Nate had second thoughts about that head-on Tackle. Both Pokemon had taken the same amount of damage, but he needed to figure out a way to get on top. That Bite could be bad news. "Dodge it and use Tackle!" He was unsure what to do to make the move look good for a contest. The Shinx really needed to learn an electric move.
Chelsea zipped out of the way just in time. She was glad to have avoided the Lillipup's jaws! She ran around in a tight semi-circle. Then she headed for Cody to strike him again. <Take this!>

Kiki gritted her teeth when the Shinx managed to dodge. Cody had been struck again by the Tackle. It was time to take this up a notch. They could not afford anymore mistakes. "Cody, use Leer and Bite!" Hopefully it would work this time.
Cody was confused when his attack missed. Huh? Where did she go? He let out a yelp of surprise when he was tackled from the side. <No fair,> he mumbled. He hopped to his feet and gave Chelsea an intimidating Leer. That would teach her to mess with him! He ran forward again to attempt another Bite. He was determined not to miss this time.

Nate clenched his teeth when his Pokemon was bitten by Kiki's. This was not good. One more hit and it would be over. They did not have too many options, so he had to stick with their toughest combination. "Hang in there, Chelsea. Use Leer and Tackle!"
Chelsea attempted to run away from Cody, but he got to her quickly and bit her. She bit her tongue to hide her pain. She did not want to look weak. It would be a challenge to beat this Lillipup, but she lived for challenged. She managed to get out a Leer before running at the puppy again for yet another Tackle.

Kiki watched as her Pokemon was hit by the Tackle. It did not look like either side would be able to go on for much longer. This was going to be it. She hesitated using Tackle the normal way because Chelsea could attack at the same time again, resulting in a tie if both Pokemon fainted. Watcher's running gave her an idea. "Alright, Cody, running around in a circle around Chelsea for awhile, and then Tackle her."
Cody liked the sound of running even though he did not have much energy left. He wanted to win for his trainer, so he would give it a try. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly before beginning. He zipped towards the Shinx. He ran around her several times, and then he suddenly darted to the right in an attempt to hit her. Would it work?

Chelsea spun around as the Lillipup ran circles around her. What was he doing? She could not watch his movements fast enough, and she ended up being hit by his Tackle. She collapsed on the ground, fainted.
"No! Chelsea!" Nate exclaimed when he saw the Shinx faint. He rushed forward to pick her up. He gave her a soft smile as he carried her in his arms. "You fought well. Take a rest." He managed to get an arm free to return her to her Pokeball. Then he turned to Kiki and Cody. "Good battle. Both of you fought well."

Chelsea is unable to battle. Cody is the winner, and victory goes to Kiki. Cody has gained three levels. He now knows Baby-Doll Eyes and Helping Hand. Chelsea has gained one level. Kiki has earned 70 points for Team Johto. |

<I did it?> Cody said, looking around in surprise. Then a wide grin spread across his face. <I did it!> He ran around the battle area excitedly. <Yay!> He stopped in front of his trainer and wagged his tail. Now he felt tired.
Kiki smiled down at her puppy. "Good job, Cody. Why don't you take a rest?" She took out his Pokeball and recalled him. Then she smiled at Nate. "Thank you. It was fun. Your Pokemon are pretty strong as well. Good lucky with your training." She was sure their battle would help out both of them a lot in the future. They currently had their eyes on the same goal. She could not wait to see him in the Pokemon contest that month. She turned to leave the battle area. |

Nate smiled slightly at Kiki. "Thanks. Good luck to you too." He still had a lot to do before the contest that month. As far as challenging the first battle leader... Chelsea was probably the only one he had left to train. He wanted her to learn an electric move before he challenged Jenna. "I'll see you later." With that, he walked out of the battle area as well.
