Another Sand Attack? This was good strategy. It would be harder for Duke's Pokemon to get a hit in now. This was an interesting battle indeed. Perhaps it would come down to the line after all. "Hold on, Pancham. Use Tackle!" He did not know if it would work, but it was best to stay strong and not let their opponent see their weakness.
Pancham covered his eyes when the sand flew at him. He was unable to dodge the Peck attack. He could feel his strength waning, but this was no time to give up! He took in several deep breaths to prepare himself. he listened for the Farfetch'd because he could not see him well, and then, with a running leap, he jumped up for a Tackle.

"Fly upward!" Paul said as soon as Private had made contact with the Pancham, for he knew he would attack back right away. If the Farfetch'd got hit again, he knew the battle would be over. He would not give up. His eyes followed Private as he rose higher in the air, away from his opponent. Good. "Use Leer." That was necessary in order to get in as much damage as possible. If he lost this battle, he wanted to lose it having shown just how strong he and his Pokemon were. "Now, Poison Jab!" he said as soon as the Farfetch'd had given the other Pokemon a leer.
Private quickly flew higher when his trainer told him to. He remained unharmed from the Pancham, and he was proud he had been able to dodge it the way he had. On command, he sent the Pancham another sharp leer. Then, he flew back down at his opponent with a poison covered beak. He would be hit! He was determined to succeed this time.

Thorn followed Alice without a word. He couldn't wait until they could hang out and play! His little body shook in excitement. However, he did understand the need to remain quiet. His eyes brightened in excitement when Alice announced their arrival. <Yay!> he cheered, running forward. He looked at all of the plants. <Cool! Plants!> He walked up to one of them and pushed his nose against it.

It was time for do or die. They would only have one chance to get an attack in, and they needed to risk being defeated in order to win. "Wait until he is near, and then use Karate Chop!" Would the panda be poisoned? Maybe. The battle was almost over anyway. At this point,t hey had to do everything they could to win. It looked like Paul had the same idea.
Pancham was affected by the Leer. Still, he was able to obey his master and raised his arm. When the Farfetch'd was close enough, he jumped up in order to Karate Chop him. Whether he hit or not, he was struck by the bird's beak and was poisoned. He fell to the ground, feeling the last of his energy draining out of him. If his last attack did not work, he would be defeated. Private only had to have missed the Pancham's last attack in order to win.

Alice laughed when Thorn pressed his nose against a plant. <It feels good, right?> she said as she walked over to him with a smile. She loved being around nature. It made her feel so alive. She was glad she had a trainer who shared her interests. <Does your trainer ever take you on a walk?> It was important for trainers and Pokemon to bond with each other. She wondered how Paul got to know his Pokemon. Everyone had their own style.

Paul heard what the Pancham was going to do, but he was not sure if he could do anything to avoid it. "Dodge it!" he said as Private got closer to the Pancham. The duck Pokemon tried to maneuver out of the way, but he was too focused on aiming correctly with his beak, so he got hit. It appeared that the Pancham had been poisoned as well. However, it did not matter. He watched as his Pokemon fell to the ground.
Private heard his trainer, and it greatly concerned him. How was he supposed to do that and attack at the same time? He had to try, though. Doing his best to focus, he attempted to turn to the side, but he was also attacking as well. He ended up striking the Pancham and taking a hit as well. He let out a grunt as he was hit by the Karate Chop. He tried to remain on his feet, but it was too much so he collapsed to the ground.

Thorn nodded in agreement, his nose still touching the plant. At Alice's question, he pulled it away and looked at her. He blinked. <Well, no. Unless walking to class counts.> He frowned slightly. <I don't really do anything except train with him.> Was that bad? He did wish he could have some fun with him, but he wasn't really sure that was something trainers and Pokemon did together. He didn't know what other trainers did; he only knew Paul and what they did together.

A few seconds later, the poison took effect, and Pancham fell to the ground, fainted.
Duke observed the scene for a minute before speaking. "Your Pokemon fainted first. I win." He took out a Pokeball. "Pancham, return." Then he returned his gaze to Paul. "I am highly impressed with your battling skills. I believe you can become a strong trainer with enough work and, support..." He looked at Kiki out of the corner of his eye. This would not do. He was going to have to speak as generally as possible. He walked closer to the other trainer so that he would not have to speak as loudly. "I have an offer that will help you become stronger, but I cannot talk about it here. Do you know of the waterfall beyond the forest?"
Private is unable to battle. Pancham is the winner, and victory goes to Duke. Private did cause Pancham to faint, so he has gained three levels. He now can know Brave Bird and/or Ariel Ace. Paul has earned 20 points for Team Sinnoh.

The conclusion of this battle reminded Paul of his battle with Nate. The same thing pretty much happened. Private had been there too. He had poisoned Nate's Zigzagoon, but he had fainted at nearly the same time as him. That battle had been called as a draw. This one, a loss to him. Whether it was a loss or tie did not matter to him. However, a definite loss was better than a tie. He was satisfied for now, though, that he had been able to defeat the trainer's Pancham, even if it had fainted after his own Pokemon.
He returned Private to his Pokeball without a word and looked up at trainer. His words piqued his interest. Stronger? Whatever this guy was talking about, he wanted to know more about it. He nodded at his question. "Yes." After coming to the school, he had learned what he could about the surrounding area. He remembered a waterfall.
OOC: I was so confused a as to why you said "and/or" but now I get it. XD You can only have 8 attacks.

Kiki was impressed by the battle on both sides. Both Pokemon and trainers fought hard. Even though his Pokemon was at a disadvantage, Paul still almost won. She could not make out the words Duke spoke to him, but she became suspicious by the activity. What was he saying that he did not want her to know? She still had a bad feeling about him, though she had to admit that he seemed right up Paul's ally. She wanted to disapprove of that, but if they got along, at least he would have a friend. It was a start, right?
No? That did not sound good. Trainers were supposed to take care of their Pokemon, which meant more than just training with them. They had emotional and psychological needs as well. She did not know what the effects of neglect were, but she knew they could not be good. <I don't think that's good... for either of you. Pokemon and trainers become stronger if they're close and know each other. They're supposed to be friends, and friends do more than just train.> Perhaps Paul still did not understand what it meant to be a good trainer. Maybe he needed some help.

Duke nodded once. "Good. Meet me near the falls at two in the afternoon on Saturday." He glanced at Kiki for a second and then looked back at Paul. "Thank you for our battle. I did enjoy it. I hope to see you then." Without another word, he turned and headed back into the forest. He did not doubt the trainer would show up. He could see it in his eyes that they had the same goal in mind. This was going to be a good one.

Paul nodded at what the trainer said. He would be there. He had enjoyed the battle as well. It had been tough, and it had taught him a lot of things that he would remember the next time he trained. It had also made him respect the trainer, for he could see the strength he had. That was why he had to go. He wanted that too, and he felt that this was the way to do it. When the trainer left, he glanced over at Kiki. She was still there. He didn't think much of it and began to turn away to head out of the forest. After two battles, it was time for a break. Whenever he could, he wanted to take out that Axew and work on training.
Thorn looked down at his little feet as he shifted them. He knew his trainer wanted to get stronger. Was that really the way to do it? Because Paul didn't seem to think so or even know anything about that. <What can I do about it? He's still learning. Maybe he will figure it out from class.> He hoped he would. He really wanted to be friends with his trainer, but he wanted him to like him too. If he tried to be his friend when he didn't want him to, then he would get upset at him.

It looked like Paul wanted to leave. She supposed it was time for her to head out as well. She had been here for far too long. She turned to tell Alice that she was laving, but there was one problem: Alice was nowhere to be seen. Hadn't she been standing there with Thorn? Where had the two gotten off to? She hoped they had not gone far. Come to think of it, even if Thorn was there, why was Paul walking off without him? "Hey, Paul!" she called to stop him. "Aren't you forgetting Thorn?" She frowned as she looked around the area again. "I think he and Alice wandered off somewhere. I don't see either of them around." She should have kept a better watch on them. She really did not want to have to hunt the Chikorita down.
Alice tried to think of a solution. Yes, class would probably help. Paul had not been a trainer for that long. If he learned what he was doing was wrong, he would change it, right? Somehow, the problem seemed to go deeper than just knowledge. Paul did not even have human friends, so why would he be friends with his Pokemon or let them have friends? Perhaps he did not understand how important they were. <It may help if he has a friend himself. Than he may want to be friends with his Pokemon as well.> That was why they were trying to get their trainers to get along, right? They should keep up with that and see where it led.

Paul stopped when Kiki called his name. Without turning around, he took out Thorn's pokeball and opened it. He frowned. It was empty. He had thought he had put him back in his pokeball. When he had finished his battle with the Axew, of course he would have done that. But there was that trainer... He had come in just after that; he must have distracted him. Paul returned the Pokeball and turned around to face Kiki. He did not doubt the two grass types had run off together.
"You weren't watching them?" he accused her. His hand moved to take out Private's Pokeball but then stopped, remembering he had just been through a tough battle. Of course Thorn decided to disappear on him the day he battled with his only flying type. Not waiting for Kiki to respond, he walked forward, planning on heading in the direction behind her. The two had been near her, so they probably would have moved in a direction close to there.
Thorn listened to Alice, and he grew excited when she finished. <Yeah! That sounds like a good idea. If we can get him and Kiki to be friends, then we could accomplish two things at once!> He smiled, satisfied with that plan. How they would do that, he had no idea. They would see how this first plan of action went first. He wondered if their trainers had noticed their absence yet. Also, did Paul miss him or worry?

Kiki found herself irked that Paul was accusing her of letting their Pokemon escape. This was so not her fault. She trusted Alice, and she had not seen any reason to keep an authoritarian grasp on her. Besides, it was Paul who had forgotten to return Thorn to his Pokeball and had almost walked off without him. Who was the bad trainer here? "Maybe they wouldn't need to run away if you would actually let them be together," she retorted. She rolled her eyes when he just started to walk off. No strategy or plan?
Then she got an idea. She did not have a flying type to search for the Pokemon, but she did have the next best thing. "Help us out, Cody." She released the Lillipup, and he stood before her. The dog Pokemon had a great sense of smell, and perhaps he would be able pick up on a trail. She smiled down at the puppy. "Alice has run off. Can you try to find her scent?"
Cody smiled and wagged his tail. <Ok.> He turned and noticed Paul. Who was that guy? Right, he had a job to do. He sniffed the area until he caught a whiff of a familiar scent. <This way!> He turned to the right of Paul and bounded into the tall grass.
Alice tried to think back to the psychology class they had taken together the previous semester. The first unit had been particular interesting. If Pokemon battles bonded Pokemon to their trainers, could something similar work with humans? <Remember what the psychology teacher said about danger producing hormones that can bond Pokemon and trainers? Maybe we should lead our trainers into some sort of mild danger - nothing that we or they couldn't handle - and if they worked together to solve the problem, they might like each other.> The plan needed some smoothing out, but she thought it was a good place to start.

Paul frowned at Kiki's words. "They see each other enough in class," he retorted. More than once, even if he had not taken Thorn out of his Pokeball he always found some way to come out and find Alice in class. He had grown tired of always demanding him to stop doing that. When the Lillipup appeared, Paul stopped and turned to look at him. He was probably the next best thing to a flying type and he wanted to find Thorn as fast as possible, so he followed him. If Thorn wanted to be with Alice, this was not the way to do it. This just harmed his chance even more. He hoped he knew that.
Thorn liked her idea. It sounded great! They just needed to figure out what kind of danger they should lead their trainers to. Hmm... What kind of danger was there? <Yeah, that sounds good. Are there any dangerous places around here? What about finding some scary Pokemon? The haunted house? I heard that's pretty scary and only brave souls dare to venture there.> He looked thoughtful. Planning sure was hard, but he knew it would be worth it in the end. They would eventually succeed, right?

"Not with your approval," Kiki mumble din response to Paul's comment. She walked beside him as they followed Cody into the grass. She wondered if the two grass types had run off on purpose in order to be together. That did not sound like Alice, and she wondered if there was something else to it. She glanced at Paul. Surely he knew that Pokemon needed friends to meet their emotional needs, and the same was true of humans. They had taken Pokemon Psychology together. She wondered if he talked to anyone outside of battling. He obviously did not believe in romance, but that did not mean he had to shun all types of relationships. "Do you actually do anything with another living being besides battle and go to class?" His lifestyle could not be healthy. Did he want to die young?
Alice tried to think of a good situation. They did not want to get into any danger that was too terrible. <The haunted house might be good,> she said. <Also the lava cave. Kiki wants to go there soon to catch a fire Pokemon.> Was there anything they could do to work up to those two, though? Then she remembered something. <There's a Beedrill nest near where Kiki and I collect herbs. It might help if she and Paul have to fight them.> And Thorn and the Chikorita could be there to battle in case things got out of hand.
