Zaphinea is the quiet shy type who generally keeps to herself. She seems withdrawn and lacks many social graces. She will definitely come across as brash or uncaring. This is simply because she is blunt. She was never taught to sugar-coat or to hold her tongue.
At her worse, Zaphinea can be mean and very rude. She will cut someone down with her words and looks that could kill.
At her best, the young woman is kind and caring, while still maintaining her blunt nature. She can be very generous and thoughtful to those that she cares about and would do anything that she could to help those people out. It would take a great deal to gain that trust, though.
History:
Zaphinea grew up as an only child. She did not come from the average family, though. Her mother was not present, as the woman was put in jail for drug use when Zaphinea was only two. Her father was a scientist that spent a great deal of time alone. This left little in the way of attention for the young girl. Her only companions were her nanny and her invisible group of friends.
This upbringing resulted in a very socially awkward young lady. She had a great deal of trouble in school. Not many of the other students could handle the blunt nature of the girl. This had been a quality that she gleaned from his nanny. The woman was never afraid to speak her mind, and Zaphinea picked this up easily.
It was also very difficult for other students to relate to the girls advanced thinking. Naturally intelligent, she was forced to use her advancement in order to communicate with her father and it became a sort of hindrance. She lost interest in the petty squabbles of girls her age and looked more for adult attention. She felt that she could better connect to those that were older than her, and in many ways it was the truth.
This led to a very odd friendship between Zaphinea and her principle. The gentleman saw the girl’s position and took pity on her. He took the young lady under his wing and began to try and help her find her way. It was true, the girl was lost. Her principle became her best friend and closest confidante.
In her junior year of high school, the worst happened. She was to attend a science fair with the principle and see the Pokemon and trainers that were attending. Zaphinea had always loved the idea of being a trainer, but had never had a chance. Her parents lacked enough care to introduce the girl to the calling.
At the event, she fell in love with training and soon signed up for the Academy. Unfortunately, on the way home, there was a terrible accident and Zaphinea’s only friend was killed. Zaphinea was in a coma for two months before she woke to find her whole life had changed. Her father had committed suicide, her only friend was dead, and her estranged mother was there.
Zaphinea took an immediate dislike to the greedy, drunk woman. Zaphinea discovered that the fortune her father had stashed was already being squandered, and she was so behind in school that she would likely not pass the year.
Instead of returning to her studies, the teen girl ran away from home and traveled for the next six months. She saw many wonderful and terrible things and it further pushed the girl into her shell. By the time she was found, Zaphinea was half wild.
It took the entire summer vacation for her ‘mother’ to even be able to talk to her and by the time Zaphinea spoke to her, it was only to tell her that she wanted to go away to Cherilli Academy. Her mother balked at the price, but finally agreed.
Zaphinea is now seventeen years old, and will be attending her first semester at the Academy.
