Rolling a Double [Open]

Gary had decided to take Zoey's advice and engage in a double battle with Scout, his Farfetch'd, and June, his Joltik. He hoped the battle would help the two of them get along better and give Scout a reason to have an interest in June that did not involve eating her. He strolled into the battle area with Mr. Winston, who would be the referee for the match. Gary took out both of his intended Pokemon so that any observers would know that he was interested in a double battle and challenge him.
<Eep!> June immediately cried upon seeing Scout. She hid behind Gary's leg. Why was he there?
Scout stood on the ground and narrowed his eyes at the Joltik. <Can I eat the bug yet?>
Gary frowned at his Pokemon's reactions. "Come one, guys, we're going to battle." He looked down at June. "I won't let him hurt you." He turned his gaze to Scout. "You will only win the battle if you work together. Focus on battling, not eating." He hoped a trainer would approach them soon. He did not know what would happen if the two of them were together for too long.

The smoker flicked his cigarette to the breeze and poked his head in through the doorway. He had never even seen this place before. His eyes roamed the interior of the room and he wondered what exactly it was used for? After a moment, his view fell upon a couple people and some creatures. Rae's lips curled in a curious manner and he stepped through and entered the room.
"What is this place?" he wondered aloud, walking toward the others he had seen. His right hand twitched involuntarily near his hip and the pokeballs that hung there clacked against one another audibly as he moved. Before long, he had come within range of the others and he stopped, not wanting to invade their space without a greeting. Rae knew just how annoying that could be and he didn't want to be a hypocrite.
"Hey pal, what's the deal with this place?"

Gary blinked, a bit startled by the question. He turned to Rae and saw that he appeared a bit out of place. He summarized that he had never been to this part of the school before and had wandered here by accident. Once he found out, he wondered if he would be up for a battle. "This is an area set aside especially for battles," Gary explained. He jerked his thumb at Mr. Winston behind him. "A teacher has to watch, but it's pretty useful. You know everyone here wants the same thing. You just have to find someone who matched your skill level."
Scout looked Rae up and down. Then he huffed. <He doesn't appear to be much. I could take him.>
June seemed less certain. <I don't know... What kind of Pokemon does he have?> If it was something big and scary, she was definitely out. Why did she have to battle anyway?

The chain-smoker itched his butt cheek as he listened. His eyes continued to roam and explore the area all around them. Finally, looked toward the teacher, Mr... Winston? "Oh hey, how's it goin' pops?" Rae asked, giving a subtle wave. His gaze shifted back to the brown-haired boy in the foreground and then descended toward either creature standing beside him. One was some sort of bird-like beast and the other... Well Rae honestly had no idea what the other thing was... "Battles huh?..." Rae voiced, still trying to comprehend everything. He looked down at his feet, noticing the ground below had a ton of character. It looked as though many battles had been waged here already. The plane was scuffed and weathered from foes circling one another and engaging. Rae's eyes lifted back to the boy and noted the necklace hanging in view. His eyes fixated on it for a moment, before he shook his head and snapped out of it. "Right so... I guess you and your... friends here, are looking for a challenge then?" The pierced Pokemon trainer moved his hand to his right hip, where his pokeballs were covered by the bottom of his dark grey sweatshirt. He pressed his palm against one of the spheres, feeling it through the material of his hoodie. He gazed off into nothingness, as he thought about the creatures that resided inside the red and white spheres. Eventually a gentle smile crept its way across the smoker's lips and his fingers dug beneath the folds of his sweatshirt, until they touched upon the surface of a pokeball. "I doubt I'm on par with you... but, if you're interested, I do have this guy..." Rae spoke, before plucking the ball from his belt and extending his hand forth slightly. With his palm facing upward, the tattooed trainer slowly turned his wrist and allowed the pokeball to roll off his palm and fall toward the ground. It knocked once, before ripping open violently and spewing a flood of vibrant light onto the scene. Rae squinted his eyes until the flash subsided, wondering why they had to make that thing so d@#mn bright? Taking a breath in through his nostrils, he looked upon the newest arrival to the battlefield. "Mornin' Abr... uh..." Rae stopped himself, before continuing with a different greeting to his pokemon. "Hey pal, I'd like you to meet er..." Rae stopped again, looking up at the boy. "...What did you say your name was again?" Gary nodded. "Yes, we are looking for a battle." He watched as the guy took out a Pokeball and released a Pokemon. His eyes widened when he realized what it was. "Whoa, a Kadabra!" He recognized it from his own reason. He took out his Pokedex to check it out. "Kadabra, the psi Pokemon and the evolved form of Abra," the machine said. "When it uses its psychic power, it emits strong alpha waves that can ruin precision devices." It looked like this one was at level 20. "Cool," Gary said as he put his Pokedex away.
He was silent for a moment while he thought about the situation. He had been hoping for a double battle, but this could work as well. "Oh, I'm Gary," he said when his name was requested. "Gary Oak. This is June and Scout." He nodded at the Joltik and Farfetch'd. "What do they call you?" He paused for a minute as he waited for a response. "Anyway, looks like your Pokemon is stronger than mine, so how about I use my two against your one?" It seemed fair enough to him. Even adding his Pokemon's levels together, they were still a bit overpowered. He always loved a challenge, though.
<Sounds good to me,> Scout said, scratching his right foot on the dirt. He was ready to fight!
<O-ok,> June said timidly. The Kadabra was a bit intimidating, but at least he did not look like he wanted to eat her.

"Ka..dabra?" Rae said quietly, under his breath. His ears burned as he listened to the boy and the device that was speaking in his hand. Rae had never even known what to call his Abra since it had mutated into this new form. He wondered what that equipment was that the kid was using to learn the name of his pokemon? Rae continued to listen, learning more about his own pokemon than he had ever known. Strong alpha waves? thought the smoker, trying to comprehend. Perhaps this was why he was usually unable to see the moves that his pokemon used. Time and time again in battle, the creature would stand there, seemingly just staring at the opponent. Then, the enemy would appear to take great damage out of nowhere. Rae hadn't known what to think all this time, but... if that device the kid was using was right, then that might explain it. "A... psi pokemon?" Rae breathed, his eyes tracing over the yellow-creature's form. It was incredible, all the things he had learned, was learning and still had yet to learn. He couldn't imagine how much information was out there, how much potential was still laying dormant. He felt like he had already accomplished so much, but he knew in his heart that he still knew nothing at all. If only his little brother were still around, he could've opened Rae's eyes up to everything. Now, he was just trying to figure it all out as he went and doing a real crappy job of it... One thing was for certain; Rae needed to get his hands on one of those devices... He snapped back to reality when the boy's voice came again. Rae looked from him, to the two creatures as they were all introduced. "Gary... June... and Scout..." he mouthed, trying to remember their names. Then, the kid asked for his name. "Uh, I'm sure they call me a lot of different things... but, name's... Rae..." he admitted finally, unable to think of a better lie at the moment. The smoker shifted his weight from one foot to the other, before stretching his arms overhead. "Errrrrrrraaaaaahhhhhh," he groaned, feeling his limbs loosen and his muscles relax a hair. Rae heard Gary's offering and the two creatures voicing their opinions on the matter. He pursed his lips, before nodding his head in agreement. "Alright, I'm game..." he said, before looking toward the evolved Abra. The creature stood motionless, like usual, hardly showing any signs that it were even conscious. "C'mon pal, show 'em what you've got!" Rae said, before stepping back and waiting for the magic to unfold. The Kadabra stood motionless, eying its two opponents. After a good few minutes, Rae finally straightened his legs and his brow furrowed in wonder. "Huh? What's wrong Abra? Do your thing buddy..." he insisted, his eyes shifting from his pokemon, to the kid. His pokemon wasn't doing anything and Rae had no idea why? Surely it wasn't scared of fighting two opponents at once? It had already been in a similar situation before... So then, what was the problem? The yellow, spoon-wielding pokemon appeared to be doing nothing, but in fact, it had tried to use all of its techniques already. One after the next, they all failed to activate. The pokemon eventually turned its head, peeking back at Rae and returning the same confused look. Apparently, Rae and his pokemon were unable to battle right now, for some, odd reason. The smoker felt a shortness of breath when he tried to announce a command to his pokemon and he gripped his chest in discomfort, feeling winded and groggy. It was like the pierced trainer was already engaged somewhere else and trying to stretch the limits beyond their means... "Sorry I... I guess I'm not ready yet," Rae managed to say, before he lowered his head in a defeated fashion. "C'mon Abra, let's step to the side for now... maybe we can try again in a little while..." The pokemon took another look at the opponents, before following Rae off to the side and plopping down on the ground. He wasn't sure what the heck was going on, but he hoped his trainer would get his act together soon. There was a great battle awaiting! Rae? Gary noted the name and filed it away. He wondered which team this guy was on. In any matter, he was glad he was up for the battle. He looked at the Kadabra when Rae spoke to him. Didn't the trainer know the moves of his own Pokemon? It looked like he had a lot to learn. Gary frowned slightly when nothing appeared to be happening. What was going on? He wanted to battle!
He held in a frustrated sigh when Rae said they were not ready. What could be the problem? He watched as the two of them walked off to the side. "Figure it out soon, ok?" he called to them. "We don't have all day." Of course, if someone else happened to stop by and wanted to battle, Gary might be inclined to accept the other offer. He looked at his own Pokemon worriedly. How long would it take before Scout lost interest in battling and set his sights on eating the Joltik?
<I'll bet they're scared,> Scout said haughtily. He took to the air and flew circles around his trainer. He needed something to do, and flying practice seemed like a good idea.
June watched the Farfetch'd nervously. Form his position, he could easily swoop down and grab her in his beak. She scurried over to Gary and held onto his leg. He would protect her, right? Scout would not attack his trainer.

Grrroowwwwwllllll
Rae's eyes suddenly widened and is lips pursed in an odd manner. His expression turned sour and he took deep, heaving breaths. He looked down at his growling stomach nervously, hoping he would be able to hold out for a few minutes, until he could reach the bathroom. Whatever Rae had eaten last night, apparently wasn't agreeing with him...
Standing suddenly, he looked at his evolved Abra and then at the boy and his two pokemon whom were waiting for the challenge. "Heya, pal, sorry but, I gotta' jet!" announced Rae, already pulling the pokeball from his belt to return his yellow, spoon-wielding friend.
Once the Kadabra was removed from the scene, Rae began a sluggish half-jog, half-butt cheek clench toward the door. He threw up his free hand as he departed, knowing that he would definitely not be back any time soon. "Catch ya... late... err..." he struggled, before disappearing out of sight.
Next stop; the nearest toilet and or bush.
ooc: Rae really has to go to the bathroom and has exited the area.

Gary looked over at Rae in surprise. What in the world was wrong with him? He frowned as he watched him exit the area. Well, that battle was never going to happen. He clenched and unclenched his fists in frustration. He hoped someone else would show up to battle him soon. He was usually quite patient, but he did not want to take any chances with these two particular Pokemon. He did not want to risk Scout acting on his threatening behavior toward June.

Serkan was in the area. And, while he was content to wait on someone to come battle him, he wasn’t opposed to going to battle anyone else. So, he made his way over to where Gary was. However, upon seeing the two pokemon, he returned Curtana and let out Khopesh and Rapier. ”Howdy!” he greeted. ”I’m Serkan Alamilla. "Hello," Gary greeted the student who approached him, relieved that it finally looked like someone else wanted to battle. "I'm Gary Oak. A battle would be great." He nodded when Serkan told him he could go first. He took a minute to sort out the match-up. The Cranidos was a rock type and the Sandile was a ground and dark type. June's electric moves would not be effective against the Sandile, while the Cranidos' moves would be very effective against her. Her bug type moves would be great against the Sandile, though.
Meanwhile, Scout's normal type and flying type moves would not wok well against the rock type. The Cranidos' moves would be effective against him, but the ground type's would not work very well. Gary would have to be careful about his strategy to make this work to his advantage. "Ok, Scout, use Fury Attack against the Sandile, and June, use Thunder Wave against the Cranidos!"
Scout was glad the battle was finally started. Now he could finally show someone how great he really was! He hoped the Joltik would take some notes so she would be useful for something besides food. He jumped into the air and flew towards the Sandile. If he got close enough, he would jab his beak at him several times in a row. June, on the other hand, stayed where she was. She turned to face the Cranidos and focused on her electric powers. Then she sent a weak wave of lightning in his direction, hoping to paralyze him.

Serkan clenched his fists as the battle started, excited already. Hm… fury attack was… a normal type move! But, against poor Rapier, that might do some damage. And, crap, thunder wave was gonna slow down and maybe lock up Khopesh. Maybe he shouldn’t have let the stranger have first go. No, no, this was a friendly match. Manners should be kept up. ”Don’t you two get discouraged,” Serkan ordered. ”Khopesh, use focus energy and then headbutt the, um… pidgey?!” It looked like a pidgey. It was brown with a light belly and eyebrow-things on its head. Close enough. ”Rapier, you use leer and bite against the joltik.” Now, that pokemon he knew. Khopesh felt the paralysis taking hold, but for now he could move. He flexed his muscles, getting pumped up and more able to perhaps land a critical hit. He then rushed forward, intending to knock the farfetch’d right out of the sky. Thanks to his sheer force ability, he’d remove any chance of making the farfetch’d flinch in exchange for increased power. On his own part, Rapier frowned. Why on earth had Serkan let the other guys go first? All the same, the sandile activated his intimidate ability and leered over at the joltik before running as well as a crocodile could run--which was surprisingly well in short bursts--away from the farfetch’d’s fury attack. He opened his jaws wide. He might actually hurt the joltik, but he didn’t particularly care if he did. ”And, go easy on the li’l one! It’s a spar, not a death match!”… but maybe Serkan did. Yes, no matter whether the hit landed or not, the bite attack would clearly be aiming to just hurt the joltik, not crush it between Rapier’s teeth or anything. levels: 10 & 8 attacks: headbutt, leer, focus energy, pursuit, iron head & leer, rage, bite, sand attack abilities: mold breaker, sheer force & intimidate, moxie, anger point hit by: thunder wave & fury attack used: headbutt, focus energy & leer, bite health: high green (paralyzed) & green

June was going to be in trouble unless she got some help. Gary hoped she did not believe the Sandile was going to eat her. That Bite sure did look threatening. "Scout, dodge it and get June onto your back!" If he helped her out, maybe it would increase the bond between them. They had to learn how to work together. "Then use Poison Jab on the Sandile, and June, you attack him as well with String Shot." They could afford to ignore the Cranidos for a second. Right now, they needed to land a hit and possibly poison the crocodile.
June was affected by the Leer, and she froze up upon seeing the Sandile coming towards her with his jaws wide open. Was he going to eat her? She trembled in fear. Meanwhile, Scout flew up to avoid the headbutt. Then he sailed down where his teammate stood. He bent his head low and moved her up so that she was now sitting on his back. He did not particular care for the Joltik, but he would obey his trainer if it would help him win.
June gained more confidence as she stood on the Farfetch'd's back. She could not believe he had actually saved her! Now she had to attack. As they got close to the Sandile, she shot out sticky string at him. A few seconds later, Scout swooped down to attack him with a poison-coated beak.

Oh yeah, Serkan suddenly remembered why he hated flying types so much. ”Stay back! Make ‘em come to you!” he demanded. His earthly critters would just wear themselves out chasing the duo into the sky. Serkan held his tongue as his duo backed up closer to each other. Seeing the farfetch’d coming back around, he jumped on their chance. ”Khopesh, use pursuit on the farfetch’d! Rapier, help him out! Bite him out of the sky!” Their only hope was to get the duo grounded. The two jumped into action. Rapier leapt into the air as well as a sandile could, snapping his jaws at the breast and legs of the farfetch’d. His movement helped to break up a bit of the webbing shot at him, but he was slowed down a bit. The poison jab hurt, but he was grateful his typing softened the blow. He wasn’t poisoned, either… for now. Khopesh also jumped up. If the farfetch’d tried to run away, it would merely increase the power of the move. His dome-like head ached to make contact with solid flesh. By sheer effort on Khopesh’s part, the two earthly pokemon didn’t slam into each other in their effort to reach up to their opponents. Though he was not ordered to, Khopesh leered at the farfetch’d. And, thanks to his mold breaker ability, if it landed, it would work as intended. levels: 10 & 8 attacks: headbutt, leer, focus energy, pursuit, iron head & leer, rage, bite, sand attack abilities: mold breaker, sheer force & intimidate, moxie, anger point hit by: -- & poison jab, string shot used: pursuit & bite health: high green (paralyzed) & low green

Gary had to think in several directions at once as the battle progressed. From the looks of it, they could avoid one of their opponent's Pokemon but not both. He had a decision to make. "June, turn around and use Spider Web on the Sandile. Then try to jump onto him and use Leech Life." The Spider Web should slow him down and make it easier for the Joltik to use the damaging move. Plus, if the Sandile got to her first, Leech Life would restore some of her energy. "Scout, use Fury Cutter on the Cranidos!" This attack's power would grow if successive hits were landed.
June felt alarmed at the order to jump onto the Sandile. What if he tried to eat her? However, she could see the Farfetch'd was likely to crash, and she did not want to be on him when that happened. She turned and shot a sticky web at the Sandile that had jumped into the air. Then she took a deep breath and leapt down, hoping to miss the crocodile's jaws. If she successfully landed on his back, she would use Leech Life against him. If she landed on the ground, she would scurry over to him and hope to use the attack that way.
Scout was slightly irked that his trainer seemed to think it inevitable that he would be hit. Did he not trust in his abilities? He turned his body so that he just missed the Sandile, but he had no time to dodge the Cranidos. Right after June jumped off him, he was hit by the Leer and Pursuit attack. He started to fall to the ground. At the last second, he was able to open his wings and steady his fall. He glared at the Cranidos before rushing towards him. he held out his leek so that he could strike him several times. No one knocked him out of the air and got away with it!
