One More Time [Kiki]

Nate entered the battle area right on time. He was meeting Kiki so that they could have a contest battle. He wanted to try out some new combinations he had come up with. The contest was coming up soon, and they could both use the practice. Also, once he was finished with this battle, he hoped his Pokemon would be in good enough shape to challenge the first battle leader. He had brought along Mr. Knight ti referee the battle. The Sinnoh student stood off to the side as he waited for his friend and competition to arrive. |

Kiki and Alice strolled into the battle area. They were planning to meet their friends Nate and Blaise to have a contest battle. Kiki thought it sounded like a fun idea for both of them to increase their skills. They had been working hard to come up with new combinations and perfect old ones. She looked around the area, smiling when her eyes rested on Nate. "He's over there," she said to the Chikorita. The two of the made their way over to the boy."Hey, Nate. Are you ready to battle?" She offered him a friendly smile. She had never done anything like this before, and she wondered how it would go. |

Nate turned when Kiki approached him. "Hello," he said with a smile. "I'm ready to go." he took out a Pokeball and released his Charmander. "It's time to practice, buddy." He glanced back at the girl. "Do you mind if we have three rounds? I have a couple of other Pokemon who could use the training." He had not worked with them as much, but the practice would still be good for them. These were the three Pokemon he wanted to use against the first battle leader. He wanted to make sure they were ready to go.
<Hello,> Blaise said to Alice. He held up his arm and waved his claw. He was excited to battle her. She seemed very friendly. He was sure they would both have a lot of fun.

"Hello, Blaise," Kiki said, smiling when the Charmander appeared. She wanted to travel to the lava cave soon to capture a fire Pokemon. She hoped to find a Cyndaquil to complete her Johto start collection. She nodded at Nate's question. "That sounds good to me." She had a couple other Pokemon who could use some more training as well. "Alright, let's get started. Alice, use Vine Whip!" It would not do much against the fire type, but it would be a good test of Blaise's speed and reaction time. Her Chikorita would be have to be quick to dodge the fire attacks that would be coming.
Alice smiled back at Blaise. <Hi.> She liked him too. He seemed really friendly. She backed away and took a battle stand across from the fire type. She was ready to battle! She reminded herself to make her moves look as pretty as possible. She wanted to impress anyone who watched. At her trainer's command, she shot out her vines, attempting to hit the Charmander with them.

Nate nodded. "Great." This was going to be fun. He glanced back at Mr. Knight. "We're ready to begin." When he turned back, his opponent had began to attack. He thought quickly and shouted out, "Dodge it and use Ember!" The fire attack would prove very effective against the grass type. He knew they would need more than that to win, though.
Blaise stood across from Kiki and prepared for battle. When he vines came towards him, he tried to jump in the air, but he was not high enough. The Vine Whip sent him falling onto his back. Luckily, it did not seem to hurt too much. He jumped back onto his feet and shot out balls of fire at the Chikorita. She could not keep him down for long!

Kiki nodded in approval when their attack hit its mark. It looked like they would have to use speed to overcome the type disadvantage. They could work with this. That Ember was going to be troublesome, though. "Run around and use Tackle!" Running both looked good and added to the power of a Tackle. She hoped it was something with which contest judges would be impressed. It was still something they had to perfect.
Alice anticipated the command before she heard it. She quickly darted to the let, missing the fire balls. She focused on gaining speed as she ran in a half-circle around the Charmander. At the last second, she turned sharply to the right, charging at her opponent. She hoped to hit him with a good Tackle. She wanted to win this!

Nate watched as Alice ran to dodge the Ember. It looked good, but the attack took awhile. Now was their chance to come back. "Blaise, step to the side and use Scratch!" It would not be as effective as Ember, but at least it would get them on the board. Besides, this was probably their best chance to use a move that required they be in close range. They could work on more fire attacks later.
Blaise grew frustrated when his ember missed. Now the Chikorita was coming for him! He calmed slightly at his trainer's voice. Right, he could do this. he waited until Alice was almost near him. Then he jumped to the right, turning as he did so and making his body perpendicular to the Chikorita's. Then he held out his claw to Scratch her as she ran by.

It appeared that Nate was one step ahead of her. She frowned slightly as she watched her Chikorita endure the Scratch attack. No matter. They were just going to have to come back stronger. Now that they were closer to the Charmander, she thought she would try out a combination they had been working hard on. "It's ok, Alice. Use Poison Powder and then Razor Leaf!" It had take awhile for them to get their aim right, but she thought they had a pretty good grip on it now.
Alice's eyes widened in surprise when the Charmander suddenly disappeared. She did not have the time to get out of the way of the Scratch. She slowed to a stop, wincing from the pain. Her trainer's order made her lighten up. She knew this combination, and she could not wait to show it off. She spun around to face Blaise. Then she released a cloud of powder in front of her. Before it could make its way to her opponent, she aimed her Razor Leaf at the cloud. The leaves struck the powder, making the air sparkle and glisten. Both attacks were also hurled at the Charmander at a faster rate.

Nate had to admit that Kiki's combination was impressive. The glittering Poison Powder was beautiful. It was also effective as an attack. He gritted his teeth when it appeared that his own Pokemon had been poisoned. That was definitely going to help Alice make up for her grass typing. Well, that meant it was time to focus on fire. "Hang in there, Blaise. Spin and use Ember." He hoped the combination would both look good and increase their accuracy.
Blaise smiled when his attack worked. But then he was hit by on onslaught of attack. The Razor Leaf harmed him and threw him back, and then he breathed in the Poison Powder. he coughed as he felt the poison enter his veins. This was not good. His legs were shaky as he stood up again. He could not let his trainer down! He started to spin as he let out his Ember. The fire flew around in a circle, hitting everything within a foot of its path.

Kiki gasped when Blaise spun while using Ember. That did look pretty cool. unfortunately, it also made it hard for Alice to dodge. That was bound to hurt. It was time to do some more damage themselves. "Alice, use Growl and Tackle!" The combination should be effective. They could work on making it pretty later.
Alice stared at the spinning Charmander in surprise. She cried out when she was hit by the Ember attack. She could tell it had done a lot of damage. She growled as she stood backup. She was going to get him for that! She ran towards him quickly, hoping to be fast enough to make it impossible for him to dodge. The battle was getting good.

Nate watched as Alice ran into Blaise. With the Growl, that was bound to be effective. He tried to think of a good comeback. "Let's use Smokescreen and Ember!" It was best to stick with the fire attack because it would be the most effective. He hoped the smokescreen would look good in combination.
Blaise was hit by the Chikorita, and he was knocked over. <Oof,> he said. He got up more slowly this time. He did not have much energy left, but he knew he had to continue on. He opened his mouth letting out a cloud of dark smoke. Then he shot out his Ember where he knew Alice stood. He hoped this would work.

Kiki did not like the smoke that filled the air. This was not good. A cry from Alice told her that she had gotten hit by the Ember. This was not good. The battle was almost over, but they had the edge because of the poison. It was time to finish this. "Ok, now use Razor Leaf!" It was time for do or die.
Alice looked around at the smoke nervously. She couldn't see a thing! She cried out when she was hit by fire balls. She felt very weak as she stood up. At least the smoke was disappearing, and she could see the Charmander straight ahead of her. She was glad she did not have to move much for her next attack, for she did not know if she could make it. She shot out sharp leaves at her opponent, hoping it would be enough to take her opponent down.

Blaise sighed in relief when his attack sounded like it had hit. Was he really going to lose to a grass type? Unfortunately, he did not have enough strength left to dodge the oncoming leaves. The attack sent him flying back, and the poison drained the rest of his strength. He lay on the grass, defeated.
"Blaise!" Nate exclaimed when his Pokemon fainted. He was surprised he had lost even though he had the type advantage. He guessed he had a lot to learn about Pokemon battles. He took out the Charmander's Pokeball and recalled him. Then he looked at Kiki. "Good job. You too, Alice. You fought well." He still had two more chances to prove his strength.

Blaise is unable to battle. Alice is the winner. She has gained three levels. Blaise has gained one level. Kiki has earned 45 points for Team Johto. |

Alice sighed in relief when she saw that Blaise had fainted. She almost could not believe she had beaten a fire type. She felt strong. She looked back at her trainer and gave her a tired smile. She hoped she had done well enough for her for a contest. It had been fun.
"Great job, Alice!" Kiki said, smiling back at her Pokemon. "You deserve a long rest." She took out her Pokeball and returned her. Then she looked at Nate. "Thanks. You fought well too. Blaise is strong." Now it was time for round two. She thought for a second about who to choose. Then she took out another Pokeball. "Time to battle, Chomper!"
The Totodile appeared in a flash of light. He blinked up at his trainer. <Battle? Ok.> He grinned at Nate. <Hello!> He remembered this trainer, and he liked him. He could not wait to find out who he would bring out to battle.
