Kiki eyed the Mankey warily. This one was certainly excitable... if not a bit angry. Oh well. A virtual Pokemon was a virtual Pokemon. "Alright, Cody, let's start off with Tackle." It was the only damaging move he knew, and she wanted to see how effective it was without adding Leer. If successful, he would learn a better attack after this battle.
The Mankey's attitude did not affect the Lillipup. <Hi!> he said, even though the Pokemon was not real. He wagged his tail excitedly as he got his first order.<Tackle? Alright!> He bounded toward the Mankey almost as if he were playfully running across an open field. When he got closer, he lowered his head and aimed to use Tackle.

This particular program had a “personality”, but not enough artificial intelligence to really respond to conversation. It didn’t get any angrier at the lillipup’s greeting, so that was something, right? It did get pretty hissy upon being tackled. It didn’t even give the lillipup a proper breathing time’s response before it started scratching at the other pokemon. Yes… there was that infamous mankey aggression! level: 6 attacks: focus energy, leer, low kick, scratch, covet abilities: vital spirit, anger point, defiant hit by: tackle used: scratch health: green

Kiki winced when the Mankey started using Scratch. At least it was a normal type move and would not do too much damage. "Get out of there, Cody!" She needed him to back away so that they could use their own moves. "Try Leer and Tackle!" Hopefully this would work a little bit better.
Cody grinned excitedly when his attack worked. However, a second later, he was struck by the Scratch attack. <Hey!> he cried. He was able to scramble out of the way of any further damage. He glared at the Mankey and gave it a good Leer. This monkey was going down! He charged at the virtual Pokemon again with more force this time. Fun and games were over.

The attack did more damage. The mankey skidded back a bit before jumping up and down, chattering like crazy. The words were all jibberish though, obviously sound bites of real mankeys thrown together to give the simulation a more realistic feel for the humans. After getting over its anger with a few huffs, the mankey ran at the lillipup before swinging its short back legs around for a low kick. level: 6 attacks: focus energy, leer, low kick, scratch, covet abilities: vital spirit, anger point, defiant hit by: tackle, leer used: low kick health: low green

Kiki could see what the Mankey was going to do before he had completed the move. "Quick, dodge it and use Tackle!" There was no time to do anything else at the moment. It did not look like this guy was going to go down easy. She hoped her Lillipup would be able to hang in there.
Cody had jumped back after completing his Tackle. When the Mankey's leg came near him, he jumped into the air, barely missing it. He continued to run forward before making a loop around. He growled as he attempted another Tackle. He did not like this guy one bit.

The mankey’s arms wheeled around as it teetered after the last tackle. It screeched nonsense again. After a moment, it grew incredible calm. The artificial air even grew tense. It was using focus energy! Better prepared to perhaps land a critical hit, the mankey clammered towards the lillipup, readying its claws for another scratch attack. level: 6 attacks: focus energy, leer, low kick, scratch, covet abilities: vital spirit, anger point, defiant hit by: tackle used: scratch, focus energy health: high yellow

Kiki did not like it when the Mankey calm. That could not mean anything good. "Watch out," she said warningly to her Pokemon. This was not time to start worrying too much, but they still had to be carefully. "Try to get out of the way. Then use Leer and Tackle." Hopefully with Leer, they would be able to do a little more damage. Honestly, the Mankey creeped her out a little. If she ever saw a real one in the wild, she hoped it would be more appealing than this one.
Cody eyed the Mankey calmly as it just stood there. What was it doing? His eyes grew wide when it came towards him again. Time to get out of there! Unfortunately, he was not able to dodge this time. He clenched his teeth as the pain seared through his body, doing a little more damage than the last time. He manged to jump forward a foot, and he turned around and used Leer against the Mankey. Then he tried to get in a Tackle from close range.

The mankey didn’t react to the leer, though the programming itself acknowledged the move and made adjustments to the fighting type’s defense stat. The little long legged butterball did roll backwards when hit with the lillipup’s tackle. The attack hadn’t been critical, but it was probably for the best. It would have activate one of the mankey’s abilities. Rather it stood to return volley with a covet attack. level: 6 attacks: focus energy, leer, low kick, scratch, covet abilities: vital spirit, anger point, defiant hit by: tackle, leer used: covet health: low yellow

The battle looked pretty close, but the Lillipup appeared to be at a slight advantage because he had been the one to attack first. Unless something drastic happened, Kiki thought they would be fine. "Alright, use Tackle again." It was really the only thing they could do, but the point of training was to increase in ability and skill, right?
Cody backed away when the Mankey stood up after being tackled. He flinched as he took damage from the Covet. That was no good. He wished he could learn bite already. He longed to use his jaws for something other than eating. Alas, all he could do was continue to tackle and hope it would have a great effect over time. As he was several feet away, he ran straight for the Mankey. <I hope this one hurts!> He still did not really understand this his opponent was merely a simulation.

The lillipup managed a critical hit. The mankey went ballastic as its anger point ability was activated. Yes, whatever programmer designed this one obviously got entirely too into it. The chattering was now quite obviously from several different real mankeys, the recordings lazily spliced together. The mankey swept its leg out towards the lillipup, low kicking once more. level: 6 attacks: focus energy, leer, low kick, scratch, covet abilities: vital spirit, anger point, defiant hit by: tackle used: low kick health: red

Kiki blinked at the Mankey as it kind of lost. It looked like someone had fun programming this particular Pokemon. She wondered if it was saying anything intelligible. At any rate, it would not be good if its attack hit Cody. They would have to act quickly. "Dodge it and use Tackle one last time!" This could be their last chance. She hoped her Lillipup had enough strength left to complete the task.
Cody stared at the Mankey oddly. Why was it speaking gibberish? Obviously, it had a few screws loose. Maybe one too many apples had fallen on its head. He snapped out of it when he heard his trainer's voice. Dodge, right. He accomplished the task by running a circle around the Mankey, hoping to make it dizzy and disoriented. At the last second it turned towards it to smash into it.

Rather than actually hitting the ground after being hit by the final tackle, the mankey’s pixels separated and disappeared. It had been defeated. ”Congratulations, you have won. Take your helmets off if you are finished.” Though, considering that there was a rare candy waiting on Kiki and Cody, it was unlikely they would stick around to see what oddities the program had left to show them. Cody earned 2 levels! Cody learned bite! Earned 15 points! Earned a rare candy!

Cody stared as the Mankey broke apart and disappeared. He guessed it had not been real after all. Oh well. This meant he won! He turned around and grinned at his trainer. <I did it!> He wagged his tail happily before bounding after her. <That was fun.> Still, it would have been better if he had been up against a real Pokemon. He loved meeting others. Maybe he could make friends later.
Kiki let out a sigh of relief. That had been a close one. For a second there, she thought her Lillipup was going to be knocked out. She smiled at the puppy. He had performed really well, and he was great at dodge. With a little more training, he would be just fine. "Good work, buddy. You can take a rest now." She took the helmets off of both of them and then returned him to his Pokeball. She waited int he now-normal room for the rare candy she knew would appear. She would have to think carefully about how to use the candies she had to take full advantage of them.

A rare candy waits in the slot on the wall. It's only one, but it's a nice enough reward after a good work out.

Kiki smiled when she saw the wall open up. She walked over to it and picked out the rare candy. She looked it over before putting it in her pocket. This would come in good use later. Then she turned and walked out of the virtual training room. Her work here was done. OOC: finished
