The Deerling smiled lightly when he succeeded that time. <Yeah,> he said in response to Skipper's question. More bubbles? He tried to dodge them but was unable to again; he wasn't small or nimble enough to avoid them. <Those bubbles of yours are trouble,> he said with a slight smirk. Now, it was his turn again. He ran forward as fast as he could, aiming to tackle him again. It felt great to run; he felt so free. "Dodge it and use Tackle yourself!" Gary said. He could anticipate the Deerling's moves because he seemed to only know one. He appeared to be enjoying himself, though. The trainer hoped he was glad he had left his heard to come battle. This was just the kind of Pokemon he needed.
Skipper laughed at the Deerling's comment. <Yeah, thanks.> He was glad he was having fun. Maybe soon he would have a new friend to play and train with. The Deerling seemed like he would make a good teammate. The Squirtle darted out of the range of the Tackle. Without slowing, he turned and ran back towards the other Pokemon.

The Deerling struggled to stop himself when Skipper dodged his attack. Oh, no. When he managed to do so, he was tackled. <Oof,> he let out when he fell. He got back up slowly, for he was a little out of breath right now. Tackling again would probably not be a good idea. Well, not without a little something before it. Determined to get one more move in, he ran towards the Squirtle before stopping to spray sand in his face. Then, he ran to tackle him. Skipper was hit by the Tackle and suffered some damage. It looked like these two Pokemon were fairly evenly matched. This was going to end soon. Gary had a strategy to try to get the upper hand. "Alright, Skipper, now use Muddy Water!" Hopefully it would do some damage and make it easier for the Squirtle to dodge the Deerling's next attack.
Skipper was too close to the Deerling to get out of the way of the Tackle. He fell onto his back and spun around on his shell. <Nice hit,> he said. It was fun battling this Deerling. he hoped she would join his team so they could have more great times together. He had enough strength to hop back onto his feat. Then he bent down and splashed Muddy Water at the other Pokemon.

The Deerling smiled at the compliment. <Thanks.> He flinched at the muddy water as it was splashed at him. He could feel himself getting tireder and tireder, but he still had to keep going. He closed his eyes to keep the mud from getting in, but he had to open them to attack. He thought about growling. However, he really didn't feel like it. Not with this muddy water in his eyes. So, he decided to just run forward in the direction of Skipper, hoping he would hit him. The Muddy Water had the effect that Gary was hoping for. Despite his weakened state, Skipper should be able to dodge the attack. Then they had to strike back while they could. This was almost over. "Come on, Skipper, dodge it and use Tackle!" He wondered if this would be it. He was quite impressed by the battling spirit both Pokemon possessed.
The Squirtle listened to his trainer and managed to jump out of the way. He suddenly had the idea to make an offer to the Deerling. <Do you want to join us? My trainer can help you become better at battling.> He knew Gary was probably planning on catching him, and Skipper thought it would be polite to ask first. He waited a few seconds for a response, and then he ran forward to Tackle him.

The Deerling was not very surprised that he had missed Skipper; he had muddy water clouding his eyes, after all. It was alright, though. He quickly turned around to face the Squirtle. His eyes were clearing up now. Join them? The sound of it made him feel a bit of excitement. After experiencing all this, battling and everything, he knew he couldn't return to the skittish ways of the herd. He wanted to be on his own and learn how to battle and defend himself. Joining this trainer and Squirtle would give him that, and it would be fun. <Yes!> he said with a small smile. With one last attempt at prolonging the battle a little more, he tried to move out of the way, but it was no use. He was too slow. As he fainted, however, he felt no fear. Skipper sighed in relief when his final attack caused the Deerling to faint. He still had a decent amount of energy left, but he was getting tired. He was glad that the Deerling had agreed to join them. They were all going to have so much fun together. He looked back at his trainer and smiled.
Gary nodded at Skipper in approval. He was proud of the way his Squirtle had fought. "Good job, Skipper. Take a long rest." After returning him to this Pokeball, he turned to the Deerling. He did not feel as bad about catching this one as he had the Joltik. The Deerling had seemed happy fighting, and appeared to like the trainer and Squirtle. He hoped this would work out well. He took out an empty Pokeball and lightly tossed it at the deer.

Gary walked over to the Pokeball and picked it up. Yes, this was going to be a good Pokemon for him. He put the ball away and turned around. His trip to the forest had been quite successful. Now he had to work on training his four Pokemon. He wanted them to become big and strong so that he could win many battles. He had thoughts of becoming school champion in mind as he walked down the path towards the academy. OOC: finished
