Nate did not have any dreams of becoming a Pokemon master. He was not planning on challenging gym leaders once he graduated Cherilli Academy. However, he knew plans could change, and he wanted to be ready for any possibility. He would embrace all opportunities and learn from them. That was why, when he first arrived in Nacrene City on the Unova field trip, he headed straight for the gym. He wanted the experience of battling a gym leader at least once. The opportunity excited him. Watcher the Umbreon trotted by his side, smiling amiably. The two of them were ready for anything. The boy approached the gym and slipped inside. "Lenora?" he called. "I'm from Cherilli Academy, and I challenge you to a gym battle!" He hoped she had some time to spare. |

Lenora strode into the gym, a small smirk on her face. "You're challenging me?" She looked the boy up and down. "Alright, let's get started. Go Herdier!" She tossed a Pokeball in the air, and a shaggy dog appeared. She crossed her arms and waited for the boy to make a move. She was looking forward to evaluating the skills of a student from Cherilli Academy. Nate smiled when Lenora made herself known. "It is a pleasure to meet you." He grew excited at the thought of his gym battle. Now, which Pokemon should he choose? He soon decided. "Chelsea, you're up!" The Shinx appeared with a flash of light. "Start off with Spark!"
Chelsea bouced on her paws. She was itching for a good battle! She did not care that her opponent was a big dog. She would still get him! She focused her electrical energy for a moment before letting it loose. Lenora watched in amusement. "Not bad. Let's see if you can handle this. Take Down!" She loved a good battle. She liked to test her opponents and make them fight their hardest. She could tell this was going to be a great experience.
Herdier growled. He had a distace of electric types. He was not skilled enough to dodge the attack, and he grimaced when he felt elecgtricity run through is body. He would have to make up for that with a tough move of his own! He ran forward as fast as his legs could carry him. Nate knew this battle would be tough to win. Take Down was a powerful move, and he did not know if his Shinx was fast enough to dodge it. He would have to make the best of this situation. "Get down low and use Bite!"
Chelsea glared at the shaggy dog. She did not like him at all. She watched as he quickly came at her. She slid onto the ground so that it would be hard to attack her. She received the brunt of the attack, but she opened her jaws and attempted to latch onto the Herdier in the process. Lenora thought that the Shinx was holding up pretty well. She could tell she was up against a tough opponent. "Herider, you use Bite as well!" She wondered who would turn out to be stronger.
Herdier veered to the left, but the Shinx came on him fast. He growled as he felt teeth sink into his skin. Two could play that game! He spun around like he was chasing his tail and attempted to bite down on the cat. Nate was glad that the two Pokemon were close together. Now he could use a stronger attack. "Chelsea, use Spark!" He could tell that both of them were wearing down. He knew his Shinx was strong and would be the last one standing.
Chelsea smirked when she bit into the Herdier. As soon as she let go, she felt someone bite her. Growling, she stood her ground. She would make him pay for this! She took in a deep breatha nd then let out a powerful wave of electricity. Lenora thought it was time to use her most powerful move. That Shinx was tough, and she wanted to see how she would handle this. "Herider, use Take Down!" Recoil damage would be done, but it would be worth it.
Herdier shuddered when he felt electricity course through him. He then glared at the Shinx. He wanted to take her down. Luckily, his next move was designed to do just that. He ran towards her as fast as his little legs would carry him. Nate knew this next attack would do a lot of damage. He glanced at his Pokemon and understood what she wanted to do. He did not know if this would work, but they were going all out. "Chelsea, now use Leer and Bite!"
Chelsea glared at the Herdier. She was not intimidated by him. She knew she was quickly loosing energy, but there was always a chance for her to come back and win. She stood her ground and leered at her opponent. She opened her jaws just as she was struck. Then she attempted to clamp down on the Herdier's flank. "Your Shinx certainly has spunk," Lenora said. She admired the way the electric type charged right ahead without any fear. It would take some work to defeat her. "Herdier, Bite!"
Herdier howled as he and the Shinx ran into each other. He was pushed back and fell over. That was quite a hit. He slowly stood up. He was losing steam now, so he had to make this next move count. Nate could tell this was going to be a close battle. He had to trust in his Pokemon and grant her her wishes. "Chelsea, Spark!" He knew he had it in her to accomplish the task.
THe Shinx stood her ground against the Herdier. She did not like running away. She was going to beat this guy through her own skill and strength. Right before he hit her, she put everything into one more Spark attack. She winced as she was bitten but relieved that she retained some energy. Herdier had no way to dodge the oncoming electricity. He cried out as he was struck but became silent upon the completion of the attack. He fell limp on the floor.
Lenora smiled sadly as she returned Herdier to his Pokeball. "Good battling, Herdier." She nodded at Nate. "You're not half bad, kid. Let's see how you handle my second Pokemon. Wachog! Use Tackle!" The Shinx was tough, but she could not last much longer.
Wachog bared her fangs at the electric type. <Are you ready to rumble?> Without waiting for a response, she dashed forward. The Shinx looked weak, so she knew she could defeat her target! Chelsea smirked when the Herdier fainted. She knew she would do it! Unfortunately, she was at her end as well. As soon as she was struck by the Patrat's Tackle, she fainted.
"Great work, Chelsea," Nate said, pulling out her Pokeball. "Take a rest now." She had done everything he had asked of her. Now it was time for his second Pokemon. He smiled down at his Umbreon. "Shadow, you're up. Let's start off with Shadow Ball!"
Shadow appreciated the chance to watch and get a feel for their opponent. He felt ready as he stepped onto the battlefield. <Ready?> he said to the Patrat. He formed energy in his mouth and released it in the form of a purple ball. Lenora nodded in satisfaction. That Shinx had fought hard, and she knew the challenger should be proud of their combined efforts. Now she wondered how the Umbreon would fare. She could already tell the two of them were quite close. "Alright, use Crunch!"
Watchog smirked to herself. She was the best, wasn't she? Her new opponent did not intimidate her in the least. Unfortunately, she was caught off guard by his Shadow Ball. She glared at him as she ran in his direction. He would pay for that! Level: 18 Attacks: Rototiller, Tackle, Hypnosis, Crunch, Leer, Bite, Sand Attack, Bide Abilities: Illuminate, Keen Eye, Analytic Hit By: Shadow Ball Used: Crunch Health: Green/Low Green Shinx has gained one level. Nate locked eyes with his Umbreon and nodded. He had idea he knew the Pokemon shared. "Alright, run, jump, and use Swift!" This was something they had practiced for contests, but he was sure it would work well for a gym battle too.
Watcher prepared himself for his attack. He waited until the Patrat was in the middle of the room, and then he started to run as well. When there was a few feet between them, he hurled himself into the air. He looked down and shot out his Swift at the Pokemon below him. Then he landed neatly on his feet.
