Red entered the lounge, his hair and cap slightly damp from the weather outside. It'd just begun to drizzle and while he didn't mind the water, Red didn't really want to get soaked at this stage. Sure, he'd dived into dragontie-infested waters and sure, he's fought the masked man and even fought a giant Kyogre, but right now he just wanted to relax. And that was hard for someone like him who's been in so many life-threatening situations. He actually smiled a bit thinking about it. Wow, had Blue been a jerk in the past. HE'D been a jerk in the past. That was a long time ago... He stopped thinking about the past, as it made him remember the Pokemon he'd left behind. He took off his cap and shook his head, a bit like dogs do. Water sprayed everywhere when he did. He put his cap back on and threw himself onto the couch. Spotting the gaming console, he switched it on and began to play. What can he say, sometimes video games keep your mind off stuff.

Noelle, quite exasperated, sighed as she entered the water building. She hated the rain more than any other weather pattern, and was looking around for a place to shelter herself. Her first day in the academy was starting… below average, to say the least, as rain had always been a bad omen for Noelle. At the very least, she did manage to find a place to stay. Walking down a small, empty corridor, her steps making dull, clopping noises as she walked, she took a sudden stop as she found a sign that caught her attention.
“A lounge, huh?” Noelle tilted her head as she peeked through the window. Perhaps her luck was about to turn around, and she’d finally get to relax. She pushed the door slowly, the noise of her shoes muffled completely by the soft carpet encompassing the entire floor. To Noelle, this place was simply amazing, and looked around at the lounge’s amenities in awe, there was a nearby boy, the only one in the lounge at the time, playing a video game. Noelle slowly approached the gaming stations.
Noelle said nothing, she simply watched the boy play. She was never good at video games herself, but she really did like them. All of the systems she ever had at home only ever had one controller, and as far as everyone was concerned, they belonged to her brother. She had barely played any games herself, but she spent all that time not-playing by watching her brother instead. This one game looked like one she’d watch Matt play all the time, but the graphics looked a lot better, and the gameplay much more fluid, it definitely had to be a sequel. She peered down at the controller, it even looked more complicated than anything they ever owned. What were those two funny sticks? All this next-generation technology fascinated the quite-sheltered girl.
Noelle couldn’t help but be completely mesmerized by the game, the visuals like nothing she had seen before, and the character movements were quite enthralling. Whoever this kid was, he definitely had an expert command of the game, or so Noelle would--in her limited gaming experience--believe. Her eyes widened as the over-the-top actions of the game unfolded, finally breaking the silence by exclaiming something, in an excitedly high-pitched tone.
“Holy crap! You just cut that guy’s freaking head off!”

Red, having not noticed the girl enter the lounge, jumped when she yelled. He hadn't noticed her come in because he was engrossed with his game. So, he hit the pause button and turned to her. "Sorry." He said with his hand behind his head. "I didn't notice you there. You might've givin me a bit of a fright!" He looked towards the game controller and then back at the girl. Because of her reaction, he came to the conclusioin that she'd never really played a game before. "Do you wanna have a try?" He said. "I'm Red, by the way."

Noelle looked at the controller as the boy, identifying himself as Red, handed it to her. She liked the contour of the controller, accomodating to even her remarkably tiny hands.
"Oh, um... I'm... I'm Noelle." The girl introduced herself. "Pleased to meet you."
Noelle looked down at the controller in her hands and then at the screen. Randomly pressing a button, she exited the pause menu, and moved the character around.
"Um... okay." She began to mash different buttons, randomly causing her character to jump, punch, shoot, and talk at a poor, innocent NPC all at once, and now proceeded to attack her. "Eek! I'm sorry, lady!"
Randomly mashing buttons excitedly as the unarmed NPC fruitlessly punched her, Noelle's character casted a fire spell, reducing the NPC into nothing but ashes. Noelle's eyes shined brightly. Having discovered the button to shoot fire from her hands, she now felt completely drawn into the game. Having now commited virtual murder, the in-game guards began to chase Noelle, who now felt unstoppable thanks to her newfound fire powers. She burned down a barrage of guards, which only caused more to appear, and more. Noelle hid behind walls and ledges, and shot down her assailants with fiery blasts.
"Die!" Noelle exclaimed, before someone came up from behind and impaled her, leaving her lifeless character on the floor before cutting to a loading screen.
"Aw... I died." Noelle handed the controller back to Red. "That was so exciting, though. Wow. Is this what video games are like now? I like it."

"Yeah. That just about sums up video games these days." He said, trying not to laugh over her reaction to the game. He took the controller from her and put it on the table in front of him. "So." He said. "I'm gonna get personal here and ask what you're doing here?" He was actually really curious about the other students. They weren't as experienced at battling as he was but their dreams seemed just as big. He wanted to know what drives every student here.

"Um, well... if we're being honest, I kinda just wandered here. I would've gone anywhere else just to get out of Johto." Noelle said, placing an index finger on her chin as she thought. "My brother once had a flyer for it in his room, but I don't think Matt ever came here. I want to learn everything I can about Pokemon, and I think coming here was the best way to kickstart the adventure I could never had."
Noelle sighed as she glanced at a nearby window. "I just don't like that said adventure starts in rain... I always feel unlucky in the rain."

As she explained her story, Red felt guilty. He didn't have a reason like that. He just ran away from his problems. "Running away huh? I guess I can relate." He said thoughtfully. He shook his head and went back to the way he was. "Yeah. Rain is a pretty dull way to start. I guess you kinda get used to...IS THAT A TORNADO?!" Red ran over to the window to see. "Whoa. That's cool."

Noelle stood still for a moment as Red ran towards the window. Her eyes widened as she closed in to take a look herself. She had never seen a tornado before. Ecruteak was on a more mountanous section of Johto, so it was snugly safe from them for the most part.
"Oh... my." She placed her hand on her mouth, as her eyes got even bigger still. "This is precisely what I mean. I hate the rain."

Red grinned at her. "Rain isn't that bad. What's bad is when that rain is actually a giant Kyogre trying to destroy the world. Now THAT'S bad." He looked at the tornado a bit more and then back to Noelle. "Well," He spread his arms out wide. "Welcome to the world of pokemon!"

Noelle smiled nervously, her left eye twitching a little. "I... see..."
Red seemed unfazed by the ordeal. Noelle gathered that stuff like this was par for the course. She wondered what kind of thing would be enough to actually make him worry, if at all. Reminding her of Matt, and his calm, collected demeanor, Noelle nodded softly and calmed down a bit. She simply had to remember that she was surrounding herself amongst other, much stronger people. A warm smile encompassed her face as she realized she no longer was alone.
"Yeah. You know what? I just might like this place after all."

With Noelle saying that she might like this place, Red was thiiiiis close to jumping and yelling. He loved the world of pokemon battle and many would say he's one of the best. He hated to think of it like that although if anyone wanted his advice, he'd certainly give it. "I'm glad to hear you say that!" He said. "So. What pokemon did you chose when you got here?" He figured this was a sticky beak question but he was curious. He'd chosen the partner he thought was best and now he wanted to know what others chose. Pokemon choices reflect your personality.

Noelle rummaged around in her bag, taking out the Pokeball with her--at the moment--only Pokemon. Releasing the Charmander inside, the Pokemon let out a lazy yawn as it emerged, having been just waking up from a nap.
"This is Seraph." Noelle announced proudly, showcasing her starter Pokemon to Red, her eyes shining excitedly as she introduced the Charmander. "He's going to grow up into a Charizard, and then we're gonna fly back to Ecruteak and deal with the bullies who took my doll eight years ago."

Red's smile drops a little bit. While he liked that she wanted to train that charmander and they seemed close, he wasn't all that approving of why. He hated other people using pokemon as tools of revenge. "Listen" He said, completely serious. "What you do is your business. But let me say this. Using pokemon as tools for revenge isn't something I'm supporting of. I can understand your reasons, and even relate! But that's beside the point. I'm sorry." He turns away from her, remembering some things he wanted to forget. He raises his arm and sends out his pokemon - Leo. It was a litleo and it rubbed itself affectionately along his legs - just like a cat. He picked it up. "I'm sorry." He said genuinely. "I'm really sorry for my outburst." He pats the pokemon he's holding and stares out the window. "I'm sorry." He mutters one more time.

Noelle and Seraph tilted their heads in unison upon seeing Red’s reaction. Noelle realized she had struck a chord, and her nervous smile turned into a flat-out nervous look. Although, within her head, she still really wanted that doll back. She’d have to find a different way to get it back, later. She’d have to brush up on some sneaking skills, instead.
“Um, o-okay. Revenge bad. Got it.” The malleable and easily-impressed Noelle’s voice trembled as she nodded slowly, before Red turned to the window and apologized. At this point, Noelle had no idea what to say. Biting her thumbnail nervously, she broke the awkward silence that ensued by saying the only thing on her mind.
“Yeah... um... I… I might need a little more help than I thought.”

Red put down the pokemon and flopped on the couch with his elbow over his face. He really didn't like yelling at people, but when they hit his sore points, well, leave it at WW III might break out. "Everyone needs help sometimes...." He took his elbow away from his face and looked at Noelle. "So," He said, trying to change the subject. "What classes are you taking this term?" He was honestly curious. He might be taking some classes with this girl after all.
