student filled out the test. So far, she got a good impression of him. She could not wait to see which Pokemon she could offer him. Soon enough, she got the chance. Her expert eyes scanned the paper, images of Pokemon popping up in her mind as she did so. "Very well," she said, placing the paper back on her desk, "I will be right back." With that, she headed to the far end of the room. She rummaged in a drawer for a minute before pulling out three Pokeballs. She then returned to the student with these items in hand. "Alright, you may choose from these three." Then she released the Pokemon.

Makussu would fidget nervously as his new principal read through his paper and basically read his entire personality, habits and dislikes like a book and force himself to stand strong, there was no reason for him to be ashamed for his answers. He was sure that she had received much weirder ones in the past so what was the point in worrying. As she left the room Makussu would let a deep sigh, letting the air escape from his lungs and his back to slouch slightly and his face muscles to relax into a slight frown. He didn't hate being around people, but it wasn't only just a new place and an entirely new school, that was about enough to give anyone the heeby-jeebies. As he heard the footsteps of Sash coming back Makussu would straighten up again and brush his hands down his jacket, brushing off the imaginary dust and blowing a few long strands of hair out of his face and an impassive expression coming over his face as she pulled out her pokèballs and released their inhabitants.
The moment of truth.
At first his eyes would be drawn to the Sandshrew, it's bright coloration making it stick out the most of the trio that had just appeared in a flash of red light. It fidgeted slightly, lifted it's foot and scratched itself behind it's ear. Crouching down to it's level he would look it straight in it's pitch black eyes, seeing nothing but his own reflection and not a hint of recognition as the rodent turned around and simply sat down. Alright, it seems that made one down, two to go.
The next one he would turn to would be the Lotad, doing a slightly embarrassing crabwalk/ turn to look at it. In all honesty while the thing looked rather cute one only needed a single glance to understand it's level of intelligence, uncomprehending black and white orbs staring at him in a blank way before letting a long and low "Taaaaaad" out of it's mouth, slowly moving away on stubby legs towards the Sandshrew which barely acknowledged it as the blue and creature creature settled down next to it.
And then there was one. The most darkly colored of the three, this one he could easily recognize as an Espurr, a popular pet pokèmon back home in Kalos. Most of them ended up not being too bright despite their psychic heritage, or at least in his opinion they weren't, likely due to the doting of their owners constantly over the poor things. But this one was different. It wasn't the fur that won him over, though as he lightly stroked it he couldn't believe it's softness, but it was what he saw in it's eyes.
Those beautiful, yet haunted eyes.
In those eyes he saw a deep sadness, one that screamed of loss and perhaps a dash of long lost despair and a lonely look in it's purple spheres that sat embedded inside the cat's skull. Yet at the same time they told of a story of love and happiness, of a joyful pokèmon that simply would always be there for you just waiting below the surface. A surface he knew he could breach. And then, Espurr looked into his eyes just the same, her eyes assaulted by insecurity, nervousness, barely contained anger, all of the bad things you could find in a human all within those glassy eyes that it looked into. Yet at the same time, all the good of humanity flowed from them as well, kindness, caring and joy all expressing themselves at once with one single glance. They couldn't comprehend how it happened, but in those short seconds it was if they had communicated their entire life stories to each other.
Espurr couldn't unsee. Nor could Makussu, for that matter.
Suddenly in a rather Pyroar King he would lift the psychic cat into the air, causing it to let out a startled "Purr?!?" as he stared up into it's purple fur for a good ten seconds before realizing exactly what he was doing. Suddenly standing up straight with Espurr cradled in his arms he would scratch his head sheepishly before acknowledging his Principal who he seemed to have accidentally ignored. "So sorry Ms.Sash, I think I got a little too into the moment. I think that Espurr and I have decided to travel with each other." He would turn to the two pokemon who were still huddled in a corner. "Sorry you two, it's not you it's me. I'm sure you'll both get great trainers." He would turn back to his Principal barely containing his hidden excitement about the whole ordeal, awaiting his response.

Principal Sash observed the student as he examined the Pokemon. He seemed to be thinking about this very hard. It was good to be thorough in accessing who would be a good partner. Then he was suddenly staring at the Espurr. She could not tell what either was thinking, but it seemed that the two had a connection. She smiled when it became obvious that this was the one he had chosen. "Good choice. Here is its Pokeball." She held the ball out to him so he could return the Pokemon when he pleased. "Now I just have one more thing for you." She returned the Sandshrew and Lotad to their own Pokeballs and carried them to the back of the room. After placing them in the drawing, she dug through a closet until she took hold of a backpack. She took the bag over to Makussu and held it out to him. "This is your starter pack. now you are all set!" Makussu would still be overwhelmed with joy at his current situation and the fact that he actually had pokemon, to the point that he had to make a physical effort to not squeeze the little creature to death in-between his arms. The little cat seemed to take some sort of interest in his jacket as he took Espurr's pokeball and pocketed it, the small creature tugging at the golden buttons that held it together when needed, apparently taking some sort of liking to the shiny objects. As Sash would leave the room the little creature would suddenly decide that it could find a more comfortable place, gripping on tight to the jacket it hoisted itself up onto it's shoulder before securing it in place by wrapping it's paw around his neck so it held tight even if Makussu were to move, although not to the point that it was uncomfortable for the trainer. "Purr." The cat said blankly to the trainer, as if to dare him to protest the current arrangements. At that Makussu would merely shrug, causing the cat to almost lose its balance as the shift in it's sitting despite it's hold. "Don't worry Espurr, I don't mind." he would merely state to the cat as Sash would come back with a backpack chock full of useful things, he himself grabbing the strap and slinging it over the arm Espurr wasn't sitting on. "Erm, thank you Principal!" he would say as he moved towards the door. "I"ll take my leave now. It was nice meeting you!" he would say as he opened the door, the Espurr on his shoulder waving bye with it's paw as if to emphasize it. Closing the door gently behind him, he would awkwardly look at his pokemon to decide something that needed to be decided. "Alright Espurr, I believe it's time you got a name. Any ideas?" He would walk for a bit in silence through the halls, laughing at himself a bit for asking his pokemon for advice before hearing a "It's Umia." from some unknown voice. Jumping slightly and causing Espurr to need to cling to his arm to not fall off it would give him a dirty look as it climbed back up, giving an indignant "Es!" to escape from its mouth. That was definitely weird. Since when do pokemon talk? Shaking his head and dismissing it as his own nerves, he would decide to maybe use it. "How about Umia? Would you like that name, Espurr?" A moment of shock passed over the cat's face before disappearing just as quickly. Giving a resolute nod back it would get a "Alright. Umia it is." as a response and as a duo they would walk off, ready for new journeys and adventures to unfold before them.
