Nate had one more goal before he challenged the first battle leader. His electric type Chelsea did not yet know an electric move, and he wanted to get that accomplished first. She only needed to gain two more levels, so one battle should do it. The Shinx walked beside him as they stepped onto the sand at the beach. He gazed around at the area. He could see no one else around, which was probably due to the fact that it was winter. The only people who would travel to the lake at this time of year would be to capture Pokemon.
"Come on," Nate said as he started for the water. He held on psychic egg in his arms, and he was very excited to have it hatch. Hopefully it would be a good companion. While he walked towards the water, he reflected on how he did not yet have a water Pokemon, and that might be something that could come in handy in the future. He was not too eager to catch more Pokemon right now, though. He had enough to train at the moment. He would have to wait and decide what he would do based on who showed up. His only requirement was that Chelsea gain the necessary experience to level up.
The two of them stood at the shore, looking out at the water. Suddenly, he felt the egg in his arms moving. He had had one egg in the past, so he knew what was occurring. he carefully set the egg on the ground, kneeling near it. It was glowing. It was ready to hatch. Chelsea watched in awe as the scene unfolded.

The egg broke away as it glowed, soon revealing a small psychic Pokemon. It was a Solosis. The glowing stopped, and he took in his surroundings.

Nate had never seen this strange Pokemon before, but it looked pretty cool. He took out his Pokedex and held it up. "Solosis, the cell Pokemon," the Pokedex said. "Because Solosis' body is enveloped in a special liquid, it are fine in any environment, no matter how severe. It drives away attackers by unleashing psychic power. It can use telepathy to talk with others."
Chelsea stared at the Solosis with her mouth partly open. She had never seen a psychic type. When she realized she was being rude, she closed her mouth and gave the baby a small smile. <Hello. I'm Chelsea."
"Telepathy?" Nate said as he put the Pokedex away. "Cool." He knew some Pokemon, especially psychic types, were able to learn telepathy to communicate with humans. It was awesome that this one knew it naturally. The Solosis was floating before him, staring at him calmly and curiously. Nate said that his Shinx had already introduced himself, so he thought he could do the same. "Hi. I'm Nate. I'm going to be your trainer." He paused. "I'm going to call you Echo. Is that alright?" It seemed to him to be a good psychic name.
Then, a tiny voice seemed to enter the trainer's mind, and it was coming from the Solosis. <O-Ok. Nice to meet you." Echo continued to stare at him.
Nate smiled. "You too." He glanced down at Chelsea before looking back at the Solosis. "We're going to look for a Pokemon for Chelsea to battle, and I want you to watch. Then I'll make some food for the both of you." When Echo nodded, the trainer turned to resume his search for an opponent. The Shinx's ears were pricked as she did the same.

A lone Remoraid swam aimlessly through the salty ocean water. She loved how big the ocean was. She could swim for days and still be in a new place every time she took a rest. It was nothing like those constricted, inescapable ponds some unfortunate Pokemon were confided to. She felt so lucky her mother had been able to stay in the lake when she was born. It was amazing. She was a little bored, so she decided to take a peak out of the water. This meant she had to swim all the way to the shore, something she did not do very often because the water ended and she could not move on the land. She could stand to be constricted for just a moment, though; she loved to see what everyone on shore was doing.
When she reached the shore and popped her head up over the water, she glanced around at the scene before her. There was a trainer and two Pokemon close. Boy, was that a strange Pokemon or what? It was nothing like a water type, which she thought was the best Pokemon type out there. After observing them for a bit, she decided to get their attention to see what they were up to. To do that, she lifted her tail and splashed a good deal of water at all three of them. <Hey, whatcha doing?> she called. Species: Remoraid Gender: female Level: 12

Nate turned in surprise when he felt water splash on him. His eyes immediately fell to the water to search for the culprit. "Hey!" he exclaimed. Then he saw the small fish Pokemon and relaxed. It did not look like it was threatening them. Maybe it was just saying hello. He gave her a small smile. "Hello there." Maybe she wanted to battle.
Echo was frightened by the water, having never experienced it before. <Wh-what's that?> he asked nervously as he eyed the Remoraid. Was it going to attack them. He floated over to Nate and stayed beside him.
Chelsea's surprise was overtaken by annoyance. <What do you want?> she said sharply to the water type. Then an idea struck her. Perhaps she could battle this Pokemon. She was strong against water types, so it would be a good chance to gain the experience she needed. Her expression softened only slightly as she marched up to the edge of the water. <I challenge you to a battle!>

Oh goodies the trainer was turning around and looking at her! With a smile on her face the fish pokemon wiggled and splashed her tail some more in joy. <Hi! You look funny.> She said in a friendly voice as she looked at the little green pokemon. She hadn't meant to be rude, it just sort of happened, but she meant it in a good way. Looking at the trainer she jumped into the air then splashed back down in an excited manner. <Hi, hi, hi!> The blue pokemon all but sung as she calmed herself down some and looked at the trainer again. Looking at the Shinx now she listened to her, and a curious look crossed her face.
She was a little unsure, never before had she battled a land pokemon before. Sure other water pokemon that swam in the sea. Mostly other Remoraid, but never a land pokemon. Well there was that one Wingull, but really did that count? <Um, well...> She said softly as she looked at the odd pokemon with what looked to her as a star on her tail. She was being a little shy, and had to think about it for a few moments before she went on to agree. <Okay.> With that she swam a little closer to shore, but was still very much in the water. <You can go first.> Remoraid said as she was trying to be polite about it all. Echo flinched when the fish addressed him. <Uh, hi?> It was a bit unsettling for him to encounter so many new faces upon just coming into the world. Nothing seemed to threatening, so he relaxed a bit.
"It's alright," Nate said, giving his baby a slight smile. "That's a Remoraid. She won't hurt you." Then he returned his attention to the wild Pokemon. It looked like his Shinx was trying to battle her. That seemed like an excellent idea. This would be a great chance for her to gain some great experience whether she won or lost. "Ok, girl, let's battle." It seemed like the fish wanted them to go first. "Let's start off with Baby-Doll Eyes and Tackle!"
A grin spread across Chelsea's face. It looked like she was going to battle! <Prepare to lose,> she said in a semi-playful manner. She wanted to start off strong and show her skills. After listening to her trainer, she made herself look as cute as possible, giving herself a moment to decide how to approach a water battle. She decided to just go for it and launched forward into the lake to try out a Tackle.

The Remoraid blinked at the now very cute Shinx in front of her. Her first thought was just confusion. Then, she wondered how on earth she would be able to fight such a cute creature. All of those thoughts were practically knocked out of her, though, for the next thing she knew she was being attacked. The tackle pushed her underwater, which she did not really mind at all. However, it still hurt. She quickly swam back to the surface and sprayed a force of water at the Shinx as soon as she broke through to the surface.

Baby-Doll Eyes seemed to work well on the Remroid. Perhaps they could use it again later. Not too soon, of course. Nate had a strategy to follow. His own Pokemon got hit by Water Gun, but it did not do too much damage. It was unfortunate that his Shinx did not yet know an electric attack besides Charge, which was useless at this point. "Now Leer and Tackle!" That combination was the best they could do right now. He trusted his friend to make the most of it.
Chelsea was glad that the plan worked. She was pretty cute, wasn't she? Suddenly, there was water in her face, pushing her back slightly. <Hey!> she said as she shook her head to get rid of it. Annoying little fish. She leered at her before charging forward to try Tackle again.

The Remoraid smiled softly at her success. That seemed to make the Shinx mad, though. That wasn't very good; mad Pokemon upset her. This was a battle, though, she had to remind herself. Pokemon got angry during them. It was just how it was. She shivered at the look she was given, not liking that one bit. She knew another attack was coming and she was pretty scared from the look, so she sank down into the water until she was several feet away from the Shinx. When she was sure she was safe, and without breaking the surface again, she sent a peculiar ray, Psybeam, towards her opponent. Once that was sent, she swam to the surface to see the result. While electric types had an advantage over water types, the fishy could hide under the water. Nate had to do something about that. Right now, all he could think to do was continue to attack. "Don't give up. Tackle, once more!"
The Shinx growled at the fish when she hid under the water. <No fair!> she barked. She was hit by a strange beam, but it did not seem to do much except take a little energy. She glanced back at her trainer when he spoke. <I never give up!> She raced forward again, determined to hit her mark this time.

That cat-like Pokemon kind of scared the Remoraid. She really hoped the trainer would not try to capture her after this; what would the Shinx do to her? She would forever be apologizing for making her so upset. Thinking all this made her neglect to hide back in the water, so she felt the full force of the tackle again. It hurt worse than the last time. <Ow...> she mumbled. She sank back into the water to recover as quick as she could. When she felt better, she came back up and focused on the Shinx, making sure she would hit her with her next attack. Nate was unsure what the Remoraid was doing, but she was not using a physical attack. This was their chance to strike hard. "Use Leer and Tackle!" He wondered if he should capture this wild Pokemon after he defeated her. He did not yet have a water type, and her evolved form was pretty cool.
Chelsea nodded in satisfaction when he attack worked. She stepped out of the lake and shook her head, spraying droplets of water everywhere, though she knew she would have to go in again. She blinked at the fish's attack. What was that? Oh well. She used her best Leer before charging forward once again.

The Remoraid shivered at the look the Shinx was giving her. Why did she have to keep giving her that look? It made her sad. She winced as she was hit by another tackle. <Ow!> she squeaked. She was starting to get worn out now. There was only one way to make it stop, though, so she would push through it, no matter how much she wanted to just give up. Using Psybeam again, she sent a strange wave at the Shinx. This one would definitely hit, thanks to her Lock-On. It appeared to Nate that the battle was going well. Chelsea was getting tired, but the wild Pokemon was wearing down faster. This was good. Soon his Shinx would gain the experience she needed to learn a real electric attack. "Use Tackle again!"
When Chelsea was unable to dodge the Psybeam, she realized what had happened. That little trickster! She vowed to get her back harder. She would not be defeat! As soon as she recovered, she ran into the water to issue another Tackle.
