Gary was finally ready to go. He had made sure he was well prepared before challenging the first battle leader. It had taken him over a year, but he felt he was finally ready to go. After this win, hopefully he would be able to build on his previous training and get through the other battle leaders much more quickly. After all, he did not want to stay in school for eight years! His face shone with confidence as he entered the room. "Jenna!" he called out as he looked around the battle field. This place was not bad. "I'm here to challenge you!" He hoped she would not take long to show up. He wanted to get this battle going!

Jenna heard someone calling her, and she was quick to step into the room. "Welcome!" she said to Gary. "I will be happy to accept your challenge." She stepped up to her side of the battlefield. "It will be a three on three battle with substitutions. You may have the first move." She thought for a second before taking out a Pokeball. "Sparkles, come on out!" A beautiful Butterfree appeared before her. Both trainer and Pokemon were excited to get going.

Gary stepped up tot he battlefield. "Thank you." Jenna was a bug type trainer, and it looked like her first Pokemon was a Butterfree. The Kanto member decided to use a bug type as well. "Come on out, June!" The tiny Joltik appeared in a flash of light. She may have been small, but she had proven herself to be strong. "Let's start off with String Shot!"
June peered nervously up at the Butterfree. Her opponent did not look too scary, and she was a bug just like her. Maybe she could do this! String Shot was an easy enough attack to start off with. She zeroed in on the Butterfree and then shot out a sticky string to slow her down.

A bug type against a bug type? That was an interesting decision. Of course, Butterfree was also a flying type and Joltik an electric type, so June did have a slight advantage. No matter; she was still going to give him a great battle. "Your turn, Sparkles. Use Confusion!"
Sparkles watched the Joltik curiously. It was such a cute little thing. She wanted to be friends, but she knew they had to battle. She was surprised by the String Shot that suddenly covered her body. She was used to using that attack herself, not having it used against her! In retaliation, she sent weird waves at the little bug.

"Dodge it!" Gary called. Thankfully, the String Shot had slowed down the Butterfree, and June was able to get out of the way. Now it was time for her to strike. "Now use Thunder Wave!" He was sure this would hit. The battle was going well so far.
June felt proud of herself for getting the Butterfree caught up in hr web. Her opponent was much slower now, so she was able to dodge the Confusion attack. After scurrying around a bit, she stopped and sent out a Thunder Wave at the flying type.

Jenna frowned slightly when the Joltik dodged the confusion. They would just have to try again later. "Dodge!" she called out when the Thunder Wave started to come her Pokemon's way. Sparkles was still a bit too slow, though, so she was struck. All right. It was time to stop fooling around. The battle was only beginning. "You can do it, Sparkles. Use Stun Spore!" It would be good if they could get their opponent to have paralysis, which would last the whole battle.
Sparkles tried to dodge the Thunder Wave, but she was too slow. That was a strange move for a bug. She shook the remaining string off of her and readied herself for another attack. She scattered a cloud of paralyzing powder all over as she flew above the Joltik, hoping to give her paralysis. Unfortunately, the Thunder Wave had not paralyzed their target, and now the Butterfree was trying to immobilize June. "Can you move?" He called out to her. He relaxed when he saw her wiggle a little. She could attack for now. Leech Life would not be the best move to use at this point, but she only knew one other damaging move. How was she supposed to get way up there? Then he had an idea. "June, use Spider Web but don't let go! Use the web to climb up to the Butterfree and then use Fury Cutter!"
June froze when she felt the glittering powder hit her. What was that stuff supposed to do? Her little body felt weird, but she could move it when her trainer asked her to. All she could do was keep battling. Spider Web sounded like a fun move! She tuned toward the flying type and aimed carefully before sending her Spider Web flying at her. If it secured, she would climb up it and attempt to use Fury Cutter when she got close enough.

Jenna grew excited when she saw the Joltik was struck with paralysis. She still seemed able to move, though. That was fine. It would eventually prevent her from attacking at least once. Every little thing counted. "Dodge it, Sparkles!" She grinned at her Pokemon's success. "That's a pretty good idea," she said to Gary. "I look forward to seeing it succeed." But that would not be this time! "Sparkles, use Confusion!" It was time for a damaging move.
Sparkles looked down at the tiny bug, wondering how she was going to attack her. Spider Web? She flew out of the way just before it could catch her. That was close! She flew down a little closer so as to have a better aim and sent a weak telekinetic force towards the little Joltik.

Gary appreciated the compliment that Jenna gave him. "Thank you," he said. He was impressed with her as well. Her Butterfree was certainly fast. This was going to be a great battle. His Joltik had finally gotten hit, but this gave them the chance to use an attack he had been saving for this situation. "Use String Shot against the wall and use it to fling yourself on the Butterfree, and then use Leech Life!"
June was disappointed that the plan did not work. How was she supposed to reach the Butterfree now? She was too distracted by her own thoughts to notice the Confusion attack. She felt her energy drain. At least she could still move. She took a deep breath before attempting her next moves. She aimed her String Shot on at the wall, causing it to successfully stick. She then ran and attempted to swing herself up in the air, aiming at the flying bug type. If she succeeded, she would suck the blood out of the Butterfree.

Jenna liked this student's thinking. Despite the little Joltik's disadvantage of not being able to fly or use a damaging move that did not require contact, he was coming up with pretty clever ways to get around that. "Try to dodge it, Sparkles!" She was impressed that the smaller bug type had been able to attach herself to the other. Leech Life, huh? Bug type moves were weak against other bug types, so it shouldn't do too much damage. It was just hard to get away from it. She wondered if shaking her off would be effective at all. If she couldn't, then she couldn't attack. "Use Poison Powder and then fly partially into it while upside down!" It may not make her let go, but at least she would be consumed by the powder.
Sparkles attempted to fly away but the Joltik was too fast. She blinked when she felt her on her back. What was she doing? <Ouch!> she exclaimed as her energy (blood) was mysteriously draining. When it was over, she released poison powder below her. She turned upside down and flew into it so that she did not get struck with it but the Joltik did. Gary smirked when his plan worked. Now that he had June on the Butterfree, he was not about to let her get off. Even if she risked damage by staying there, it was better than trying to get back on in the future. All of her attacks required physical contact, so her best shot at winning was to stay in her current position. He would make the best of it. Jenna seemed to be thinking the same thing. There was little they could do to avoid this attack, so he focused on their own moves. "You're fine, June. Screech and then use Furry Cutter!" This should be the most effective combination they had.
June could hardly believe she had actually done it. She was on top of the Butterfree, and now she was flying! It was so great to be up here so high, feeling free. Her excitement soon faded when she realized her opponent was attacking back. She coughed as the poisonous powder fill her lungs. She started to panic when she realized she was losing energy. Her trainer's words calmed her only slightly. She took a deep breath before letting out a terrifying Screech. Her own attack boosted her confidence. It was easy to hang onto the Butterfree because her String Shot was keeping her secured. This allowed her to raise her claws and attack with Furry Cutter.

Jenna was pretty fascinated by how this battle was progressing. She had never encountered an opponent that attached itself to her Butterfree before. It made her wonder how it would end. She covered her ears as the Joltik let out a screech. Wow, that was loud and painful. Hopefully, Sparkles was alright. Seeing as she had no way to dodge, she did not tell her to. She had to think about how to get Confusion to work. First, though, they would try this. "Use Sleep Powder just like you used Poisonpowder!" Maybe she would fall off if she fell asleep. When Sparkles did not do anything, she frowned.
Sparkles cringed at the loud screeching noise. What was that? She was glad when it was over. However, she then felt pain in her back from the Furry Cutter. This was not fair. She couldn't dodge! She tried to spread her Sleep Powder, but she could not move. She was paralyzed!

Gary was glad that this was all going so well. It was just unfortunate that his Joltik was poisoned. He would make up for it by mostly using their strongest attack. He was pleased when the Butterfree appeared to not be able to move. She was paralyzed! Then it hit him. If she could not move, she could not flap her wings to stay in the air. Both she and June were going to crash. "Use String Shot on the ceiling and attach it to the wbe on your body!" Not only would this prevent them from falling, but it would also make it difficult for the Butterfree to move around in the air once she was free.. "Now Furry Cutter again!"
That attack had actually been quite fun. June was getting more comfortable with this battling thing. It help that she was up against a non-threatening bug type, and they were flying! Suddenly, she felt them start to descend. What was going on? Oh, her paralysis was starting to work! She took inher trainer's words, which calmed her before she could freeze up. That just might work. She cold totally do this! She aimed her String Shot at the ceiling, causing them to come to a screechig halt in the air. Then she attached the gooey string to her feet so her mouth would be free. Once she was sure she was safe, she began another Furry Cutter attack.

Jenna was very impressed in how the student was able to quickly think and put into action a plan to keep the two Pokemon from crashing. It would have worked in her favor if they had crashed, but she could make due with this. It was always great when students presented a challenge. There was no use in telling her paralyzed Butterfree to dodge the oncoming attack. With every successive strike, that attack was getting stronger and stronger. Looking at the string that was attached to the ceiling in a contemplative manner, Jenna ran ideas through her head. Sparkles was not paralyzed now, so they would try her first idea. "Aim Confusion at the ceiling but fly up to the ceiling and turn upside down!" Hopefully, she would be able to get there in time for the attack to hit the Joltik.
Sparkles was starting to feel weaker and weaker the more that Furry Cutter hit her. She was glad she was no longer paralyzed by the time her next turn came around. She listened to her trainer's instructions carefully before acting on them. Looking up at the ceiling, she sent forth a weak telekinetic force. Then she flew up to the ceiling as fast as she could and turned upside down so that the Joltik on her back would be struck by it.

Gary was determined to finished this round as strong as possible. It did not seem like Jenna had any ideas to shake June off of the Butterfree's back, so he would not worry about that for now. The Joltik was being hit by attacks, but she was currently in her best position to attack herself. He could use Leech Life, but he was not sure how much good that would do in the long run. He decided to just stick with their most powerful attack. If she lost, she would at least have gotten in a good deal of damage. "Now use Screech and Furry Cutter!"
June held on tightly as the Butterfree flew upside down. What was she doing? Then she understood. She shivered as the attack passed through her. When was this battle going to be over? She could still feel the poison, and she just wanted it all the end. She knew one of them winning would do it, so she continued to fight back as hard as she could. She let out a loud shriek before starting up Fury Cutter again.
