OOC: This thread is for Faith and Zoey's battle. In roleplay time this will occur after Kiki and Nate's battle. Faith will post first. She will also have the first move.
IC: After the break between the battles, Principal Sash once again made her way onto the stage. "Thank you for waiting," she said. "Now give it up for Faith from Hoenn and Zoey from Kanto!" As she returned to her seat, she wondered who would win this battle and face off against the first battle victor.

Faith was glad she had made it past the appeals round and now was onto the battle round. She was eager to earn her second ribbon at Cherilli Academy. She had lost her last contest, but she had worked hard since then, and she knew she could do it this time. She was dressed in the same attire as before as she strolled onto the stage. "Ziggy, it's your time to shine!" She tossed a Pokeball in the air. The Kecleon appeared, did a flip in the air, and landed on his tongue, which held the rest of his body up. He then hopped to his feet and took a battle stance. Ziggy had gotten her this far, so she decided to stick with him. She knew his cool moves and determined attitude would help her win. Zoey walked onto the stage again. She was surprised but happy she had made it to the battle round. She thought this would be a great chance to get some training in. She had trained in the virtual machines a lot, but she had not done much battling with other trainers. She looked forward to this experience. "Say hello, Waffles!" she said as she tossed a Pokeball. She smiled when her Chimchar appeared. He posted, looking ready for the contest battle. Her opponent's Kecleon made her wary, but she had confidence in her fire-type. The aim was not necessarily to make their opponent faint; it was to show off their own skills and strength. Waffles' fire-type moves were going to be helpful in showing that, in her opinion.

"Hello," Faith greeted her opponent when she arrived. She thought it was best to be nice and polite in battles. That way, losing was not as bad. It was good for there to be respect between trainers. She took a moment to look over the Chimchar. She bet he had some impressive fire attacks. She would be on the lookout for that, and she would try to do better with her Kecleon. "Ziggy, let's start off by using Ancient Power." She knew he had this down and would perform well.
Ziggy followed his trainer's lead and nodded at the Chimchar. <Good luck.> He was not going to go easy on him. He was pleased with the way he had performed in the appeals round, and he was determined to show how good he was at battling. He started to form his power while running forward. Then he did a small leap in the air and sent Ancient Power straight at his opponent. Zoey smiled at her opponent. "Hi." She had the first move, so she waited for what she would do. Once she called out a move, she tried to think quickly as to what to do. "Dodge!" she said, but Waffles was unable to do so. That was a strong move against him. Taking a deep breath, Zoey did her best to think calmly about how to proceed. "Waffles, Leer and then use Ember!" Before the contest, she had tried to teach her Chimchar how to use his moves in a way that looked cool to observers. She was not sure how well it would work, though.
Waffles gave the Kecleon a smile at his words. <Thanks! You too!> He wondered if he had done this before. He sure hadn't! His trainer and he had done their best to train, even though neither of them were quite sure what to expect. His eyes widened when the Kecleon jumped into the air. What was he doing? He was unable to dodge in time, so Ancient Power struck him hard. He tried to shake it off and listen to what his trainer told him. He gave Ziggy a Leer before opening his mouth to send embers at him. He did this by jumping to various places around his opponent so that the Ember hit him in different directions.

Faith smiled when she saw the effectiveness of the attack. She knew that one would be good. Zoey's response was pretty cool, though. She chose not to tell her Kecleon to dodge. In the long run, it would do them more good than bad to be hit by a fire attack. She could use her secret weapon right now, but she had learned from a previous battle that it might be better to save it for later. "Ziggy, use Astonish!" She thought this move was pretty cool looking.
The attack worked just like Ziggy expected. Everything was going according to plan. He remained calm and relaxed as the Chimchar attacked by. The Leer made him freeze for a second, and he stood still as he was hit by fire balls. He winced slightly before shaking it off. He wa strong. He could do this. And now he was a fire type. He hoped that would be useful later. Now he bounded forward lightly on all four feet. When he got close to the Chimchar, he stood up and shouted at him while raising his hands up to look scary. Zoey was glad Ember worked so well. The Kecleon seemed to be stronger, though. She had a plan about how to get around that, though it would have a wait a while. Only when Waffles was weak enough would he truly be able to show off the strength and beauty of his fire moves. "Jump up!" she called out when the Kecleon was attempting to attack. The way he was scaring him as well as attacking made the move look pretty cool. Waffles was able to get away by jumping, though. "Now Leer and Scratch!" she said while he was still in the air.
Waffles stared at the Kecleon warily, worried about it coming so close the way it did. It was scary looking, but he did not flinch from it. Before he could attack, the Chimchar jumped up as high as he could into the sky with a little cheer. As he came back down, he sent his opponent a sharp Leer and swiped both of his hands at him. His trainer had thought it would be better for him to use both of his hands to Scratch than just one.
Level: 8 Attacks: Scratch, Leer, Ember Abilities: Blaze, Iron Fist Egg Move: Blaze Kick Hit By: Used: Leer, Scratch Health: High Yellow Points: 71 OOC: Would Protean not make him a ghost type then, counteracting him becoming a fire type?

Faith watched calmly to see what would happen. It was quite impressive for the Chimchar to be able to avoid an attack that usually always hit. Their attack looked pretty cool as well. The fire type was coming in too quickly to dodge, so she held her breath and waited to speak. "You're fine, Ziggy," she finally said. "Use Tail Whip and Bind." She thought two tail attacks would work well together. Plus, she really needed to get in some more damaged, and this seemed like the best way.
Zippy was surprised that the Chimchar got out of the way before he could use Astonish, which was usually a pretty quick attack. It seemed like he was dealing with a pro here. He backed away when the monkey came down on him, but there was nothing he could do to avoid the attack. He took a step back so that he had room to get on all fours. He raised his tail and wagged it back and forth. Then he quickly twisted around and attempted to grab the Chimchar with his tail. Zoey did not have enough time to tell her Chimchar to watch out for the next move the Kecleon used. His tail was pretty long, so it was easy to get a hold of Waffles. That looked like a good grip he had there; that was a problem. She did not know how much Waffles could take of that. "Use Leer, and then use Ember all over him, including the tail!" she said, hoping it would work. The Kecleon might be able to take it, but this was all they could do. The only good thing was that the Kecleon could not dodge.
Waffles became fascinated with the tail of the Kecleon. He had never seen such a tail as that before! He let out a monkey squeal when that tail wrapped around him. <Hey!> He tried to squirm out, but it was no use. Frowning, he sent a Leer at the Kecleon. He shot out ember at the tail as well as at any other part of his opponent. That's what he got for trapping him!

OOC: Astonish is a ghost type move. Protean says that it becomes a pure Pokemon of the type of the move it is using. That would mean Ziggy would be a ghost type because he's using Astonish, which counteracts how Color Change changes him into the type of the move that last hit him. The two abilities contradict each other.
I fail to see where it states that Astonish is a super hard move to dodge... The only thing I see is that its accuracy is 100%, but pretty much all (or at least most) moves have 100% accuracy. Tackle has 100% accuracy, but that is a move that is frequently dodged.

Faith was pleased that her plan was working so far. Ziggy has a good hold of the Chimchar, and now Zoey was calling for a fire attack. She knew there was no way to dodge, and she did not want to. Now was the time to try out her favorite move, and she had added some extra flair for the contest! "Now, Ziggy, throw him and then use Synchronoise!" This should work well. She wondered if her opponent would be able to come up with something creative to combat it.
Ziggy held onto the Chimchar tightly once his tail was wrapped around him. He planned to hold on until his trainer told him to let go. He clenched his teeth as he endured the Ember attack. That hurt a lot! Since it was close range, he could feel that it had done a good amount of damage. Still, he refused to let go. It was a struggle, but he attempted to toss the Chimchar in the air. Whether he succeeded or ended up just letting go of the Pokemon, he would then send odd sound waves throughout the field. Level: 10 Attacks: Synchronoise, Ancient Power, Thief, Astonish, Lick, Scratch, Bind, Feint Attack Abilities: Color Change, ProteanHit By: Leer, Ember Used: Synchronoise Health: High Red Points: 42 OOC: ... That is not how I read it at all. Maybe you're right, but it's confusing by the way it's worded. If anything I thought it was redundant and saying the same thing as the first ability. I thought meant he changed into the attack that his opponent is about to do, not him. It makes no sense for them to contradict. Also, what's with the predicting the future? How can his body know what he's going to do before he does it? I can just ignore Protean. Color change is a lot more logical, and that's the main one I've been using. I wasn't looking at accuracy. Again, I may be interpreting it wrong, but I always read the attack as being about the shouting, which is hard to dodge, and not physical contact. I've never seen the attack in the anime, so it's hard to know what it actually looks like. Since it's a ghost attack, though, and ghosts can't really make solid contact with someone, I've always assumed it was the shouting that was the attack.

Zoey bit her lip at Faith's next command. She was unfamiliar with that move, but she did not feel good about it at all. Throw him? She thought quickly and said, "Get free and use Blaze Kick on your way down!" That would make Waffles look really cool, and it would also get in some damage, no matter how little. She just hoped he would be able to strike before he fainted, which she was worried he would do any moment now.
Waffles frowned when the Kecleon still did not let go. His eyes widened when his opponent's trainer spoke. <Throw me?> He closed his eyes in fright as he was tossed. His own trainer's words calmed him, though, and made him find courage to continue on even in the air. He wiggled free of the tail and aimed his right leg at the Kecleon. Fire blazed and consumed his leg as he fell back down on him. As he fell, he cried out at the pain caused from the Kecleon's attack. It was too strong to fight off, so as soon as he made contact with the Kecleon or floor, he fainted.
Level: 8 Attacks: Scratch, Leer, Ember Abilities: Blaze, Iron Fist Egg Move: Blaze Kick Hit By: Tail Whip, Bind Used: Blaze Kick Health: -- Points: 0
OOC: Okay. Maybe the Pokemon only has one of the abilities and it just depends on the individual Pokemon? I've never been super knowledgeable about abilities and why one of them is hidden and others are not.
Ah. It is a contact move, though. I looked it up. They shout and attack. The shouting part is what could possible cause the opponent to flinch (which makes them unable to attack).
They can still have points even when they've fainted, right? BTW, I really hope Faith wins because she's better at this.

Faith saw what Zoey was doing. She knew her own Pokemon was tired, and she was not sure if he could withstand it. "Try to dodge!" she called. The attack hit anyway. In the end, Ziggy was still standing, but the Chimchar had fainted. The young girl let out a breath of relief. She had done it. She had won. She grinned down at her Kecleon. "Way to go, Ziggy! You were great." That had been quite the battle.
Zippy looked up to see the Chimchar coming down on him with a flaming leg. Since when did he know that attack? He was still a fire type from his ability, so it would not be as strong as normal, but he still wanted to get away. Unfortunately, there was no time for that. He collapsed on the ground from the pressure of the move. He struggled to stand up, but he made it. Then he looked in surprise to see that his opponent had fainted. He turned to Faith and smirked. <Yes. That was fun.> He loved winning contests. Level: 10 Attacks: Synchronoise, Ancient Power, Thief, Astonish, Lick, Scratch, Bind, Feint Attack Abilities: Color Change, ProteanHit By: Blaze Kick Used: Health: Low Red Points: 20 OOC: Yeah, maybe. They seem to only have one ability in the anime. I see. That's good to know for the future. If a Pokemon faints, the coordinator automatically loses and points go to 0. If they faint at the same time, it's a tie. Faith learned from her mom. It's good Zoey gave it a shot though.

Zoey thought Waffles' Blaze Kick made a great show when it struck the Kecleon. However, as soon as the Kecleon's move took effect, her Chimchar collapsed and fainted. That saddened Zoey, but she brushed it away. This had just been for fun; she had already set her eyes on the path of the Battle Leaders. The contest was good experience for her, and she knew she had learned a lot from it. She returned Waffles to his Pokeball and walked over to Faith. "Good job," she said with a smile. "Your Kecleon is really cool. I loved all of your move combinations." Her opponent had really deserved to win. She thought she had done great. She hoped she would be able to get as good at battling as Faith was at contests.
OOC: Oh. Then what's the point of the points?

Faith has earned 45 points for Team Hoenn!
Ziggy has gained 4 levels! He may now know Feint.
Waffles has gained 1 level! He now knows Taunt. OOC: Tell me if this is wrong. I hope it's right. Why do they gain so many levels for winning a contest? Ziggy was two levels above, yet he gains 3 levels for beating Waffles.

OOC: The contest can end before either of them faints. That's how it often happens in the anime. There is a time limit. The person with the most points at the end wins.
I honestly forgot about the special rules for contests and have been using the rules for battle leaders. I've given out three levels before. I may have been thinking that gaining two levels for defeating a Pokemon makes sense. Two of the levels gained are for special contest skills and the other two are for battle skills. That way there is more learned in contests because there's more to them. Does that make sense? We can open it up for discussion if you think it should be three.
