Kiki decided it was time to prepare for her battle against the second battle leader. She had not yet decided which three Pokemon she would be using, though she did have some sort of an idea. Before training those specific Pokemon, she wanted to test her general battling skills in a battle against one of her fellow students. This was why she found herself in the battle area of the school one bright, sunny morning. She noticed Mr. Winston watching a battle that was almost over. She caught his attention, and he nodded at her. Once she found an opponent, she would be free to go. She looked around the area to see if she could spot any challengers. |

After many adventures, including tornado watching, it as time for Gary to prepare for his battle against the first battle leader. This had been a long time coming. He now had enough strong Pokemon to take on Jenna. After he trained a bit more, he would challenge her. Right now, he would settle for challenging a classmate. Looking around the battle area, he recognized one student without a partner. "Hey, Kiki," he said with a grin as he stepped towards her. "Are you up for a battle?" He assumed that was why she was there. He was interested to know what type of style she used. |

Kiki grinned when Gary approached her. He was in some of her classes, and he was the one she had given her Pokeblock to. It was good to see him again. It would be interesting to see how he fared in a battle. "You bet! How does three on three sound?" Before she could do anything else, the ground started to shake. Her eyes widened as she tried to grab onto something. A few seconds later, the ground stood still again. "Whoa..." Had that been a large Pokemon... or an earthquake? |

Gary almost fell over when the ground began to shake. What in the world was going on? Once it subsided, he was able to think rationally. "Wow, are you ok? I think that was an earthquake." It was pretty cool, actually. He had survived another threat to nature! Grinning, he took out a Pokeball. "That sounds good to me. I'll start off with Jolly!" he tossed the Pokeball in the air, causing a Darumaka to appear in front of him. He had not used the fire type yet, so he wanted to give him some experience in battle.

"I'm fine," Kiki said. So, it had been an earthquake. Interesting. She did not have time to think about it now, though. She examined the Darumaka before her for a moment. He looked to be low level, so she would use a Pokemon that matched that. "Haley, let's go!" She tossed out a Pokeball, causing a Delibird to appear. Though ice types were weak against fire types, she had just learned a powerful move that might allow them to win. "Use Present!"
Haley was nervous as she stared at her opponent. He was going to be hard to beat. She had to try, though! She flapped her wings to allow her to fly over tot he Darumaka. When she was near him, she pulled a present out of her sack and tossed it at him. It was anyone's guess if it would deal damage or not.

A Delibird, huh? This was going to be fun. Delibird only knew one attack naturally, which was random and unpredictable. Gary was looking forward to the challenge. Luckily, the first Present attack did not seem to do much damage. "Jolly, use Tackle!"
Jolly found the Delibird to be a strange Pokemon. Why was she giving him a present? Was it his birthday? His eyes widened when the present exploded in his face. That was not very nice. Angry, he ran towards her, jumping at the last second so he could Tackle her in the air. <I'm returning your gift!>

Kiki was glad that Present was able to deal at least a little bit of damage. "Haley, dodge!" It was good that her Delibird could fly above attacks like Tackle. If the Darumaka did not know any fire attacks, they could be in the clear. "Use Present again!" She wanted to wait before revealing her special attack.
<That's not nice,> Haley said in response to Jolly's statement. She flapped her wings, managing to get out of range of the Tackle. She was feeling a bit better about battling now. She flew close to her opponent again so that she could throw another present at him. <Take that!>

The battle was not going as Gary suspected. he had to find a way to attack the Delibird effectively before she could get away. It was also a problem that it was hard to dodge present. Maybe luck would eventually be on their side and Jolly would be healed instead of harmed. "Use Tackle right after you get hit!" he ordered. It was at least worth a shot.
Jolly did not like this little birdy. How was he supposed to hit her? He started to run away when she came after him again. Unfortunately, he was unable to dodge her present attack, and this one hurt more than the last. He had turned around just before he was hit. Right after, he leapt at the Delibird, hoping to hit her before she could get away.

Kiki watched as the Darumaka was able to get an attack in this time. "It's alright," she said encouragingly to her little bird. "Present, again!" She would test her luck once more. Next turn, she would switch it up with a new move.
After sending her present, Haley was hit by a red ball. She let out a small squeak as she fell to the ground. Taking a deep breath, she got back up, knowing she had to continue to fight. The Darumaka was still close to her, so she did not bother to fly to him. Instead, she threw a present at him from where she stood.

Gary braced himself for another Present attack. This was getting a bit boring. He was surprised when the attack seemed to help Jolly instead of hurt him. He smirked. "It looks like that one backfired. Jolly, use Rollout!" Since the Delibird was no longer flying, it would be much easier to hit her with a ground attack.
Jolly tensed when another Present was thrown at him. This time, however, instead of pain, he felt relief. <Hey, that was a good present!> he said with a grin. He was almost sorry he could not return the favor. He rolled himself into a ball and moved towards Haley to strike her.

Kiki gritted her teeth when she aw that Present had healed their opponent. The attack had backfired on them. Well, it was time to try something else. "Don't worry, Haley. Use Blizzard!" Though it was an ice attack, it would still do considerable damage to the Darumaka.
Haley sighed in dismay at the result of her attack. That was no good. <It was just a malfunction,> she said nervously. She was not able to fly away before the rolling red ball hit her. She let out a small shriek as she skid across the ground. She took a deep breath and got back onto her feet. Then she whipped up a powerful blizzard and threw it at the Darumaka.

Gary nodded in satisfaction when Rollout worked. If they could keep hitting the Delibird, the stength of the attack would rise each time. His eyebrows lifted in surprise when Kiki called out Blizzard. Where had they learned that? No matter. It was time to attack back. "Rollout, again!"
Jolly grinned happily as I jumped up after hitting the Delibird. That had worked beautifully! He was momentarily caught off guard by the blizzard that came his way. He could see no way to dodge it, and she shivered as it hit him. Afterwards, he took a deep breath and rolled into a ball again, spinning forward to strike his opponent.

Kiki was glad Blizzard caught their opponents by surprise. Unfortunately, their Rollout was successful again. She thought she would try going back to Present for now. It was always a good idea to switch up attacks. "Haley, use Present!" The baby was slow, which was to be expected. With training, she would become faster.
Haley smiled as she watched her Blizzard hit the Darumaka. That was fun! However, she was too distracted by her success to remember to fly into the air. Her eyes widened as she was rolled over by her opponent again. This one hurt more than the last. <Hey!> she complained. It was time to give him a present. She moved towards him and through one at him.

So, it was back to present, huh? This time, the attack dealt out a little bit of damage. "You're alright, Jolly," said Gary. "Use ROllout again!" The Delibird's attacks were undodgeable, so the best strategy would be to keep up with Rollout, which would be more effective each turn.
Jolly just smiled at the Delibird when she complained. He was paying her back from before! Battlign was actually kind of fun. His eyes widened when another Present came his way. He was able to endure it and quickly shake it off. He had to be fast if he was going to hit the flying type, so he immediately curled into a ball and spun forward.

Rollout was a success again. "Haley, you have to get into the air!" If this kept up, she would soon run out of energy. "Use Blizzard!" She decided the best strategy would be to use a move that would surely deal damage in between Present attacks, which were less predictable.
Haley smiled slightly when she saw her attack had worked this time. Then she was hit by another Rollout. She was starting to get dizzy from the Darumaka's attacks. She knew she should try to dodge, but she was having a bit of trouble with that. She managed to get a little bit into the air before sending a blizzard at her opponent.
