"What do you think about joining the Pokemon Contest, Alice?" Kiki asked her Chikorita, who stood before her. The trainer had never thought about becoming a coordinator, but now the idea intrigued her. She thought that she could battle one battle leader and enter a contest to see which she preferred. Both were bound to be fun, and that was partially what school was about, right?
<Contest?> Alice said, staring up at her trainer in interest. <What do I have to do?> The name sounded interesting to her.
Kiki smiled in understanding. Of course her Pokemon would not know what a contest was. She had never been exposed to one. "In the first round, we need to use your moves in a way that shows of your beauty in skill. In the second round, we do the same thing but in a battle. What do you say?"
<Sure!> It sounded kind of fun. If her trainer was interested, she would do it.
"Great! Let's try to come up with something." She thought about all of Alice's moves. This was going to be hard. "Use Razor Leaf and then use your Vine Whip to push the leaves into the air." They were never going to get better unless they started with something.
Alice nodded. She used Razor Leaf up in the sky. Then she shot out her vines and tried to hit the leafs in a further upward direction. Some of the leaves were too high, and others spun in the air for a few seconds before falling to the ground. The Chikorita glanced at Kiki. <Was that good?>

Nate was looking forward to the start of the new semester. The were exciting changes taking place at Cherilli Academy, not least which was the new team system. He could not wait until the tournament at the end of the semester. He had to start training hard to earn points and help his team get to the top. For now, though, he was enjoying the short break from classes. It was windy, so he had a jacket on as he walked through the courtyard with his Eevee Watcher by his side. "It's going to be a good semester," he said. "Don't you agree?"
<Yes,> Watcher said with a smile. The Pokemon had enjoyed the previous semester. It was fun working with his partner and meeting new friends. Now they were almost strong enough to challenge the first battle leader. His ears twitched as he heard noise up ahead. He could see a Chikorita and her trainer off int he grassy area.
Nate recognized the girl as Kiki, and he thought the Chikorita's name was Alice. It was good to see them again. "Hey, Kiki," he said once they were a couple of yards away. "Hi, Alice. What are you guys doing?" They appeared to be engaged in some sort of special training.
Watcher stopped by his trainer and smiled at Alice. <Hello.>

Kiki viewed Alice's moves critically. That was not exactly what she had been looking for. "Maybe we should try something else,"she said with uncertainty. She turned when she heard someone say her name, smiling upon recognizing Nate. "Hi, Nate. We're practicing for the Pokemon Contest in March. I've never done anything like it before, but I thought I'd give it a try." Too bad she was not having much luck so far.
Alice saddened at her trainer's words, but she immediately brightened when Watcher approached. <Hello! How are you doing?> Maybe these two could help with their combinations.

Nate had heard about the Pokemon contest. He thought it was cool that Cherilli Academy now had a place for coordinators. It was good to have more choices. He had never seen a contest before. "I did not know you were into contests." It was not that surprising, though. Kiki and her Chikorita seemed like they would be good in a contest. "are you going to take the coordinator path?"
<I'm good,> Watcher said. He glanced up at the trainers when they spoke. Then he looked back at Alice curiously. <What's a Pokemon contest?> It sounded fun.

"I don't know if I'm into contests," Kiki said honestly. She chuckled lightly. "I guess I'm just testing the waters. I don't know which path I want to take. I'm going to try out both and see which one I like better... and which one I am more skilled at. School is about trying to find what you want to do, right?" She was not worrying too much about that right now. After school, she was not planning on attempting to win gym battles or contests. "Do you know which path you're going to take?"
<A contest is an event where Pokemon show off their skills in a pretty way,> Alice said. <There are also battles.> She wondered if the Eevee would be interested in something like that. Did he have any cool moves?

Nate understood what she was saying. School was a good time to test your options and find out what you enjoyed. He had always known what he wanted to, but it was interesting to see what else was out there. 'I'm going to go with gym battles," he said. "I don't know much about contests. I don't think they're my thing. I'll be in the audience, though." Maybe he would enjoy watching instead of participating. He had no idea what he would do if he actually entered.
<That's cool,> Watcher said. <Good luck when you enter.> He was sure the pretty Chikorita would do great.

Kiki listened to Nate and nodded when he finished. It was good to see he was interested in at least observing new things. "You could always try it out once," she suggested. "Even if you still want to take on the battle leaders, you could enter one contest just for the experience."She shrugged. "Your Pokemon might enjoy it too. It's just a thought." She knew the school was trying hard to get trainers to sign up for their first contest. Why not help them out?
Alice smiled at the Eevee. <Thank you.> She was still not sure what this contest stuff was all about, but she was willing to give it a try.

Nate blinked. Try out a contest? That was something he had never considered. It had never really come to his mind, but Kiki was right about his Pokemon enjoying it. Maybe he should ask them. "What do you think, Watcher?" he said, looking down at his Eevee. "Would you be interested in a contest? I know you don't really have any moves you could use on your own." That would be a problem. He could compete in the second round, though.
Watcher frowned slightly. <Yeah, I don't. You could ask someone else.> He was sure another Pokemon on his team would have a good time at a contest. It was worth asking.

Kiki examined the Eevee. Yeah, it would be pretty hard to show off a Pokemon's moves if it just knew the basics like tackle. "Do you have another Pokemon you could work with?" she asked Nate. She could not remember what other Pokemon he had. She usually just saw him with his Eevee. "If you don't, I'm sure there's always next time." It would have been fun to practice with someone, though. She did not know anyone else was entering.

Nate thought about it for a minute. There was only one Pokemon he could really use. It was worth a shot to ask him if a contest was something he would be interested in. "Blaise knows Ember and Smokescreen. Those are moves we can use." He found the Charmander's Pokeball and released him. Blaise appeared in a flash of light. Nate smiled at him. "Hey, Blaise. Would you be interested in entering a Pokemon Contest?"
Blaise blinked as he got used to be outdoors. Then he looked at his trainer curiously. <What's a contest?>
<Something about showing off your moves,> Watcher said. He looked from Alice to Kiki. <Ask them. They know more.>

Kiki smiled at the Charmander that appeared. Yes, Ember and Smokescreen were good moves. She was sure Nate and Blaise would be able to come up with something excellent. The Pokemon appeared confused, though. "A Pokemon contest is a chance to show off your moves in a beautiful and skilled way," she explained. She glanced at Alice. "Maybe we should show him."
<Hi,> Alice said to Blaise when he appeared. Upon hearing her trainer speak, she glanced up at her and nodded. <Ok.>
Kiki tried to think of something quickly. Their last combination did not work out so well, so they were going to have to try something else. "Alright, use Razor Leaf upwards, and then jump up and use it down."
Alice shot leaves up into the air. Then she jumped up and tried to aim her leaves towards the ground. Most of the leaves sailed past each other, but some of them collided, cut them in half. The half leaves floated gently to the ground. The Chikorita smiled at Blaise. <We're still working on it, but I think you get the point.>

Blaise watched as Alice performed some moves. He thought it looked pretty cool. If they were still working on it, he was sure they could come up with something great with time. <I want to try!> he said excitedly. He turned to his trainer and grinned. Contests sounded like fun. Plus, it would be a good bonding experience for them. he thought for a second about what he should do. He really wanted to use Ember. He jumped up and spun himself around and then used the move. His ember rushed in a circle above his head.
Nate was impressed with his Charmander's quick thinking. "That was pretty good," he said. "It looks like you want to compete." He looked back at Kiki and smiled. "I guess I'll see you at the contest. We've got some work to do too." This was actually kind of exciting. He enjoyed trying new things.

<That was awesome,> Alice said once Blaise finished his move. <I'm sure you'll do great in the contest.> She was looking forward to seeing him again. Maybe they could train together sometime. She just loved making new friends.
"Yes, that was great," Kiki said to the Charmander. "Just keep practicing." It was good to see that the Pokemon had found something he was interested in. She wished him luck in the future. The trainer glanced at Nate and nodded. "Right. Alice and I should get back to practicing. Maybe the two of us could have a contest battle sometime. There are some things I want to try out." She did not want to enter the contest with any uncertainties.

<Thank you,> Blaise said happily. He was glad the others liked his combination. He was looking forward to the contest.
Nate nodded at Kiki. "Yeah, that would be great." It would be interesting to see what Blaise could do in a contest battle. Now he had something to look forward to. It would take a lot of work until they were ready to compete, though. He found the prospect exciting. "I'll see you later." He turned to Blaise and Watcher. "Ready to go, guys?" They had practicing of their own to get done.
